Nameplates at range?

Does anyone know of an addon that allows you to see the nameplates for mobs (v-toggled health bars) at range? I am more and more frequently finding myself as main assist, and as a hunter, I don't want to be close enough to mobs to see them as they are by default. I have seen a few addons that can change what is displayed on nameplates, but none have made mention of changing the visibility range. If there is some option or setting out there that I am just missing, I apologize, but I have not found it yet.

Try Aloft. It may or may not have the range function you are looking for.

Aloft is currently the only (and very cool) mod that deals with name plates I think... I've used it for some time and I don't remember ever seeing a range option on it.

There is definitely a variable in the game somewhere that turns off plates for distant mobs. Where it is, and how to change it, I can't say.

Aloft came after Nameplates Config actually, but doesn't really matter.

Nameplates are handled in C code meaning we can't modiy the distance they show up at, Blizzard would have to provide something in order for it to be done and so far all we've been given is the ability to toggle whats shown.

Alas. Thank you for the information.

Before this thread dies completely, is there any option in Aloft to show enemy cast bars below the nameplate when you are not targeting the person in question? It seems they only show up if you are targeting the person.

Also, if there isn't... there is some way that it's possible, because I've been told XPerl can. Is this a quick fix (for you LUA-savvy folks) or does it require long coding?

The way UF addons handle that is to get information from a person in your group/raid targetting that mob. Aloft could potentially read casting information in the same way, though I don't know how to do it myself.

Again, casting bar is controlled by the C code meaning we can only manipulate it. Technically we could plug in something like NECB and show a casting bar using the times from that, but it would be inaccurate for same named mobs and a huge hassle in generla.

Ah, I figured it was something gimmicky, otherwise I don't see how Aloft's writers could have overlooked it. Thanks.
