Yep. If you're wanting to bind the two thumb buttons to something else that's not WoW-related, you might be SOL, though.

I recently purchased a Belkin N52TE. Belkin packages the N52TE in such a way that you can lay your hand on it before purchase to determine if it's right for you. My local Best Buy had both the N52TE and the Saitek Cyber Commander in stock. I chose the Belkin unit because it fit my hand reasonably well. After a week of play and a slight learning curve, I've decided to keep it around.
The first thing I did was remove the thumb stud from the D pad. It caused my thumb to stick out at an unusual angle while making the pad difficult to use accurately. As the switch is slightly concave, the pad of my thumb rests naturally. I decided to use the D pad for movement. This requires some practice but overall it made me a more efficient player since I can move and use instant abilities at the same time. The buttons are logically placed for the most part. A notable exception button 15, which sits underneath the knuckle of my thumb. I originally intended to bind this button to jump but have found it impossible to hit while using the D pad. Some ergonomics expert over at Belkin must have freakishly long thumbs. As for keybindings, I placed my primary abilities on the top row, where my fingertips naturally sit. Lesser used abilities are on the middle row. The bottom row is offset down a bit, which is useful for finding your place in case your hand shifts while raiding. I have these buttons bound to utility functions such as vent PTT.

Generally from a ergonomic view, your default position should be the middle row, you can reach for the upper and lower row from there without having the almost break your fingers
You do know you can lift up the hand-rest and remove it so you can re-seat it about half an inch back?

I use the Razer Lachesis. It's a great mouse, but I am having trouble binding more than 3 of its 9 buttons to Clique. Has anyone been able to use buttons 4-9 to register with Clique? I know some of the Logitech mouses have button commands like "General Button" that work with Clique. I can't find any such command on the Lachesis menu.

I use a N-52 from time to time. My biggest problem is that i play on a laptop that isn't always in a place where using the speedpad is feasible so I end up using the keyboard almost exclusively. Other than that I just use a regular wireless mouse when I'm plugged in at my desk

Yes, it's in the options - just change the button to 'Macro' and Advanced Functions will pop out allowing you to bind that button to a normal key.

I just got a n52te and it got me thinking about buying a new mouse. I am using a razer deathadder and while it is great for fps I think something like a logitech mx revolution might be better for wow. So, I was wondering what do you guys who have the revolution use the sidewheel for?

The only thing I have issues with is jumping while moving with it since the thumb used to be where I hit my jump so I've had to take my hand off my mouse to jump which I know is going to make me dive headfirst into some trash at the wrong time.
I think overall that the d-pad on the Saitek is far superior to the one with the N52. If you're going to try to use one for movement, I think the Saitek is totally the way to go. If you're not, maybe it's a wash, but I'd definitely give the d-pad movement a real try.
|
I've been using the Saitek controller for about 1.5 years now. I use the d-pad to move. I have bound jump to mouse button 5. I have 1 pinky key bound to an alt modifier, and the other to vent. All other buttons are individual abilities, most macro'd to be 2 different abilities depending on whether I have a friend or foe targetted.
I could never go back to using a keyboard. Moving with your thumb is win.

I tried reprogramming it and had a difficult time with it, even using Uber. It wouldn't keep the reprogram, kept doing the stupid cascade windows thing which isn't very handy in the middle of a raid. I switched to the Microsoft Sidewinder and am much happier with it.

The Logitech G5 (Gaming Edition for the extra side button) is fantastic for wow. I have jump bound to the large side button, push to talk in vent on the smaller side button, tab bound to scroll left, escape/clear target bound to scroll right and a skill of my choice bound to the increase/decrease sensitivity button (Cloak of Shadows on my rogue for example).

#1
WoWInsider: World of Warcraft mouse available for pre-order
Preorder: Steelseries WebShop 100 EUR
Looks like a solid product (I can't imagine otherwise with that price tag). Buttons seem to sit where I want them; 6 at the thumb, 6 at front and a scroll wheel with 3 = total of 15.
Looking forward to the reviews.

Isn't this made by Ideazon? I haven't really heard anything good made by that company. Skeptical about this mouse at the moment.

No, its made by SteelSeries. "The World of Warcraft MMO Gaming Mouse was designed specifically for World of Warcraft® by Blizzard® and SteelSeries." SteelSeries acquired Ideazon, not vice versa. SteelSeries makes good quality products.
As far as Ideazon, I've had a Zboard for a few years now and its always worked fine. We still use it on one of our computers with the original WoW insert. The Fang controllers work well too.

And there's a little more from the Amazon blog who saw a demo: Computers
Press release:
Today, SteelSeries will be previewing the first WoW Gaming Mouse at BlizzCon 2008.
With more than 130 World of Warcraft (WoW) commands organized into seven categories for controlled game-play, 15 programmable buttons, six possible DPI settings and 16 million profile-specific color illuminations, the MMO Gaming Mouse will be sure to impress WoW gamers with both in-game control and enhanced design.
The World of Warcraft® MMO Gaming Mouse graphic user interface design looks like part of the game with armor-like face and illumination color that is tied to a profile for up to 10 different profiles and more than 16 million colors to chose from. The aesthetics of the mouse are merely the gates of what it is capable of. With easy to use drag and drop software, players can program all 15 buttons with over 130 in-game World of Warcraft® commands.
The ability for mouse customization for WoW players promotes better game play and comfort, including:
* 6 DPI (dots per inch) or CPI (counts per inch) settings at 800, 1200, 1600, 2000, 2400 and 3200
* 3 possible poll rate settings of 250, 500 or 1000 Hz
The mouse will be available in late Q4 in time for the holidays, the World of Warcraft® MMO Gaming Mouse will be sold for $99.99 on NewEgg.com, Amazon, Microcenter, Dell and GameStop. BlizzCon attendees will be the first to see and test this original mouse at the SteelSeries booth this weekend.

Is there a good left handed mouse that's recommended?

Well, now that my raid has sort of spun down and I'll have some downtime until I'm pvping/raiding seriously, I was going to completely change up my keybindings, until I read a bit about the n52 and the Saitek Cyborg Control Center. The thumb movement sounds friggin' perfect for me, but I'm incredibly bind-happy - anything I can bind, I will bind. I've also heard there are some quality of material issues with the Saitek which make me a little nervous.
I went to check bestbuy and circuitcity and neither had the thing. n52, yeah, but I'm more interested in the Saitek setup considering the button layout. Has anyone done any serious arenaing with this thing? I'd love to find out more about it, but most of the reviews didn't even bother to change the movement keys to the d-pad - although, the few that did take that approach seemed to love it. I'm just looking for a nudge to push me to buy the thing, really. >.> I got a G15 and honestly the thing was a waste of money (nothing wrong with it, nice enough, just doesn't really change much), I'd rather not go through that again.
Since you guys were mentioning them I was wondering if you were still happy with the buy and how they're holding up, and what it's done for you as far as gameplay.

I use a MX518, N52TE, and G15.
http://www.techfresh.net/wp-content/...speed-pad2.jpg
http://img.presence-pc.com/dossiers/duel_mxdb/mx_1.jpg
http://www.hardware.no/tester/input/...15hel-stor.jpg
On the MX518, the forward thumb button is my PTT for Vent and the back is a modifier key (Alt). The button on the MX518 that is used to increase the speed of the cursor was reprogramed so I could use it to bind my trinkets to it. I hit it alone for my one trinket and then ALT (bound on the mouse also) plus it for my second one.
n52te top row buttons from right to left:
1: Crusader Strike
2: Seal of Blood
3: Judgement of Wisdom
4: Exorcism
5: Nothing as of now.
6: Hammer of Justice
ALT+1: Divine Storm
ALT+2: Seal of Command
ALT+3: Judgement of Light
ALT+4: Holy Wraith
ALT+5: Nothing as of now.
ALT+6: Repentance
I used to click alot but after I set up these binds I found I don't need to click much at all other than special use abilites. I have the 7th button on the n52te (second row second from right) bound as jump. The button below the Dpad is set to Consecrate. All of this will change once WotLK hits and my main abilites are more set in stone.
I have F1-F12 set for things that I don't use in combat like mana biscuits, Prospecting, mining prof, JC prof, mounts, a rez, hearthstone, and bags.
This set up has made it so I rarely have to click or even touch the G15 during combat. I am still looking for a way to bind a few more things so I touch the keyboard or click even less but I am waiting till WotLK because so many abilites are changing that I might not need them to be bound on the main keys (Holy Wraith for example).
