Hehe, alright the competition is good but a lot of people need help understanding why they are sucking on the damage meters and thats what SWS & DamageMeters don't tell you. I've been raiding from Casual guilds to "Avg" Raiding Guilds to Hardcore Raiding Guilds and there is a large difference in the type of player some people its fine to just say you are 10th on the list improve or we are gkicking you but thats not an option for your Average/Casual raiding guilds (and oftentimes they are RL friends).

What I'm looking for is analysis techniques to try to tell you where people can improve and how can you tell them to improve. Its nice and all saying you are 15th and go improve but if you are 30 years old and only play WoW on your evenings on offtime with little time/interest to goto EJ forums or wherever for the theories it would help to get ingame information from people who know and can tell you how to improve (eventually I like to figure out a good way to show a player's cycle or do they just do moves randomly etc).

Another example when I was trying to figure out tanking gear etc and see how my improvements actually turned out SW Stats was worthless so I went to Recap and modified the hell out of it to give me more relevant data so we can see in reality how Druid & Warriors compared in tanking (theory is nice but sometimes you want hard data). At the moment btw Recount is garbage as well for this but working on fixing that :-p

Edit: Third example you have no idea how well DOTs are being used by Warlocks in SW Stats besides you can see the damage but I felt this personally wasn't good enough so looked for another metric that can tell you that.

If you only care about epeen comparison then the extra features of Recount are pointless. Now if you actually care about how to improve yours and other people's DPS then Recount I hope will be useful.

I need to do something useless.

Oh I should say most of this comes from the viewpoint of healers and a lot of healers can tell you they know how to game the meters to be the number 1 healer on the healing meters but oftentimes you aren't actually healing to your best under those circumstances for saving heals.

I need to do something useless.

Strange, in that case it seems to be trying to display data for an imaginary person (not possible as far as I can figure out but must be some way). So if someone can figure out how to replicate this bug would be of great help.
I have got this error when i'm entering game since this morning after an update of Recount.
I have made nothing special before that

Exactly, some ppl just couldn't be arsed to learn by themselves or change with their manor of playing the class as they're being developed by Blizzard so they need a nudge, that's where WWS and Recap come in. People who know how the class works can give advice on how to improve performance.

In our guild the success rate of this seems a bit poor, since ppl are quite hard headed and take advice as criticism or flame. Some ppl just have to learn to adjust or they might hold the whole guild back (not that one player really matters in most encounters), but when there are several, you're in trouble.

and ps. 30 is a poor example (i'm 30)

I plan on giving this mod a shot this evening as it sounds pretty nifty.

A couple of metrics I wouldn't mind seeing (and may already be in there) would be:

Damage/Net healing per mana (you'd probably have to use unmodified mana cost values for this, leaving it a little open to interpretation for the effect of spec, set bonuses and such, but might provide an interesting counterpoint to the usual damage lists.

Prematurely cutting off channeled damage spells... for example alot of us use stuff like the latency guestimator in Quartz or similar mods to try to account for latency in our DPS cycles. But that can also lead to cutting off ticks from your channeled spells if it's wrong and you stop prematurely. So it'd be nifty if the tool had a metric/alert/whatever for whenever you miss a tick of Mind Flay, Arcane Missiles, Drain Life, etc just to use as a gauge for how well your mod/your reactions are doing at second guessing latency. (this may be served better as a separate mod though)

We weren't saying we don't want to use or like the extra features, all we were saying was, its not much to ask for the same accuracy as SWStats, on top of the features.

And if you've read what has been stated that is planned but thats not a major objective at this time. I've had to rework my sync plans due to event based seems to be too much data to handle without a major reworking.

I need to do something useless.

Shouldn't Recount be just as accurate as SWStats if you set the combat log range to 200 yards? I would think you wouldn't have to sync at all. Is there any particular fight where the 200 yard limit is an issue?

I downloaded this mod and played around with it over the weekend. In reading this thread I did notice that it will be a bit heavy on the memory but I guess what I was suprised by was how much memory this actually took. After just an hour of raiding protractor showed me at 11mb's just for recount with ACE2 the next closest at 7mb's. Is that rather hgh or normal if I don't delete the info more regularly?

Also, maybe I missed it when browsing through this thread again but is there a window for DPS? As a raid leader I find it easier looking at DPS figures than overall damage done as I find in certain cases that can be a bit misleading.

That's pretty normal for raiding data; remember that it's storing time-based data, so data required scales ~directly with time (unlike something like SWS, where data required scales much more slowly with time, basically not at all except as a function of new abilities being added to the tables.)

This is an honest question...I want to first start by saying that I hope you dont take any of the comments posted as a bash on your mod, you have done great work on a mod that will be very useful to many people. Now that I have said that, if this mod is not extremely accurate in posting data to each member of a raid in sync then how is a fellow raid member supposed to offer advice on how to play their class? The raid member could say that their data does not match the data of the person giving the critique, and thus rendering the comment void.

Exactly what I have been trying to get at this whole time, but like he said, he is adding in a sync system.

Heya Cryect, remember me? NA member until I got banned? Good to see you again.

So yeah, I forced a few guildies to use this today and it appears to be working fine and haven't gotten any major errors as of yet, of course there's the few small ones that's just coding related, but I didn't really bother making screenshots of them.

Anyway, I trust that you'll continue to develop this addon and it seems to be a really good replacement for SWStats since it gives a lot more detail without using that much RAM and CPU.

It is as accurate as Wow Web Stats, which is the "gold standard" anyway.

SWStats might be more accurate sometimes, but it only tells you damage totals. No mid fight dps, no death replay, no dot/hot uptime, no other skill / proc uptime. No time series data. If you REALLY are worried about the damage accuracy totals, run both!
