Mages: Replacement for Arcanum?
I'm still using the last version of Arcanum, which is now a few months old, and has always had many bugs and issues. Assuming that this addon will never be updated again, which other ones to Mages use to to cover the basic Mage tasks in a condensed format on the screen?

Cryolysis ( http://wow-en.curse-gaming.com/downloads/details/6231/) is the replacement. Same look and feel, but it also has timers, like necrosis (never used them; can't tell you if they suck or not). But looking now, I see that cryolysis too hasn't been updated for some time, and it was buggy when I lasted used it (several months ago). I ended up switching to Geist, which displays 25 buttons or so at a keypress and hides them otherwise, and just macroing buffs and teleports to conserve space (something like /cast [button:2] Arcane Brilliance; Arcane Intellect).

Yeah well Cryolysis isn't better than Arcanum, both mods seem to be discontinued. Arcanum still works quite fine for me but someone taking it over would be nice ;p

Cryolysis still works fine for me. The only irritation is it doesn't "overload" the mount button, so it doesn't work in Azeroth. It just blindly tries to use my flying mount every time. Something about the buttons seems a little off, too. For example, I have Evocation and Fire Ward next to each other. ~1/3 of the time, when it looks like my mouse is over fire ward, the click goes to the evocation button. Seems like the graphic and the click targets are misaligned by a few pixels.
I still find it to be an invaluable mod, even with all the glitches. I must have recovered at least two entire hotbars worth of spells between Cryolysis and Autobar.

What would you have me do?

Sorry for the bump, but this looks promising: Sphere. Customizable Necrosis/Cryolysis for all classes. Haven't tried it myself yet, but then again I haven't logged into the mage for awhile.

What are you waiting for, a certain shade of green?

Cryolysis is a very good one as well as Sphere. Sphere can be used by any class not just mages or warlocks. I use Cryolysis on my mage and love it.

The LunarSphere mod I mentioned further up has reached phase 4 of its Beta and is shaping up to be quite simply the best mod of its type I've seen (and no, I've no affiliation with the author what-so-ever).

Just a few question before trying to move to sphere:
- when you expand a menu and use a spell, does that spell become the "default" action of that bar without expanding the menu? (like for Totemus, for instance?)
- Is there a way (again like in totemus i would like to replace for an Ace2 mod ^^) to have left click => Open menu and fade after 3sec
Right click=> Open menu until next right click?

Hopefully this is not thread necromancy, but here goes. Someone has taken up development f Cryolysis again. You can find it at Cryolysis: A New Beginning on Curse ( Addons: Cryolysis: New Beginning | Curse). So far, he's only cleaned a minor bug, but the fact that he's working on it is encouraging for future adaptations.....

I have evil ovaries.

I saw that today, just before coming here, and I was happy about that. Cryolysis still worked in it's current state (I still use it) but sometimes it is buggy. Hopefully the new dev of it can fix it all up and add some of the features talked about.
I took at look at that lunar sphere thing. I haven't downloaded it, because it is still in beta according to that website. It seems as if it's the same as Arc/Cryo, we shall see when its out of beta.

Geist has replaced Cyrolysis for me, and I haven't looked back. You can replicate all of the functionality with macros and the best part is it's hidden when you don't need it.

Does Geist have the eat/drink on one button as Cryolysis does, or do you have to replicate that using macros (which can get annoying)? That's the only reason I still have it anyway.
Circular objects just don't seem to sit right with me when I'm designing my ui, that's why I'm asking. I want to get rid of that ugly circle once and for all.
Also, what is it like on memory usage?

Geise seems to not be updated recently. Does anyone have any information on if someone else has picked this up recently?

Geist is nothing more than an actionbar that shows up under your mouse when you press a user defined key. It can be anywhere from 1 button to 25. I use it and works fine.
Great place to store all abilities you rarely need. (teleports/portals/buffs etc)

For me, a good replacement for such addons was to simply create pretty small actionbars with Bongos2 and place the stuff I need on those. Geist is a pretty good suggestion, too.

Like others have said, Geist is simply some action bars that are hidden until you press a key. To get the same functionality as Cryo you have to do a little manual work in creating your own macros once you get them written it's not that bad.
The one thing I haven't be able to duplicate is the "place water in trade window" middle click functionality that Cryolysis had. Anyone have a macro for that?

No, but the ct_core allows you to do that with ctrl-click
