Non-Ace2 mods: Two through King

(okay, the subtitle is lame. shoot me.)

Ever since the Ace2 "revolution" started, this forum has been pretty much monopolized by Ace2 mods, and UIs dominated with them. Picking out these (and finding them, thanks to the WowAceUpdater and the Ace SVN) is much more centralized and standardized than finding non-Ace2 mods. This has, in my experience, made us miss many cool mods that are cursed just by not being available on the Ace SVN.

So without further ado, I would like this thread to be about neat and useful mods you have found that are NOT Ace2-based. If the functionality is similar to a popular (or unpopular) Ace2 mod, that's fine; this isn't a competition. If these mods are very well-known already, it would be great to see cool stuff you have done with them.

This thread is not about Ace2's supposed performance advantages - that topic only brings flames and has been beaten to death.

So, to kick things off:

Advanced Trade Skill Window
This is a tradeskill mod (duh) that does lots of very useful things. First (and most apparent) is it doubles the size of the window, making browsing through your crafts much easier. It has a lot of nice sorting options, including a user-made list you can add, remove, and rearrange to/from.
It has a full queuing system, which when paired with the fact that it recognizes submats (if you have 25 Knothide Leather Scraps, for example, you can make one Heavy Knothide Leather directly and it'll queue the right stuff). The queuing system will also integrate itself with vendors (autobuying however many things you need with a confirmation) and the auction house (telling you what mat's you don't have). It can also see in your bank, and on alts.
http://wow-en.curse-gaming.com/downloads/details/2389/

UberQuest
This is another "make this window bigger, movable, and a lot more powerful" mod. This quest mod doubles the size of the quest window, just like ATSW, so you can actually see more than 5 quests at a time. It also replaces the quest tracker, removing the low quest limit (6?) of the default, and allowing you to move it from the crappy default location of under the minimap. The tracker is also scalable and movable, allows you to set auto-addition of new quests and auto-fading of completed objectives and quests.

I haven't found any bag mod that I like as much as this one. It simply allows me to never have worry about organizing my bags in my inventory or bank, new items should they require some sort of special set up take a few seconds and I'll now always know where to look for said item.

If you ever get annoyed with sorting your bags/bank, check this out

edit: Apparently, Baggins (Ace2) does the same thing, ^_^

Please let me know if this isn't quite what you are looking for in this thread. Some of these are very common mods.

LaVendetta Deadly Boss Mods - Another Boss Mod Suite. Different Strokes for different folks. Can someone answer this, though: Is DBM 'compatible' with BigWigs et al.? Does it make sense for everyone to use a specific boss mods, or just 'a well-known boss mod'?
http://www-en.curse-gaming.com/downloads/details/4940/

X-Perl Unit Frames - I just really haven't found unit frames that I'm more comfortable with. I made custom frames in old Wow with Discord, and X-Perl displays the information in a very similar fasion, as well as doing some things that I didn't think to do myself. It is modular so I am free to remove things like TS monitor and raid frames.
http://www-en.curse-gaming.com/downloads/details/3416/

Cirk's ChatManager - Easy access to chat channel management, coloratin, ordering, /chatwho, etc. It just makes life easier.
http://www.wowinterface.com/download...fo.php?id=4535

Satrina Buff Frames (2) - It's a fairly simple buff icon display addon. It looks similar to the default UI, but has enough additional options to make something completely different.
http://www.wowinterface.com/download...fo.php?id=6884

MinimapButtonBag - It's incredibly easy to use and it lets you collect multiple minimap buttons onto one collapsible button.
http://www.wowinterface.com/download...fo.php?id=6764

BuyEmAll - This adds options to the Shift+click vendor menu.
http://www.wowinterface.com/download...fo.php?id=5217

See you, auntie.

Let's you customize which (de)buffs are shown on your target, so that you don't get overwhelmed by the 40 buff limit.
Very useful for raid leaders, but basically for every class that depends on certain debuffs (Sunder Armor, Faerie Fire, Curses, etc).

Please feel free to nuke this post, but just to note it: Baggins (Ace2) does the same as EngBags (maybe even more setup options).

I think it will be hard to find many Non-Ace addons that have any real purpose as most of the great Non-Ace addons have been ported to Ace in the last months.

The only thing that comes to my mind is GEM aka GuildEventManager (-> http://wow-en.curse-gaming.com/downloads/details/1147/ )
A tool we use to manage any raiding stuff, but I guess there's a bigger, better (and less buggier) Ace2 alternative out too, hm....

Yeah that's fine... this thread is not saying "Ace2 mods suck, don't use them", it's saying "I dont like the fact that i haven't used anything but WoWAceUpdater to find new mods in four months, I've got to be missing something".

For me

CT_RaidTracker (modded)
Self explaining I think - tried out nRaidTracker a few times now but it doesn't seem to do what i would like to do and isn't giving certain options I want. (although the RaidTracker is a pain in the ass aswell in certain situations [somehow missing new raid for every boss option and an attendency tracker for the whole raid])

EDIT : btw what sucks about ace2 is that there no way to see wether there are new mods (not new revisions) available.

StatusWindow
A very handy mod I've used for at least 5 or 6 months. It's not needed, and if I lost it I wouldn't be crushed, but it definitely makes keeping track of tedious factors much more accessible. There hasn't been an official release for 2.0 (yet- Satrina is working on it), but there is a patch to make it compatible (which is what I linked).

Personally I prefer keeping notes over using CT_RaidTracker if I had to choose, but that's heavily dependent on your DKP system I assume, ours is simple enough that with some kind note taking mod you can easily record an entire night's worth of raids.

It's a bit more work to put into the EQDKP page we have though, but that's still not really an issue if you'd previously been maintaining a spreadsheet for approximately 1 year. :p

On that note (Pun intended):

TinyPad is a nice simple in-game notepad which nevertheless sports a lot of functions. What I like most about it is that it literally is tiny; most such mods try to make use of the 'quest' style frame including the same large letters, while this one has it's own little window for it, which makes it very convenient to have open to compare to things going on. It's my secret to doing the Ogri'la Simon Says game with ease.

Heh, just making a note end users shouldn't give a damn. Ace2 is about making it easier for the developer not really performance (ideally of course the libraries are more optimized than what you might want to do).

Anyways my favorite non Ace addon is vBagnon.

vBagnon
Really great bag addon though unfortunately the developer went back to just working on Bagnon which doesn't have any of the awesome filtering of vBagnon and the filtering in vBagnon is what makes it so great you just click a button or highlight to only show those items etc. As well its a one bag addon and allows you to see your bank from far away (have to type in /vbagnon bank though).

I need to do something useless.

I use a few of the Fizzwidget mods. AdSpace and TrackMenu are simple and they work.

I like Ace mods, but it's somewhat silly to say the end users shouldn't give a damn; at the very least, saying something is an Ace mod gives me a strong idea about the textures that'll be available for bars and the way configuration will work.

I wish someone would take over Discord (especially the action bars) or that Lozareth would release a new version. The Discord official forums are a pit of despair.

Also there's a nice addon called BGSwitch that cleverly changes your graphics settings to allow you to AFK during uninteresting activities. These include flying (not on your own mount) and idling for a BG (hence the name.)

While you're in BGSwitch mode the graphics are set to fullsize window mode, allowing you to have other windows open in front of WOW in case you want to watch it out of the corner of your eye. When in normal mode you're in regular fullscreen non-window mode. The effect of this is that when your battleground pops or you receive a whisper, WOW is brought to the front. You can configure these settings to some extent.

RABuffs
I love this mod for buffing the raid. I know there's other mods, some ace (like XRaidStatus) that do something similar, but I don't like the interfaces of any as much as I like RABuffs. It's one of the few non-Ace mods I use.

Blah I'm sorry I do mean BGSwitch. BGAssist is broken as you say. I'll edit my post.

Also I just went to the CastParty page at sourceforge and it looks like 5.0beta is available now. I remember when Castparty made healing a completely different game back in molten core days and I'm interested to see what they've done with it. I gave up on it around 3.4 but they don't seem to have given up.

MonkeyQuest
http://www.toctastic.net/2001/03/downloads.html

I've been using this since forever, and I can't quest without it! There's a version 3 on the horizon, but version 2 is awesome in it's simplicity. I don't care much for MonkeyQuestlog, but the basic quest tracking list thing is simply wonderful.

Auctioneer
http://www.auctioneeraddon.com/

No introduction required, I think. But you should probably only enable this on your bank/AH character, since it's an inevitable memory hog. The enhanced tooltips are nice for all your characters though.

Morganti's Buffbars
http://wow-en.curse-gaming.com/downloads/details/3847/

A nicely configurable buffbar addon, capable of displaying basic buff icons or buff bars (bars that shorten as time runs out a la elkbuffbars are coming Soon (TM)).

qUserKey
http://wow-en.curse-gaming.com/downloads/details/4857/

Allows you to bind keys to macros, spells and inventory items. It's a bit of a resource hog (no idea why), but I've never found another easier way to do this... but unless someone has an alternative (or some hidden way to do it in the default UI with slash commands or something), I'll be using this.

There's quite a few similar Ace2 addons but nothing like JIM's Cooldown Pulse. This addon "pulses" an icon of your skill or talent coming off a cooldown on your screen. Very helpful both for PVE and PVP (arena) to let you know your skill is available. No need to track the cooldown numbers any more.

You can put a macro/item on a hot bar and assign that key a binding through the Key Bindings menu.

You can manually edit your WoWDir\WTF\ACCOUNT\YOURACCOUNT\SERVER\Character\bindings-cache.wtf file if you really want to. The syntax for a keybind is more or less:

bind <key> [type] <name>

Valid values for type are spell, macro, item, or nothing (if you're binding an action id), but binding an action ID is easy enough to do with the default UI.

A few examples:
bind 3 MACRO FHTRINKET
bind 4 SPELL Prayer of Mending
bind F2 ITEM Horn of the Black War Wolf
bind CTRL-SHIFT-2 SPELL Power Word: Fortitude
(I don't actually press CTRL-SHIFT-2, that's my G2 key)

Alternately, there's a good chance you can simply use qUserKey to bind the keys, and then once you get them the way you like them, disable the mod. I know that's true of BindPad, which basically does the same thing.
