Hi, I'm the author of Scorchio! I took a six month sabbatical from WoW recently, and patch 2.4 totally killed my AddOn! Thanks to various people (including, on here, RoboStac), it was kept limping along, but now it's back, as good as ever. The lastest builds on files.wowace.com should work absolutely fine, and don't worry - I intend to continue support and development for Scorchio! from hereon in!

Hello,

I am a holy paladin. I used to heal with healbot and mouseover macros for HL and FoL.

I recently dropped healbot for grid. My mouseover macros dont seem to work with grid. Does anyone know why? Or how I can get them to work.

Thanks in advance.

Cleaning things up

I'd like any quick tips on what to look into with regards to optimizing or cleaing up my UI. I keep looking at the mods running and thinking "I really wouldn't want to do without the information this gives, the task this performs, etc", but perhaps there are some slick ways to streamline my UI without losing functionality I haven't considered.

For my role, I am a prot pally tank in early tier 6 content at the moment, and that should give an idea what information I need at my fingertips. Additionally, I of course heal on some raid encounters and PVP as retribution spec here and there.

The largest visible elements on my screen are:

Bongos - I have over 30 hotkeys (10+ I can hit with my left hand in normal type position, shift-versions, alt-versions, with my mouse thumb button set to act like alt- so I can hotkey everything without taking my right hand off the mouse) - hence the huge number of visible buttons.

Omen.
Chatter (chat box).
Violation (until Assessment is reborn).
SimpleMiniMap (I think).
Grid.
Elk's to show buffs/debuffs.
DotTimer for cooldowns and judgement durations.
Pitbull, slightly modified, for my unit frames.
CowTip for the tooltip.

The biggest thing that sticks out to me are the buffs. Changing them to just an icon would clean up your screen.

If you know all your hotkeys by heart, you can hide them and just use a cooldown mod like Hourglass to keep track of cooldowns. Also, you probably don't need recount visible all of the time -- just hide and show it using its fubar button.

The chat window is also really large. Do you need to have that many lines of text shown at once? You can always create another chat frame with the spammy stuff (loot, rep/honor/xp, item creation, etc) and just tuck it behind the main chat tab. I rarely care that 24 people have looted a badge of justice.

First. I'd scrap that buff addon and get something that only shows icons while being configurable at the same time. I'd recommend Satrina's Buff Frames for buff displaying. (Get it from Wowinterface)

Second. As a prot pally you don't really need to see who's doing the most damage. I'd turn off the damage meter window entirely. (Fx. I'm a holy priest and I don't even have a damage meter addon.)

Third. You could probably stand cutting the chat frame into half. It's simply too big.

Fourth. Clean up those action bars! What I like to do is keep my main spells on bar nr. 1, secondary spells on bar nr. 2 (damage spells in my case) and then the rest goes on sized down bars on the sides (spells I use a. infrequently such as mind vision or b. mostly out of combat such as buffs)

Fifth. Size down the minimap and move it to the lower right corner and move Omen above that, and then make Omen's background see through so you gain screen space when you're out of combat.

My UI can be seen here:

Thanks for all the great feedback so far. It all seems so clear when folks say it.

If I completely hide the bar in Bongos, will the hotkey still work? I had assumed that the hotkeys wouldn't work unless the bar is shown and clickable.

I wouldn't need more than a couple of small rows of buttons visible if I can hide the rest.

As long as you don't _disable_ the bar, the hotkeys should work with the bar hidden.

Hi, i'm having problems with Shared Media: i've added some textures with MyMedia but they are working only for some addons like Pitbull and Aloft while i cant apply them on Quartz and Grid. Any solutions?

I'd also suggest getting rid of the reputation bar, scaling down grid and setting fubar to autohide (if there's information in fubar that you find crucial, you can always make a smaller bar that contains it).

Does anyone know of a mod, or an option in Chatter, that allows placement of the chat tabs below the chat from or if this is even possible?

Regarding the advice to change buff mod; you can easily make ElkBuffBar show just the icon and timer, and not the bars. It is by far the most customizable buff mod out there, and if you use it for other specific things like debuff tracking etc, you don't have to change it out in order to get more screenspace.

Is there a mod that will allow you to scale your chat box down smaller than default? Im currently using Prat, but I can only scale the height down to about 9 lines, and I would like to have it shorter than that, but Im not finding any options.

Chatter can scale the chat box smaller/larger than default.

I would argue Satrina's Buff Frames is more customizable. I recently discovered this and switched away from Elks/Buffalo:
Satrina Buff Frames

It can do everything Elks can do, or everything Buffalo can do, plus it has incredibly powerful filtering options and is lightweight on memory.

I've done a search, but haven't found an answer to this.

I have SharedMedia and SharedMediaAdditionalFonts, but I want to add more fonts to select from. I've already got the TTF fonts on my computer that I want to use. How do I make it so that they are an option in Pitbull, CowTip, etc? Is it as easy as dragging it into a folder or do I need to alter the lua file too? I haven't played around with it yet because I'm not savvy enough to fix it if I mess something up.

Edit: Found an answer here.

Can Satrina's buff frames stick to one another like EBB? I love the filtering system in SBF (as opposed to setting each buff manually in EBB), but having groups overlap or be too spread out is driving me nuts. Am I just overlooking a checkbox somewhere?

new UI concept?

Hey there guys, been reading for a long time, first post though. I've just been playing around with some UI concepts and decided to put one down in my spare time at work. What do you all think of this layout? I plan on using most of the standard addons, eePanels2, PitBull, Bartender, azCastBar, omniCC, simpleminimap, etc. I think you all can figure out what goes where. Let me know what you think before I go ahead and spend the time actually putting it together. Thanks!

Where will buffs go for your player, target, party? Also where will your own pet go?

Good question. I was originally thinking the buffs would be directly above the player and target frames; however, I added the party frames and sort of forgot about buffs...Perhaps I could set up some custom Dogtags to have the buffs appear inside of the frame.

As a druid I don't usually have a pet so I didn't think of even putting one in; If I were to temporarily have a pet (ala kz chess game), I suppose it could go in the center, just below the minimap.

any other constructive criticism or thoughts?

I really like that design, other than the stated problem with buffs/debuffs for party (which would primarily be a handicap in pvp.) Also, you'd have to position a focus cast bar somewhere prominent outside the center block since you will deprive yourself of a lot of focus information with that layout. Another concern is how often you really use your focus as opposed to how often you have a ToT, which may end up with a bit of a lopsided look often.

Edit: One way to fix that might be to eliminate the ToToT and ToF frames altogether and have a centered ToT between the player & target frames, and a focus below that, giving the layout a more consistently even look.

Edit: Also of note, you may want to increase the size of the player and target cast bars. I used a layout for a long time with small cast bars like that and I found it helped a lot to increase the size of them, whch would be pretty simple given their position.

I just wanted to reiterate that have the same problem. Pitbull and Aloft seem to pick up all textures, but I can't apply them on Quartz, Grid, or ElkBuffBars.

I was looking at your proposed UI and took it to paint (lolol) to mess around. I didn't do much, but added in ToT/Focus castbars and an improvised spot for buffs/debuffs. Honestly, you won't really need to see your ToToT, and if you're really broken up about focus target, you could stick it under the map? I know you said you would put pets there but honestly you probably won't have a pet and a focus target at the same time; I know as a healer the only time I use focus is on Felmyst so I can see gas nova.

Quick question though: where does raid go? I figured maybe under your action bars, but that seems a little jumbled...does it replace party? Line down the side?

Here's my simple idea:
