Performance Problems: Grid, CowTip (DogTags?), and Aloft

Hey all. I've been having pretty poor FPS performance lately, whenever there's significant action going on, and decided to see which addons were causing it. Using OptionHouse's CPU profiling on one of our good Sarth+3 attempts tonight, I found that 3 addons appear to be the culprits, each using 30+% of the overall addon CPU time: Grid, Aloft, and CowTip.

Grid, I only use one module, GridManaBars. What can I do to improve Grid performance? What features of it commonly cause slowness? I don't use InstantHealth or similar, but I do use the built-in version, using that cvar (don't recall the name); does that impact performance severely? If Grid just has poor performance, is there another addon that'll simply let me see the entire raid, compactly, targettable, health bars, mana bars, and some indicator for curse/magic/disease/poison?

Aloft, I love just for customizability. Note that when I did the test, I had the Threat module of Aloft enabled, but I've since disabled it, since I don't use it much. Modules I do enable are Alpha, Cast Bar, Class Colors, Health Bar, Mana Bar, Name Text, Nameplate Glow, Raid Icon. Are any of those known to cause performance problems? I saw a link on the previous page to a page listing several different nameplate addons, but at this point I'm thinking that if I don't have a way to get Aloft performing well, I'll just use the default nameplates; I don't really use that much for extra feature, I just like the customizable graphics.

CowTip is essential to me. I don't currently use the Ace libraries externally, but I do recall from performance tests a while ago that it wasn't so much CowTip being performance hungry as it was DogTags. Are there any features in CowTip/DogTags that are especially performance hungry? If there's no way to make CowTip perform much better, can anyone suggest another tooltip mod supports the features I need: tooltip at the cursor, health bar, name colored by class (preferably with owner if it's a pet), target colored by class, raid icon, as well as the normal tooltip info (guid, level, race, etc). Zone, mana bar and talent spec would be nice, but not required.

I also sometimes use Recount, but know quite well how much of a performance impact it has, so disable that whenever I have performance problems.

I appreciate any help and suggestions that anyone can offer, thanks!

Rawr!

Missing Combat Log – Mods Fault?

I wanted to start doing a WWS report, I know I have to delete my old log – so I can start fresh for a raid. However my issue is I cant find my old log…

I have Vista – so I am aware that vista moved my WOW files in two places. C:\program files\world of warcraft ect. And public\games\world of warcraft

I checked both places and no combat logs in the Log folder. I Run Recount – I was wondering if this mod could be moving my combatlog or deleting it maybe?

Use Vista's search function to find the file combatlog.txt. I suspect you don't have an old log file to delete.

Not only that, but you don't even need to delete it. The new log just appends to an existing one, and WWS will bark at you if that happens (and if that's the case, open the log, search for the date you're trying to parse, delete everything above that). If you don't have one in the normal spots, you don't need to worry about it at all.

Also, if you've run WWS before, it has an option to zip up your logs into another folder. It will also delete your old log for you if you're not running WoW at the time (WoW locks the file to read-only once it starts writing, and only unlocks when you exit).

sRaidFrames and X-Perl are so very, very close to being perfect for my needs, with two cavets:

1)sRaidFrames was my TBC raid-frame option, but it appears to have added an annoying option since my hiatus:

All frames (self/party/unit) show an "anticipatory healing bar" with sRaidFrames active. It's distracting and misleading; sRF would be a great fit with them off. I can't find the offending option anywhere. Does anyone know where it is?

2)In X-Perl, rapid rearrangement of raid frames is restricted by redundant areas on each grouping:

Each grouping is given a "footprint" (red) of a full grouping, even in there is only one or two players of that class. This makes it extremely difficult to stack the raid frames into a tight configuration on the fly, especially important in PvP or PUG raids. Is it possible to remove the "shadow" area in each raid frame that enforces an 8x1 size? I have sRaidFrames/CTRaid in mind, where the draggable area in each class frame corresponds to the number of players in that given group.

Thanks!

Anyone know if Sacredbuff or any similar Priest sphere addon will be resurrected? Tried Lunarsphere and find it overly complex for the functionality I need.

My current problem is with my minimap. All the minimap addons i tried (pminimap, rminimap, simpleminimap) all do not show my tracking icon. I try to look for a "show tracking icon" button and even in the lua file; changing anything with mini map tracking to "true" or "show"

I now am not using no minimap addons and still my tracking button is not on my map. Does anyone know how to get it back or why this is happening?

Hello all. Right now I'm having some difficulties with a couple addons. Namely Grid and ClassTimer.

For some reason, these two addons are resetting every time I log out/exit from WoW. No matter how I change the settings, I log back in to find Grid in its beginning default format and ClassTimer in the middle of my screen with no saved settings.

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

In regard to GRID, how do I set up so the people that are further than 40 yards are faded?

Enabling the 40 yard range check doesnt change anything for me.

Do you have to set the out of range frame alpha level to lower than that of the in range frame?

Can anyone tell me what command accesses SharedMedia, or SharedMediaLib, or LibSharedMedia or whatever one allows me to increase the font size. I can never remember which specific addon does this, but I have all of them. I downloaded a UI from wowinterface (Evolution...very nice)...but Im old and cant read the font apparently. Help is most definitely appreciated as I cant seem to find it anywhere. Thanks.

Looking for a replacement for HoTcandy or a fix that will save the placement of the bars on the screen/bar texture. Can't seem to get them to anchor or save textures. Have tried NugRunning and Class timers but Nug doesn't show stacks and misses casts and Class Timers only show the current target's HoTs (something I have covered with unit frames).

Any ideas?

I looked at the UI Evolution was thinning she/he may be using ClearFont2 - Addons - Curse but I do not see it on the add-ons list, so the UI maybe using some other font add-on I don’t know of. You can always get ClearFont2 - Addons - Curse it will let you change all the fonts at the same time. Also if it’s just the chat font you can’t read that well Chatter - Addons - Curse (the chat add-on) can make the font better. Hope this will help.

Thanks. I'm using chatter, and it'll allow me to change font size but will revert back when I relog. Will try the other addon. Appreciate it.

Does anyone know if it is possible to skin the buttons in the spellbook (and all other frames, that use that button-graphics)?

Like that:

Unfortunately Skinner does not offer such a function...
