I received an infraction for linking the Futura font by itself. Other packages I've seen here have plainly used other typefaces as "full versions of commercial software." Recount, for instance, contains Adobe's Myriad Pro, Pitbull has Bitstream's Vera Serif, the SharedMedia package has a Monotype Typography font, and so on.

As the use is non-commercial and satisfies the requirements of fair use law I figured it was fine, but now that I was punished I can't seem to make sense of the policy. Does a mod have to be included? I can write a custom ClearFont include module for Futura in a few minutes if that would make it alright.

Can anyone clarify?

Bitstream Vera fonts are freely redistributable by license (for non-commercial use).

The only font Recount contains is ABF, as far as I can see.

SharedMedia does have a Monotype font. This is probably something that should be fixed.

Honestly the difference between those and this? No one knows SharedMedia contains a copyrighted font. Linking directly to Futura, on the other hand, is pretty blatant.

There are innumerable free fonts on the interwebs, some of which were designed to look extremely similar to the popular commercial fonts. If you like the look of a font, I'd suggest you take that route.

"ABF.ttf" is Myriad Condensed, and a commercial font, AFAIK

I have the fonts I need. I was talking about where I had provided a link to be helpful for someone asking about a UI font, not a personal desire for anything.

Well a general purpose addon like SharedMedia might be an oversight, but some of the UI compilations where the intent of the downloader is to copy that style precisely, down to borders, statusbars, and fonts, is kind of explicit I think.

Without that, I think its fair to say it would look pretty different/change the "feel," so it is included in a Clearfont add-on module like I was discussing doing

The difference is that the content of those posts does not solely consist of a link to a commercial font, and is unfortunately not as easily spotted as your post was. I do not think it is acceptable for people to be posting fonts etc that do not have licenses that allow for free distribution, but they are more difficult to police.

Perhaps a sticky indicating that it is not okay to distribute non-free stuff is in order.

Edit: I would rather not see the guild mates who run this forum get into trouble for having copyright material posted, regardless of if they are aware of it or not.
