Trouble with Kerp's UI

Hey, running into screen resolution problem I haven't seen before. I downloaded Kerp's UI off of LR's forums (1280x1024) and ran the WAU to get everything up to date. So my questions are:

- Am I able to max the resolution to fill the black? If it allows to customize the resolution, it would be neat to have the bottom of the game screen where the top of the skinner bottom bar is so I have a full view (but if not, beggars can't be choosers).

- I haven't found an option to make skinner bottom bar longer to cover the whole bottom. Going into Skinner -> Bottom Bar -> Width and maxing it didn't change a thing

Appreciate any feedback, really look forward to trying this one out

*Forgot to add I currently play at 1680x1050

Might want to check for ct_viewport or aperture, both of those could be responsible for the resizing you see. The bottom bar looks like a custom texture made specifically for the resolution the ui pack's author uses, so I don't think you are going to have any luck stretching it without editing the image file.

CT viewport worked perfectly!
I actually found out the textures were just global settings from creating a new EEPanel.. so it looks great now.. let the modding begin

Recently, I upgraded from a 1280x800 resolution 13" laptop to a 22" widescreen lcd monitor + desktop. I decided then that I would invest in building a UI from scratch rather than attempting to adapt all of the old configs to the much larger monitor.

Basically, the issue I'm running into now is placing everything in a functional and attractive manner. As most people have done here on the EJ forums, adapting styles and ideas from Tapestry, Halcyon, Saeto, Caith, etc., is definitely evident in what I have already done.

My old ui is below. It was functional and looked alright. Far from the prettiest but I felt it was good enough for my needs at the time.

I began work yesterday, which resulted in this monstrosity. Lol. Needless to say it's somewhat of a huge mess.

So I sat down this morning and made a rather crude mockup of something that may work.

Yet, I am still not satisfied with the whole plan thus far. What I'm asking for is some suggestions on what to DO with everything on the screen. I've never had this much visual real estate to work with, and it's somewhat daunting. Thanks in advance for any input.

I think the advantage of that much screen real estate is that more of it is free for you to see the game you play .

Can someone tell me how to anchor a eePanel to the Battleground map so that when I am in a battleground the panel is visible and when I am not, it's not. Basically when the BG minimap is visible it is and when it's not it isn't.

So I have some really basic questions but I searched and I really don't know the answer. I'm new to most of the coding and more advanced techniques of customizing user interfaces.

1. Do all you code your own UI or simply tweak exisiting AddOns?

2. Is art on certain UIs, such as in the "Post Your 2.2 UI", custom coded or tweaked? (This one is sort of a follow up of the first question.)

3. What is "parenting" and what is it's usage?

4. What does copying WTF folders do for UIs?

Any helps is greatly appreciated. I hope that I can start making my own UIs in the near future.

1. Most people (I am one of these) modify existing addons to suit their needs: most addons, or most popular addons at least, have a lot of settings that can be changed to alter the way the addon looks or works.

2. I think most decorative art is designed by the user in photoshop or whatever, as I've never found a good site for downloading any. I'm not really sure what you mean by art, though.

3. I know that parenting is something that Eepanels does: you can attach one frame to another and have it conform to the original frames size/position/state of existance etc.

4. WTF folders are where addons save all their settings to when you log out, so by copying another user's WTF folder you can use all their addon settings and have an addon that looks like theirs (as long as your screen resolutions are the same.)

Thanks a lot and 2 more questions.

1. What is a library?

2. Is Rock just another AddOn organization tool like Ace2 but cleaner?

1. A Library is like backbone code for a certain task (like the Threat-1.0 lib is for getting threat data) used by addons so they don't have to write their own code every time. Makes addon writing a lot easier.

2. Rock is the Framework for Ckknight's addons like PitBull, Parrot, CowTip, etc. Similar to the way ace addons work. Unless you're an addon developer I wouldn't worry about the difference between the two, rock has it's own inbuilt configuration menu which looks one way and ace has a different "waterfall" config for it's addons. That's about all the difference there is.

I'm running into a problem with clicking on frames (and buttons) in my UI. If there's a targetable mob behind a frame or button, when I try and click on the frame, I'll target the mob instead.

I've run into this with Trinity and Bartender and also the in-game ready check and loot windows. The only way I've found to work around this is to spin until there's no longer a mob in front of me.

I don't think this is related to an addon (the only one I'd suspect is Clique and I disabled it) because it affects the blizzard frames as well.

I'd like some advice for:
- cleaning up my UI visually
- reducing the memory load

I recently moved my gaming resolution from 1280x1024 to 1024x768 when I switched to my laptop and am struggling to get a 'clean' look while still presenting appropriate information.

Also, I've rarely met a UI mod I didn't like, and this leads to UI bloat as I add in things that I like, leading me to sometimes hit 100 MB used (granted, much of this is Auctioneer Advanced).

I also play two characters (40s Paladin and a 70 Mage) and thus value a consistent layout between the two characters.

Here's a SS of my current layout in arena on my mage.

To me it feels uncomfortably cramped, since it has all the elements I was used to from the higher resolution, but because I'm running at a lower resolution, there's much less viewport available.

Any suggestions on what I can cut or how to rearrange things to make them cleaner?

Edit: Mods I run (just did a dir /b > list.txt in my addons directory)

What's the name of that little addon which makes a grid to your screen? Found out I've deleted it and cant remember the name. :/

1) I know my key bindings, what am I doing with all these bars?
2) What's essential, and what do I rarely use?

You could start by creating a bar of unbound "essentials" such as pots, stones, trinkets, professions, portals. You could then either make that bar small and unobtrusive (easy with Bartender3). You could even consider a mod, the name escapes me at the moment, which makes the bar visible only on mouseover if a certain key is pressed.

For a start, start using UI scaling, it's essential at your resolution. Remove anything you don't need. Pitbull would be a great start for condensing and resizing player/target/focus/party frames.

I can't give you a recipe for success obviously, but the best advice is to remember less is more, even if you like a mod, try to evaluate what it does for you, if it's just "pretty" then it may be worth dropping.

A good example of a minimalist mage UI should leave a ton of open space. My own UI is certainly not spectacular, but I tend to aim for lower memory use, if you want to see it you can search it i'm sure. Good luck.

To alcaras:

- Scale your UI

- Hide action bars you don't require for them to be visible and use CooldownCount2 to watch your CDs (you can bind keys directly to the Spell Book and create a hidden a bar for your macros)

- FuBar to get rid of the clutter on the minimap; Squeenix/simpleMinimap to modify it to your liking; bind it to a key so you can hide and show it when the need arises

- Get rid of add-ons you don't really need, like, Grid or AloftPresets or the extra cyCircled skins to reduce the load

- Hide modules you don't really require to see the whole time, like the XP bar or the main menu

- Buffalo or ElkBuffBars to tidy up your buffs

- Sort your unit frames out - for example, do you really have the extra space to waste for portraits or the castbars of your party members? PitBull's got a lot of other nifty options like hiding yourself in party, resizing buff icons etc.
