So is it possible to switch to not using embedded libraries currently? And if so, does that mean I need to manually go through all my ace mods and delete the embedded libraries they have?

Just go to your /Addons/ folder and do a search for "lib". Windows should bring back a nice long list of folders that are embedded in to your Ace mods that you downloaded with externals. Be warned that doing this for the first time will require a lot of trial and error to figure out which libraries you're missing. I probably have as many libraries as actual mods installed at this point, and they aren't organized very well (no lib_XXX) format for the folder name, for instance, so at a glance it's hard to know what to keep and what to throw when you're deleting mods you don't use any more. I have no doubt there's at least a few libraries I have that go unused.

Or just use SVN to update your mods
I am expieriencing the same issues with freeze up when relogging in raids and im not using any embedded libraries.
PitBull causes no Problems, Ag_UF didnt cause any, its just Grid for me.

I'm pretty confident that getting the !!!standalonelibraries from WAU and then selecting all your addons and reinstalling them without externals (there's a menu option for this) should do it.
But I'd wait for confirmation from someone who actually tried it

I did this the other day using WAU, it worked flawlessly. I wouldn't have liked to have done it manually though.

Does this mean you don't have to manually delete the libraries installed with each addon (assuming you previously did the "with" externals option)? WAU didn't delete anything when I tried this, I just added the !!!StandaloneLibraries and nothing else changed...
This bug just started happening to me, where If i zone while in a large raid (say, joining AV) it just freezes after I zone. I see the first few units, the game field, then it locks for a couple minutes and I get kicked out. Usually I kill the WoW process and try to get in again, but that doesn't help.
This is new to me.... I have never had any UI related lag issues like this.
Though with so many Ace mods I should probably go this route anyhow.

Iirc, you install the standalone libs and then use the 'reinstall all addons' option (since WAU should switch default behaviour to 'no externals' once you have standalonelibs).
edit: not that is approach is going to fix that bug for you, I still sometimes suffer from it. (and yes, its usually grid responsible for this in my case)

Yeah, after discussing this issue with ckk, he says it's most likely a problem with the Blizzard API messing up with your addons, and is actually a bug on their side of things.
Hopefully Blizzard should fix it when the next mini patch comes out.

Yes - just installing !!!StandaloneLibraries won't do anything to your existing addons. As I understand it, it's using the Reinstall All Addons command when you have !!!StandaloneLibraries installed that should trigger WAU to install the "no-ext" versions instead.

Hm, yesterday I was hit with the Enter World Lag as well.
Was doing 2 AVs, and when I entered the third, my WoW just froze and even today it wouldn't work.
I had to disable several addons to be able to join AV again, loggin in to the city was fine, but couldn't get AV to work.
Interestingly, AGUF and Bartender3 weren't causing this (or not alone). Disabling BigWigs, KTM, Omen, Cartographer, FuUsage and Protactor did it though. Haven't figured out exactly which of these, or which combination.

Out of curiosity, what kind of memory usage threshold do people tend to use to decide whether a MOD is using too much? How much overall usage is too much or is that even an issue?
|
Have you ever tried simply turning off the TV, sitting down with your children, and hitting them?

You can just move them into an empty group rather then kicking them. It's been working for us.

I've pin pointed this to cartographer for my setup. With Pitbull, bartender3, bigwigs, and various other ace addons I don't run into any "enter world" lag. However with Cartographer on, it takes significantly longer than usual. I disable Cartographer when raiding due to the "enter world" soft freezes I get from time to time. I've also verified that the group move or kick suggestions does work as previous posters have noted.

I've been able to determine Omen/Threat as the originator, or rather as the one causing the problem with my overall setup. I was in a raid for Kazzak, logged out and enabled BigWigs, KTM and Omen again. When I tryed to log back in, I had another hang until I disabled Omen. After that, it was running fine again (with Cartographer etc).
But that really bugs me, because it actually *was* working for 2 AV games with Omen enabled until suddenly this behahviour occured.

Very good info in this thread, i was also getting the Freezing whenever i load into an AV/raid in combat. the only way i could get in was diabling all my mods.
I downloaded !standalonelibarys and did reinstall all addons, so far it seems good, although i uninstalled Grid at the same time, so that could have been the cause, but AV here i come!

Damn...I was gonna make a "They call it Cu Numba Tu!" comment but now I can't. I do have a suggestion though that may very well provide a complete and total fix without changing or lessening the number of addons. It is easy too.
Try increasing the UI memory allotment. Maybe from 50 megs to 100. I dunno worth a shot and could very well do it.

They removed the UI memory allotment in 2.1? when they introduced incremental garbage collection.
I run Omen, Pitbull, Grid, Bigwigs, Ora2 and 100 other addons and i have no problems logging in while in a raid.
If you run 10+ ace addons you should run standalone libs. I personally use JWowUpdater to update my ace mods. It has an option that goes through each addons .toc file and comments out files that don't exist. This reduced my loading time considerably.

if you run a lot of Ace mods, it's better to use externals or without?

Say you have three addons that all use the same library and you run with them embedded. Every time wow loads it will try and load that library three times. If your running external standalone libraries then it will only be loaded once.
If you do decide to run external standalone libraries then you will still have lines like this in your .toc files:
libs\AceLibrary\AceLibrary.lua
libs\AceEvent-2.0\AceEvent-2.0.lua
libs\AceAddon-2.0\AceAddon-2.0.lua
etc
These lines will still waste loading time as wow attempts to see if they exist. JWowUpdater has an option that will go through each addons .toc file and comment out all references to libraries if you run external standalone. I've ran standalone for a long time, and as soon as i ran that option i noticed a ~5 second drop in load time.

Note that only applies to your zoning in from the character selection screen, it wont effect the time for going between zones.

Every time i try and use externals I wind up getting various lua/xml errors. What i'm doing is download !!!StandaloneLibaries and then using WowAceUpdater to reinstall all addons from scratch. Anyone else ever have this problem?

The reason you may get this in some AVs and not others is because it depends on how many people are already in the raid. If you get in right as it pops you shouldn't have a problem. I'm having the same problem too but if I wait long enough with my WoW locked up it eventually unlocks and works.
