FlexBar AddOn Reborn!

Welcome all the die hard fans of the bygone FlexBar. Welcome all the new faces to the famous FlexBar. Many of you have been seeing for months and months that there has been a FlexBar2 on the Ace downloads page. Well it is finally time to release it!

Flexbar is an addon that gives you control over each individual "action button". Not as many addons do, with an individual "action bar". You can place them anywhere you wish on your screen. You will have a fine tuned control of the look, size and placement of each button you create. Each button can also be grouped together with other buttons like an action bar. While FlexBar does not have pages as the default action bar does, the buttons can remap according to your stance/shapshift/shadowform/stealth.

On top of all that goodness there is NO limit to the number of buttons you can have on your screen either. No more 120 button limit. Hehe, I would not suggest that you create a 1000 buttons, as your frame rate and cpu will slow down to a crawl. But you could if you so choose. I talk about performance and this version of FlexBar has a MUCH smaller impact on your system. It is not the system hog that it once was.

Right now this is the first release candidate (RC) and is lacking one major enhanement. A GUI for the configuration of the action buttons. Everthing is done oldschool with /slashcommands. Since it is an Ace addon a config GUI will be created as soon as we can.

The AddOn can be downloaded here:

Information about the Addon can be forund here:

FlexBar2 - WowAce Wiki

As we said above we are working on the GUI. We need some help doing this. We are putting out a call for developers to takeover leading the GUI development. If you interested in helping please join us here:

Help request: FlexBar2 GUI

It's on the Ace forums so you might have to sign up.

Below is the list of slash commends and a Future FAQ.

Got any screenshots that we can drool over with? :)

JackHound 10/01/07 6:50 PM

Sounds interesting. Definitely something to check out. With the individual button options, I'll have to do some tinkering with it for sure. :)

Strike!
Finally!

It's back *cheer*!

I used the old Flexbar untill it was broke.

Say, will there be a forum (and with it hopfully a same big community) with the new one?
Or is there already one and I only missed the link (only found the Talk:Flexbar2 link)?

Haven't tried it out till now, but I downloaded the file and read the Slashcommand.txt.
Is there some kind of reverence? Like the Command-,Event- and Conditional reverence the old Flexbar had.
The Slashcommand.txt seems to me, ...just not so complete. And not nearly as user-friendly, as the old one.

I've been in the market for a new action bar for a while now, and after being dissatisfied with Bongos and BarTender, I'll be sure to give this a try!

I used to use Flexbar religiously until I discovered other mods that could do most of the same things with less scripting required and less resources. What are the main differences between the new Flexbar and the assorted bar mods you can get nowdays (Bongos/Bartender) besides the finer button groupings you can do?

Here's one without cyCircled, it looks better with it imo but I didn't have it at the time of the screenshot

Its main advantage of course is micromanaging every button, but apart from that it also has more features then most of those mods (it has very nice highlights for buffs/debuffs for one, see above screenshot). And is totaly modular, which means that if you are an addon coder you shouldn't have too much problems plugging into flexbar to add features.

Got it installed and updated from the WAU. First login with FlexBar2 and its modules as the only enabled addons and I get this error...

Code:

Interface\Addon\FLexBar2\Core.lua:1:Bad
argument #6 to `NewAddon'. Library
" LibRockConfig-1.0" is not found.

Looking in the lib file, yeah, its not there. >.> I went to the Ace file site and put the lib in the libs file and it worked fine after that.

First thoughts are, a GUI would rock. I don't mind the slash commands, but going back and looking at all the menu commands again and again and...again can become tedious. The possibilities for what it can do seem awesome tho! I really can't wait until I can take some time and sink into what it can do (besides just setting up a few buttons and rows).

Thank you for reporting that error, fixed :) About a GUI, as said in the main post, I lack time to do it myself, I'd need volunteers for that.

Wow, I've been casually following the progress on Flexbar2 for a while, and still using the old flexbar with the flexbar_slash addon to make slash commands work. I never really used the scripting capabilities of it, but being able to place individual buttons versus bars has always been a key feature for me.

Great job on keeping up with it, and I hope to be using it as soon as I can take the time to re-bind my buttons to it. :)

Can we still map pet buttons onto this? And can we hide/show buttons with a right click/mod key/mouse over? (I have the feeling I've read the answer to this somewhere, but I can't for the life of me remember what is was)

I see a /settype in the slash commands readme that seems unfinished, and something about attributes.

Anyway, if yes to both, I am all over this. Needs more 1 button pet bars.

/fb settype is indeed unfinished, it will be use to change the buttons to either action buttons (the current only option), macro buttons, lua buttons or pet buttons when its done.

There is currently also no way to make the buttons show/hide on events though, I'm working on that currently

Does the new version allow for drag-to-position buttons with edge snapping in some sort of layout mode (think the unlocked bars in Bongos or Bartender, or even YahooWidgets) or are we still stuck with drag handles on a single button in the group?

I loved Flexbar dearly until it became broken simply because I enjoyed being able to mirror my unusual keyboard layout onscreen without having an excess of buttons. However, I also remember the pain of having to redo that layout for every alt I rolled. (My keybindings don't change...just what they bindings do.)

'/fb unlock' will unlock all buttons, it works exactly like bartender, they become green and are draggable. To unlock specific buttons you'd do '/fb unlock button=<buttons>'

Thanks for the quick response! I'm off to install the mod as we speak.
