While tekkub does recommend Lightheaded, no, he hasn't integrated support into TourGuide. But he has added support for both TomTom and Cartographer waypoints, so as long as the guide writer puts coords into the relevant sections, they will show up as waypoints at the appropriate time.

So the pathing is optimized if you wanted to visit every single node, but that's not really what we want to do - we want to fly as close as necessary to each cluster of nodes.
|
There are some plans to implement "node clustering" and finding the centroid of traveling cluster points. However, this is by no means easy and will take time to implement.
Many simple techniques that come to mind but most of these won't yield routes that are good, where a player could simply have just looked at the route on the Battle Map and manually decide to cut certain corners, etc.

Xin: Is there any plan to allow importing routes? If so I'll focus on standardizing my notes on a sane format, rather than recreate the wheel.

At this point in time, we aren't considering expanding beyond Herbs/Ore/Fishing nodes. However, using other DBs that are registered with CartographerNotesDB in the future is not impossible in the future.
Cartographer is staying in Rock framework, it won't change. If you don't wish to use Rock, CartoAce is still available, which is the last version of Cartographer on Ace2 before it was converted to Rock. However, at the moment, Routes will only work with Rock, not Ace2.

wow, after using Cartographer for a really long time I finally got the thing with the way points - thanks A LOT
Don't really know of any special *new* mods, but although I've been looking for cool mods for months, I'd just throw in those that I have overlooked ever since but really came to love:
1. Possessions - /poss <itemname> shows you which alt got the item and whether it's in inv, mail or bank
2. TradeJunkie - shows all the recipes you haven't got yet.
And then there's the stuff that makes you wonder why it's not in the default ui
1. oApplication - alt+leftclick = apply to mainhand / alt+rightclick = apply to offhand
2. alt+click to send stuff to the mail windows/trade window (in Postman iirc)
3. Examiner as the successor of SuperInspect
And as nice as as VisualThemes looks, I think it's just eyecandy, unlike most other addons that really fill in needs, so it's not the next big thing. Same reason for UnitFrames, many look nice but for example Pitbull just brings features that rock, not the looks

I will recommend BankItems in replacement of Possessions.
And WoWEquip instead of Examiner.

The only WoWEquip I could find isn't even a UI addon, it's a standalone program. Those are hardly the same thing.

err, the WoWEquip we mean is something like CTProfiles ingame, no clue how'd you replace Examiner/SuperInspect (which just shows more stuff on "inspect player") - although I'm quite new to WoWEquip, maybe my fault
and btw, BankItems seems to mostly show the contents of your bank and your alt's banks when you aren't actually at the bank, I use OneView (+OneBag, OneBank) for this, but it's kind of pointless as I don't want to look through my bank, I wanna know which char has it where in seconds :P

An addon that i saw on the interface thread that i have tried out and really like so far is klappa.
It works similarly to autobar in that when you mouse over an action bar it pops up in a direction with multiple buttons.
The main difference i can note is that it isn't restricted to items. I use it with my hunter for aspects, tracking, tradeskills to really cut down on clutter on my main actionbars, and i can't wait to try it out on my lock and mage.
i haven't checked how heavy it runs but so far no bugs.

For mails you can go download Postal and it will do the same thing. If you want to use Alt+Click for everything else then you should download AltClickToAddItem (yes, that`s the name of the addon).
You can find both Postal and AltClickToAddItem on wowace.com/files

Having downloaded and run Cartographer routes based on the recommendation in this thread, I have to say a big thankyou.
It's the single best mod I've ever downloaded in terms of in-game returns. My guild is trying to put together resist sets for hydross, and as one of the miners in guild, I'm seeing very very good returns on my time investment. Before I'd mine until I got a couple of stacks of ore and it'd take me longer. Now I farm for a set period of time and come up with more ore.
As to a mod that's awesome that nothing else does, I'd have to suggest Align. One / command and a grid pops up to help you get your UI set up just right. My latent OCD loves it, even if it is as old as the hills. It might be commonplace, but it's irreplaceable as far as I know.

Okay now I'm going to have to go dig through the mod and look at the math just out of curiosity. This is basically a variation of the classic Traveling Salesman problem and it's insanely compute intensive to solve absolutely for more than a hand full of nodes.

After my initial love affair with Recount, (dampened now somewhat by the seeming lack of development) I was giddy at the announcement of Cryect's two other planned addons Relog and Replay. My guild was sure I was moments away from eloping with him.
Relog was supposed to be like SW Unilog and described as: "An advanced searchable/filterable combat log, with additional information stored (health, mana/energy/rage, threat)"
Replay was supposed to record player movements over time for review. I almost can't describe the amount of fun this would have caused me in further highlighting the latest near comical deaths of our shadow priests. I used to dream about it back when we were working on Vashj. Knowing who was where the whole fight would round out my arsenal of post raid evaluation tools nicely.
Sadly it seems that development on both of these addons has stagnated.

Dash really needs a GUI to be truely awesome. Right now you have to manually edit the lua file (Dashboard.lua)
Here are two of the changes I made.
To change the transparency of the dash:
Line 113
self:SetBackdropColor(0,0,0,0.5)
The last number is the value. 0 for clear, and up to 1 for black. I use .15
To change the size of the, uh, mouseover box in the top right(can't think of the right word)
Lines 148 and 149:
spot:SetWidth(2)
spot:SetHeight(2)
Change from 2 and 2 to something bigger, makes it easier especailly if you play windowed. I use 100 and 100

Afaik, you can't get positions for anything (not even yourself) inside an instance. But if they somehow solve that then, yeah that would be an awesome mod!

Witness GPSLib. Apparently, it should work, though I have not tried it.
Proof of concept involved showing a particular dungeon map and your (and your group) position on it... actually, I think it was a PoC of the graph-lib that showed the dungeon map in some spectacular way.

I'm thinking that if you were just extrapolate recent trends, the "next big thing" might be even more ultra-minimalistic UI; essentially removing everything from the standard ui (minimap, actionbars, unit frames, combat text.... everything), and somehow replacing them with effective environmental cues; sounds, colored name plates, avion-like effects, etc.
also, just wanted to mention; somewhat similar to Dash, theres a mod called "geist"- when you hit a certain key, it pops up a 5x5 action bar under your mouse. its fast access to commonly used, but otherwise invisible, functionality.
I also think the PVE world is a bit further along than the PVP world, in some regards, when it comes to mods. I think theres some pretty "rich pasture" in terms of building some of the existing "common knowledge" about BGs, and about specific arena team matchups, into DBM/Bigwigs-esque frameworks.

You can get relative positions via the minimap and calibration, which is good enough in this case. GPSLib/DungeonCrawler were proof of concept.

I was toying with trying to develop replay capability for world of warcraft via an external program and packet logging/sniffing and replaying them in a sandbox version of wow by sending it false packets, but after discussing it with a few friends we agreed it would probably just get our accounts banned by warden and take up way too much time.
I still think this has alot of potential though, if for the very least that the explosion of WoW videos on the internet has caused. Imagine if you could at any time record a bossfight in a small file anyone could grab and then see the whole fight from your eyes as easy as you can grab a combat log for WWS. Even if it only gives blizzard pause at the idea of it, or any dev for future games even.

Yes, they don't like such things. Very nice idea btw. That would really be a next step. Just imagine being able to view your greatest fights from any perspective and any speed.
