Just to ramble about this a bit... I've been playing with transparency quite a lot and seeing what works and what doesn't. I've also changed the growth direction of the unit frames left of center, kind of like old fighting games would have it setup, except in this case the bars are clear and only the missing amount of hp/power are shown. My mana bar text tells me how many Shadow Bolts I have enough mana to cast (lol, destro) since thats really what I'm thinking about when I look at that number anyways. The buff icons are also semi-sorted now, easier for me to see which ones I need to put up each fight. Debuff icons are above the player frame.
I can't say I'm release ready, but this is where I'm headed for OOMMui3. I'd like to find a new font for this version and make a custom texture that'll look a little better.
(Perhaps I'll edit this post tomorrow and add a raid combat shot.)
After reading for months this topic, here is my own interface [\o/].
GOAL
The improvement of my UI was driven by the objective to perform in PvP as an Enhancement Shaman. I had to have at the same time a very clear UI and all the most important information.
INSPIRATION
Definitely RothUI, my UI is just a tweaking of his great job.
ADDONS
What you see
→ Aloft : Nameplates (pTags wasn't filling my needs)
→ AzCastBar
→ Bongos3
→ cyCircled
→ EavesDrop
→ Fane
→ pChat
→ LynStats
→ MikScrollingBattleText
→ rBuffs
→ rUnits
→ StatBlocks
→ Cooling2
What you don't see
→ ArenaHistory
→ Proximo
→ Grid
→ Baggins
→ DRTracker
→ Afflicted
→ oTweaks
→ SpellAlerter
I like what you are going for, and to really set it off you should try aligning all the middle elements.
I'd start with your player unitframe, and align everything from there. Having your debuff timer and whatever the other timer is different widths really throws it off.
Addons that you can see being used:
Grid
DBM
Shaman Friend (Now known as Enhancer)
TotemTimers
Recount
simpleMinimap
Omen
Buffalo
cyCircled
Parrot
Bartender3
Quartz
I am willing to send it packaged up just ask for it in a PM!
I don't mean to criticize...
But with such an elaborated UI, yet you are still using blizzard default unit frames...

Instead of filling your bars with a million totems, might I reccommend to you a totembar addon, like for instance YaTa? You'll be able to save a bit of space by removing those totems from your bars...Yata can also give you some nice totem timers with totem cooldowns integrated.
Also, there's a new "cycircled" on the block, it's called ButtonFacade and it's much easier for bar-addon makers to support, meaning many will soon stop supporting CyCircled, so you might want to switch to that.
Few tweaks here and there need to be made, but I'm pretty satisfied with what I'm running now. I may replace this with a screenshot during a raid to display raid mods such as BigWigs etc but I usually forget to take SSs during bosses.
The layout isn't any different in groups or raids, the only thing that changes is the Grid layout.
I have SCT enabled, but the locations for the messages are pretty much the default ones so you can just use your imagination :P the Pitbull "combat" texts appear above the frames. As you can probably see, I go for the most minimalist UI I can while still having all the needed information visible. Omen is not visible because I'm a healer and I don't really need it. But placing Omen and say, Recount would be pretty easy, just extend the frame to the sides and add them to where my buffs are located at the moment. That is all.

Thanks for your interest with my UI.
I used Yata a long time ago but now, I have all my totems binded either on my keyboard or my mouse. But I agree with you, someone new to the class or someone who clicks on his abilities would have a lot of interest with an addon like Yata. Cooling2 provides all totems cooldown in a very smart way, it's sufficient for me.
Thanks a lot for the tip with ButtonFacade, I will update my UI asap with this.
This is my current UI, barring a few very minor changes. I'm not including an Addon SS, as I don't have one taken, but if there's any interest I will be more than happy to go make one. C/C is always welcome.
Another version of NoUI. Since I don't upload them (that means NO UPLOADS, boys and girls), I've lost count of what version it is. Well well, this will probably be my last creation for a while due to the coming summer vacation, but I hope to be back stronger than ever in August of something.
Idle first:
Idle combat - with a slightly bugged Omen2 that's made to be shown full of bars and not only with 2. When proper, it'll reach to the bottom and be equal to the minimap in shape and size.
And raid, without any Omen frame. This one also shows focus target (above where Omen2 is supposed to be):
Unfortunately, I am so used to having my action bars and all other information in the center that I cannot get used to playing with them in any other position. Functional, yet ugly.
Addons that you see:
EEPanels
Pitbull ( texture is Hal B and the font is Featured )
Prat
SimpleMinimap
SLTimex
ClassTimers
Buffalo
Bartender3
GoodDamageFont ( the font is Hotel Coral Essex.ttf )
MiniAttack Power
Aloft
And finally Recount, Recap, Omen and DBM
Addons you dont see are MSBT, Autobar and Hemlock for poisons as well as Skinner and Cowtip.
Edit: I wont be uploading this im afraid. If you have any questions about specific layouts or if you want the layout code for importing into Pitbull then feel free to PM me.
The bar at the bottom is really simple to make and is just a single EEPanel with the background as a gradient. A couple minutes playing around with two gradients in EEPanels should result in the desired effect.
I have redone my UI, since the other one was hurting my eyes .
took some of the elements out of Iscariot's UI, still need to add a few stuff, including a HUD.
My general design principle is to keep important stuff centered and at the bottom of the screen, which is where my eyes tend to hover on their own. Information that I don't often need during combat has been relegated to the top corner of the screen, and a large, wide area is open to see the game world. Omen (and my trap timer bar, which isn't in the SS) cover up part of guild chat, because I shouldn't be distracted by it while fighting anyway. The Demon-like line of debuff indicators above the target frame is simply a pitbull text.
I have a few clever UI tricks that I'm proud of. I don't need to see my name or my class on the player frame, so i've replaced them with a display of my AP, Crit, and Shot speed (this is PowerDisplay, with the appearance modified via lua), and an indicator of how many mp5 Aspect of the Viper would give if I turned it on (this is a clever dogtag). My main elk buff bars are long buffs (> 10 mins) at the top, and separate lists for timeless buffs and <10 min buffs plus all debuffs below the player frame. On the right side, target debuffs that are important to me are shown separately. Even as a hunter, I use Click2Cast along with main-tank and raid frames for Misdirection and Scorpid Sting (which are bound to the same button, and selected based on the hostility of the target).
The one piece of the UI that I'm not terribly happy with is the button bank below the target frame. Those are mostly cooldown abilities and items, so having buttons serves as both a way to activate them and monitor the cooldowns. However, just about everything else in the UI is bars, which I like better than icons and text. Anyone have a good way to track cooldowns as bars and a space-saving way to activate them?
All the standard ace players: Pitbull, Grid, Quartz, Prat, eePanels, Bartender, ElkBuffBars (this is probably my favorite mod in the world - I have 8 buff groups), Omen, Chinchilla, FuBar, Parrot, CowTip (very customized, I can post screenshots and the dogtags if anyone cares).
Fubar modules (Yay, zero minimap buttons!):
Bottom left bar: MoneyFu, MailFu, GuildFu, FriendsFu, QuestsFu
Bottom right bar: oRA2, BigBrother, CCBreaker, Outfitter, AmmoFu, DurabilityFu, BagFu
Above minimap: PerformanceFu
Below minimap: TrackerFu, BattlegroundFu, Addon Prefs, BugSack, ClockFu
In a group/raid, Omen is displayed when in combat and Recount is displayed when out of combat. Casting bars are class-colored if the target isn't an NPC, otherwise they use the player's class color.
I'm not going to upload anything so don't send me 100 PM's saying "plssss upload UI!!!!" please. If you want to know how I did something feel free to ask and I'll respond when I have time but I'm not uploading, sorry.
I'll add an group shot as soon as i can. It goes beyond the player frame (square layout).
Normally, actionbars are hidden and castbars positioned there, the shot shows the default layout that i use on twinks (Yeah, i'm to old to remember keybindings for more than my main! )
