I hear the GM Volt has been at car shows too, but its nowhere to be seen yet!
Yah better options out there then waiting for the Optimus, I actually heard that Apple put a patent request in for an OLED keyboard recently, it'll be interesting to see if they get it or not. Apple actually has the infrastructure in place to make them cheaper than the Optimus guys would.
Anyways the Optimus is, in the end, just a keyboard with some fancy graphics attached. Its nothing new, its just supposed to be a way to create references to key functions really, making your W key look like an Up Arrow for movement when you play WoW, that sort of thing. You'd still be using the same key setup, hand position, etc. $500 for pictures of your WoW abilities on the keyboard basically.
I can sell you a laminated cutout of those abilities for the same price if you'd like, you can glue it to the keyboard.

I had an n52 years ago but somehow I've completely lost it, anyone from the UK/EU know any place that has any for a reasonable amount? I've tried Amazon but with the amount people are wanting there I might as well just wait until the n52te is released.

So I ended up getting an MX Revolution, and so far I really like it. Now I'm in the market for a new keyboard. Unfortunately, I think I'm too picky. I'd love to just find a simple backlit, semi-ergonomic keyboard, but I'm not having any luck. Does anyone here know of any? I'd love to find some backlit version of the Logitech Wave or Microsoft Comfort Curve, or a semi-ergonomic version of the G15, but I haven't had much luck at all. >.<

Actually I got myself a mx revolution this weekend as well. Combined with uberoptions, this thing is really, really awesome. At least for me, this thing is miles ahead of the microsoft sidewinder mouse in both usability (eg. can remap all buttons) and more importantly, comfort.
For the first time, ever, I've got more buttons then I really know what to do with on a mouse. I'm loving it.

I use a Razor Copperhead mouse. My favorite thing about it? I can push down the mousewheel button without causing a scroll action - the scroll wheel is *clicky* and requires a little more effort to move than most scroll wheels.
This is really nice if you have your mousewheel bound to action bar paging - I can rollup + click scroll button for icelance or rolldown + click scroll for fireblast. Every other mouse I've tried this with starts scrolling as soon as I try and push down on the scroll button.
I'm comfortable with any keyboard out there, but I always remap my keys so that I use esdf instead of wasd. This lets my pinky have access to more buttons (q,a,z,tab, caps, shift, ctrl) without having to move my hand around on the keyboard.

I've read up on a keyboard that Microsoft released that is the only one I've come across that meets my needs, but it's ridiculously expensive and it comes with a mouse, which I really don't need >.< For those curious, check out Microsoft's "Ultimate" keyboard.

Yes that's just what every keyboard needs.
I also like the Start button located obnoxiously in the center of the keyboard right below the space bar.

What I want is something that updates in realtime so that, say, my Healing Wave button can show the amount that it's likely to heal based on the number of stacks of 6% buff on the target.
Or have a Grid-like layout (like the mod) that shows health for the raid, flashes when the person gets aggro etc and is bound to various kinds of heals. (so I just push the key on the keyboard rather than click the screen to target and heal someone).
I want my earthshock key to change colour when the cooldown is up, for example.
Your cutout can't do that, but an OLED keyboard could, in theory.

A decent gaming keyboard will have an option to disable this key while in a game so it doesn't get clicked accidentally.

Presently I am using a wolfking KB (my G15 died on me)
an MX revolution (mouse wheel dispell + forever scroll is very ftw)
and since no ones mentioned them Zalman 5.1 Headset. This headset is one of the less expentsive true 5.1 headsets and works amazingly.

That still leaves the thumb free to move and seven spare buttons that do not need or even want to be shifted.

I use the N52 and love it although the software can be laggy at times.
Question though. How would you bind keys without the n52 software?
If I don't bind any keys, then the "W" key on the n52 is the same as the "W" key on the keyboard. And so on and so on.
What I do is make a new macro for each key (and d-pad location) and bind them as such "shift-1, shift-2, shift-3" all the way up to "shift-=" (shift-equals sign). This is 12 keys and the exact length on a Bartender3 bar.
Then what I do is make another set of macros like "alt-shift-1, alt-shift-2", etc all the way up to "alt-shift-=" (alt-shift-equals sign). This is another 12 available binds and the exact length of a Bartender3 bar.
Then I again repeat with another (example "cntl-alt-shift-1, cntl-alt-shift-2, all the way up to cntrl-alt-shift-=" This because a 3rd set of bindable keys.
Notice that I can still use my keyboard keys such as "L" quest log, "C" character paper-doll, O" Social tab, etc.
Once this is done, then I go into WOW Key Binds menu and assign each Bartender3 bar to a set up 12 binds (or any Bartender3 buttons I choose really).
Now once that is done, I just have to drop the spell icons, whatever icons on the correct locations of the Bartender3 bars and all is done.
So my question is, how would you do this without the n52 software? What I am doing....is this the correct logic or am i missing something here that would make this much easier?
The initial setup of these binds can take 2-4 hours.
EDIT: Someone mentioned that their n52 broke. I am on my 2nd n52 because the scroll wheel on my first stop working. My n52 was about 1.5 years old. I opened a ticket on the Belkin website and next thing I knew, they told me to send the old one back and shortly after I received a brand new n52 was sent to me.
Belkin's replacement service was awesome even though the item was no longer on warranty.

What you're missing is that I said not to use the n52 software for state-shifting. Binding the keys to match 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0, -, = is of course done in the N52 software.
But after that, don't use nostromo's "state shift" features when you can do that in-game without consuming even more key signals.
Use actionbar paging in Bartender3 or Bongos (or whatever you use) to swap what actions are in those slots (1, 2, 3 ... -, =)
See?

Got it! Yeah I don't use the n52 State Shift features because like you said, I can use Bartender3 or Bongos2 to swap action bars.
It is funny though because just yesterday I was thinking of trying the "State Shift" function of the n52 so that I could possibly have more than one macro on the same button (ie: two different Steady Shot macros - the new and the old). I know that this could technically be down via Bartender3 Action Bars however I am out of available bars/buttons.

Does anyone use a Logitech MX Revolution?
For the life of me, I can not figure out how to get the side scroll buttons to stop knocking me out of the game. I programmed them to key functions, yet when I am ingame they knock me out and then perform the function.

There is a program called uberOptions that lets you change things like this. Unfortunately my googleFu is week today and I can't seem to find it on the internet aside from the old page which is down for some reason.
However it still didn't let me do things like just make some buttons 'button5' so I could use them in clique, though.

Fortunately, the author of uberOptions linked to it on page 9 of this very thread. The link looks like this: http://www.mstarmetro.net/~rlowens/

Although I have seen a torrent on a few torrent sites. We're getting off-topic now I guess. But uberOptions helps a lot, as does USB Overdrive on the Mac. I love the MX Revolution for sure, but if you can't get uberOptions somewhere, I recommend not using Setpoint since it behaved slightly less strangely (still did the weird search window tho).

Looks like there is a new website for Uberoptions. Just searched for a couple seconds and found a good link.
I just bought a G9 tonight to try out, so hopefully it goes well!
Edit: Looks like Uberoptions doesn't work with the G9. Shit.

Quick n52 question for the D-pad movement fans out there as I would really like to try it out - when you say "try the D-pad for your movement", do you mean Forward, Backward, RStrafe, LStrafe, OR Forward, Backward, RTurn, LTurn?
The reason for my asking is that I can turn so fast already with my Logitech MX518 mouse (love it btw), wouldn't the D-pad be more like using the arrow keys (if it is in fact used for RTurn, LTurn), and thus much slower? Or am I bonkers and just missing something? Thanks in advance.

I have mine set to turning. That way, i can turn slowly if I want to (I rarely do... only when im running around a city and am too lazy to grab my mouse), but I can still turn quickly with my mouse (g5 laser mouse at max sensitivity ftw!) and, by holding down the right mouse, strafe using the dpad. So I would say that setting it to turn gives you the ability to do everything you can do with it set to strafe, plus the option of using it to turn if you ever feel like it.
