I didn't realize this thread was about minimalism, but about finding a UI (or parts of one) that work for you/him/me. For most of us, elegance and minimalism are helpful and desirable. In his case, he likes flashy stuff. It helps him have situational awareness cues, or the like. I realize one of the earlier UI threads said "post something that represents good design...", but many don't even know what that is. I'm not even sure I do. In this case, his design choice was specifically for MORE information showing, rather than less. I think that's valid, even if you or I think it's ugly or potentially redundant.
I think a ton of the clutter would be reduced if he hid the party interface in his raid (since he has Grid). *shrugs*. The rest of it, I can see value in most of it.
(For example, I have a ton of bindings, but still show my bars... so ~60 buttons on-screen. I don't like it, but it's effective. I haven't figured out how I'd manage to survive with only ~24 slots visible, since so often there are optimal things I want to hit at any given time, and they aren't always things I use often enough to have the bindings in muscle memory.)
|
You didnt got my point,i was not criticizing his look/design. Ofcourse its his choice. What i said was, this UI requires optimisation,as whats the point of having things on your screen which replicate each other?
Besides,i hope this thread is not going to be just one more "screenshot to ui",thats why we give suggestions and criticize,as it only makes things better.
|
Yes it is quite troublesome and redundant, what can I do to improve that?
|
I'd suggest to stick to one of them. EBBs's abilities of buff-management give you almost unlimited possibilities. You can set up one group for your buffs, another group for your debuffs, third group to your target debuffs/buffs,and you can set it up in one style/manner.
Also i would suggest you to work on your GRID,you can put almost everything into it,including mana amount/dead/alive people(not amount of those people though)/specifical debuffs/buffs/aggro on people, can continue forever.

Once again: Ryas, what font is it that you're using?
Santavido: How did you get the 3d character portraits in front of your bars? What mod are you using?

Tried to improve my look with more uniform borders, though they are the basic blizzard ones, i dont want to add in skinner just to use more ram and cpu to replace the ok looking windows.
I also made some macros.
Mount: (leftclick = flying) / (rightclick = riding)
Trinket: (leftclick = slot 13) / (rightclick = slot 14)
Decurse: (leftclick = cure poison) / (rightclick = cure disease)
I kept the info bars inside the frame with all the info i need displayed nice and neat.
Omen has no background, and when im in a raid Omen, Grid, SWStats all come up automattically and have the proper blizzard border shared.
Trying out Buffalo, i have noticed it doesn't show my tracking buff.
Fixed up the Unit Frames a bit to have a uniform color scheme and show the name as hostility. Also using MiniChat to help unclutter my UI a bit, which im liking.
please give me some feedback.

Personally, the UI style is not of my taste for one big reason, you have not centrilized your most needed combat information. You need to move your head/eyes up and down to monitor your own health, chat, buffs, castbar and possibly cooldowns. I guess you are a healer (earthshield, natures swiftness) so continuously moving from your raidframes (which I assume are going to be above your button area) to your target seems like too much work.

Hubar, have you tried PowerAuras or something similiar? You can set it to display a texture, icon, etc. along with a timer (if needed) when certain buffs/debuffs/etc. appear or disappear. I use it so I have a very visual reminder of time remaining on any of my on use trinkets or any other buffs that I need to keep a close eye on.

Yes you are correct, but I monitor 2 monitors all day long at work, and am use to monitoring an array of information, so looking up at my health isnt really a big concern to me.
Grid is to the right of my buttons and left of omen.
That way I can look at my cast bar, threat, and all my health/mana bars including mine listed in Grid at one time. And my buffs I usually am not to worried about because I rebuff before every boss. Other than that, both Natur Enemy Castbars and BigWigs timers are right above my action bars, so that I can see them quickly.
I appreciate the info, and I have tried playing with my unit frames down at the bottom, and i feel like its too crowded.

Here's my UI;
A bit cluttered perhaps, I like it that way, though. Looks the same now, only I deleted Baggins (that addon really annoyed me after a few minutes..)

But I also would like to know how much time is left for my regular buffs, namely fort, mark and several pally buffs, so I can click them off and ask for new ones.
That is why I keep EBB bars on the side.

You can create a new buff group in EBB specifically for Rmpage/Flurry/whatever else you want, and just place that over your character frame. I do that for SnD, Find Weakness, and Mongoose procs.

After taking a look at Savantido and Led++, I suddenly got inspired for this latest number. Completely centralized information for a DPS class, and still pretty good for a healing class. I'll post a raid shot once the character is high enough to get in one.

I tried this AddOn but couldn't get it to work. Tried to get it to work with the buff 'Focus' and it worked fine if someone other than myself procced it and I was targetting them, but if I procced it didn't show anything. Any pointers would be appreciated.

Brokenwall, I really like the idea of Fubars being around UI elements instead of just being at the edges of the screen. I might have to look at incorporating that into my UI!

Thanks for all the advices.
I think I will settle for debuff filter as a way for singling out my rampage buff timer.
