Ace Compilations
Can anyone throw me some links to a good Ace 2 Compilation for a mage?
I use 1280x1024.
Help is appreciated!

I think the best thing to do for any UI is to browse WowAce and simply read the descriptions of each addon to find the ones you like, and then set them up in a way that best suits your preferences. If you're not inclined to set up your own UI, and would prefer a pre-packaged interface, feel free to ignore my post. :P
In case you do decide to start from scratch, here are a few bread-and-butter addons that should help get you started:
BigWigs - bossmod
PitBull - highly customizable unit frames
Prat - chat frame customization
Quartz - casting bar
Bartender3 - action bars
FuBar - modular information panel
Grid - raid frames
Omen - threat meter
sct - scrolling combat text
SorrenTimers - buff/debuff timers

I'm not sure why you preface this request with "ace 2", or why that distinction alone would warrant a thread. You really should keep in mind that having that little green tag next to its name on your addon list doesn't imbue it with magical awesome powers (I really wish authors would stop appending their .tocs like that). Its just a decent framework and repository with a lot of talented (and not-so-talented) programmers behind it.
However, creepy fanboyism and this bizarre overtake of "ace is your savior" propaganda some took it upon themselves to spread is just silly, and (tell me if I'm wrong, I know he posts here) is what drove others like cladhaire and the ocastingbar dude away from the community.

Zapf,
Sorry to step you your nuts, but the number 1 reason people look for Ace2 addons over anything else is not due to fanboyism, it's due to the automated updater. If someone wants a UI with addons that take seconds to update to the newest version, who are you to say anything?

Yeah, thats why most of my addons are ace2, but considering the op isn't even really sure what he wants, I'm don't think hes doing it for the updater.
Besides, similar updaters have been made that span multiple wow download sites - one developer had a very large thread about his for a while in the wow subforum of sa - it even had options for sharing settings and addon lists to other users (or at least planned on it, I don't keep track of it much, and feel capable of handling the arduous task of downloading an unzipping clique/msbt/sellfish).
edit:

Speaking of the wowaceupdater application, has anyone else's been blowing up on them about 10 seconds after they download the index from the server? I haven't been able to use it to update since last week on two different computers. I tried looking for some direct support over on the ace forums, but didn't see anything over there about this particular issue.

I encounter this from time to time, but was not able to reproduce this problem. But i always feel that this app is using more memory than necessary. And updating while doing nothing else seems to help avoid crashing the app. Alltough i think 2GB of mem and a decent pc shouldn´t be the necessarity for using a small app like this.

I had this problem myself and fixed it yesterday.
Make sure that you have version 1.9.44 - 1.9.43 is bugged that way, and they changed the servers from which it updates itself, so you have to do it manually. Go to your Control Panel -> Software and remove it from there, then redownload and reinstall.
If that doesn't fix it, head over to the wowace.com forums and check out the threads concerning WAU, there's more stuff you can do.

Thanks, this fixed it. I had no clue that the application had stopped auto-updating itself and I was out of date.

Ok since i cant find any information about it I will take my chances here.
Sorry for ninjaing your thread Plexi.
I would like to know if anyone can help me in the following matter:
I want to:
1) Change my current Interface directory from "Packed" (Librarys included) to "Unpacked" (Librabrys standalone), so that all mods use the updated Librarys and things like performance scanners show correct vaules cause of it.
2) Auto update only the librarys. I.e. i know how to download and start the AutoUpdater, but i dont know how to adjust the settings for it so that it goes along 1).
Can anyone please help me with this im forever in your debt. And ive read through these forums and http://www.wowace.com/wiki/WowAceUpdater.
And I cant see or understand that correctly to get to work on it.
So please, give inputs!
Thank anyone in advance.

I wrote something up some months ago and WAU may have changed after this, I use WUU as my updater software but basically:
1. Backup your \Interface\Addons -folder
2. Get the !!!Standalone libraries -package from WowAce Downloads
3. Extract this package to your \Interface\Addons -folder (you'll get many empty folders from this)
4. Start the latest version of WAU
5. Mark all installed addons
6. Uninstall all marked addons
7. DO NOT CLOSE WAU
8. Install all marked addons with the option without externals
9. Start Wow, check for problematic addons
10. If any addons are causing problems, uninstall only those and then install with externals, rinse&repeat
|
Be it WUU or WAU (the updater) there should be the possibility for NO-EXT updating, this means that you yourself guarantee that all the external libraries are there (or live with the consequences). !!!Standalonelibs should contain an empty folder for all current Ace2 libs.
Of course you can individually delete every Ace2 addon you have (make a list) and after that install them with the installers NO-EXT option (In WUU locate the preferences dialog from a menu there). Your addon settings won't be affected as those are under the WTF folder so you can safely remove/add to the Interface\Addons folder and if the addon gets installed properly, it will still utilize your previous settings. It's a good idea to backup the WTF folder beforehand anyway.
Hopefully this helps.

No problem. This may be a hazardous time to disembed though. During the weekend ckknight switched all his addons to use Rock framework so updaters may be a bit off as well as some mods.
Particularly Cartographer, FuBar, PitBull, CowTip and Parrot or their plugins may function a bit funny (or not at all) for a while until all is sorted out.

I'm holding on with updates for this week so that the Rock transition has suffered the worst bumps on the road.
For what it's worth, ckknight commented in a thread at wowace that most problems stem from the fact that people don't use the latest version of WowAceUpdater. The latest version may require uninstalling the previous one before installiing.
Also people are reporting that the Rock based addons seem to work better when installing them embedded.
