It just as an indication of course, as useing the macro would just recast your current stance.
Edit: In order for this to work, you have to pick the red "?" as your macro Icon.

Okay, I obviously misinterpreted again. I assumed the end result here was a stance macro (i.e. a macro to change stances).
If all you are after is a hotkeyed position taken up on-screen to show you what stance you're in, then yes, this is a viable option.
With that said, if all you're after is a visual indicator of what stance you're using, assign 3 stance-specific abilities to that button, and actually get some use out of the button! You could use Shield Block/Charge/Intercept, or Overpower/Revenge/Whirlwind... same effect, but a useful end result.
