Here's my UI via fraps: YouTube - Vis Maior - Sarth 10 Man 3D (Resto Shaman POV)

It's from back in December but I've only made minor cosmetic changes since then. Watch in HD / Fullscreen to really see everything in action.

Got a few PM's asking for an upload: http://www.vismaior.org/images/misc/sixthyui.rar

My very minimal, but totally functional UI.

Some custom art and the following addons:

[edit]: I've had lots of questions about the black and white icons.

Here is what you do:

All in game icons can be downloaded at the following url: WoWWiki:WoW Icons - WoWWiki

1. Find the ones you need or want to use and download/save the images as is on the webpage. These icons need to be the correct size or WoW will not recognize them... I forget the exact size, it's been a while. The default size you download them as is correct.

2. Open up Photoshop or your weapon of choice, desaturate the image (I also add -20% contrast) and then save it as a .tga file with a number ranging from 1-whatever and keep the original size. You will end up with files called 1.tga, 2.tga, 3.tga, etc. I never looked into this further, but if you name the files something else they will not work. Consecutive numbers seem to be the way to go.

3. Create a folder in your WoW/Interface directory named Icons. All the icons you want to use will go in here.

4. Reload WoW (this must be done each time you want to add a new icon - might have changed, but it's been a while) and then your icons will be available in your macro configuration window.

5. Create a macro using the icon of your choice, place it on your visible action bar and there you go, custom icons.

I haven't seen anyone do this before (maybe I just missed it) and I've been doing it for a good year or so, so I'm very interested in what people come up with.

Remember you have a limited amount of macros you can create using a custom icon (unless there is a mod that allows more?) so choose wisely. I have an additional 3 bars on the right side of my screen hidden from view, all keybound, to create a cleaner appearance. These are all colored since you do not see them so they don't take away from the Undead...ish look I try to achieve with my UI.

That about covers it. If I've missed anything feel free to PM me on these forums. I'll update my post.

With 3.1 on the way and many UI mod changes incoming, I will probably redo the whole thing from scratch. If I offer an upload I'll post it here on EJ.

Cheers

Ishtara, how do you plan on creating those psychedelic color transitions? A black-to-white gradient as the bar texture might produce something similar to the warlock bar that you show, but I wouldn't think it would result in the green-orange effect you have for the hunter.

The idea you gave me is that you could use a black-to-white gradient as the bar texture for Pitbull, and have a solid-color panel behind the bar that changes colors depending on class or even HP percentage). Are those supposed to work that way?

He doesn't plan on creating, they are already created. It's just a panel gradient with different colors at each end of the frame. You could make them any color you want. They don't change with health percentage. I'm not 100% sure how much work it would take to do that.

Ah, I see. For some reason, I just assumed that Pitbull was providing some color. That's clever. Of course, Pitbull doesn't provide the sort of magic transparency that I was thinking about.

This is the closest (and least ugly) attempt at achieving a HP-dependent color + gradient combination. I used a vertical gradient instead of a horizontal one. A good old-fashioned near-black deficit looks better, but it was fun to try.

@Cemetary - I really like your UI set up. Job -very- well done.

For the (slightly off-topic) record, I'm also getting Aloft errors with the most recent version.

My 1280x1024 UI

Here is my WIP 1280x1024 UI. The focus is on keeping any information I need visible while trying to keep it clean. I think I'm failing at the latter aim so any suggestions would be most welcome.

If you want a more minimalistic UI you need to hide things that aren't absolutely necessary.

Some examples could be taking away the bars for your buffs/debuffs, removing things like fubar which are only there to make accessing addons easier, removing large panels and only panel things that really need it, hiding your buttons esp. ones that are hotkeyed.

It seems like you have a couple mods that are running on default settings, go in and explore some of the little bells and whistles they have... see what you like and what looks good and start blending other addons with it so that you achieve a uniformed setup.

Every addon should have its own distinct spot in your UI. This keeps confusion down and lets you concentrate more on the game.

That UI looks very good - I love the textures. The text on the Unit Frames/Quartz seems a bit too much, though. I'd drop the percent values from the UFs, put absolute values on every frame where there isn't one, and maybe drop the total cast time and the icons from Quartz. The rested icon on your unit frames seems useless, too.

And now for a ranty opinion. Collapsed chat frames are backward, functionally speaking. They don't offer you much other than "screenshot appeal." If you want more real estate from your chat frames, just scale them down.

Overall it's definitely one of the best UIs I've seen, in terms of aesthetics. I'll definitely try it out.

The Screenshots

I'll explain a little first how and why I set things up as they are.

In the first screenshot you can see my UI fully in action in a raid setting.
  • In the first screenshot you can see my UI fully in action in a raid setting.
  • I wanted the player frames close to the action bars as both health and skill cooldowns are important for a tank.
  • For debuffs I chose to list them twice for convenience. As always they show up in the classic buff frame position, but I also modified pitbull to show them beneath my player frame on the right side so I can notice quickly when I got a specific debuff(you see the heroism debuff in the first screenshot).
  • On the left side beneath my player you can see my specific important buffs like trinket activations, last stand, shield wall etc. This is done by a filter in pitbull and I added extra buffs that aren't incorporated in Pitbull by default.
  • In the 2nd screenshot you can see Sartharion casting his breath ability. The player and pet frames have the same castbar style, however with a "time left/total cast time" text instead of the target's name you see on the target frame.
  • In the 3rd screenshot you can see my focus frame on the right side. The cast bar for this frame shows up in the middle as a big bar you simply can't miss. :P (also check the player cast bar in this screenshot). The pet frame is on the right side of my player frame, identical to the focus frame.
  • Above my player frame you see a weird type of buff/debuff bar. The left side of this bar tracks my Commanding and Battle Shout buffs(both acquired from myself and others). The right side tracks debuffs on my current target like Sunder Armor, Demorilizing Shout etc. This bar can be used for any class, but requires .lua editing to put in the skills you want to track so it may be hard to setup if you have absolutely no clue about this (mod name is rFilter).
  • I normally show the pet bar at the same position as the rFilter bar as mentioned above. This is because I don't have any pets on the classes where I use this bar. ;-)
  • As for raid frames I chose to use Grid and configured it now properly next to my minimap. It shows health dificit, debuffs, mana etc. The main tanks are listed under the minimap. Next to the main tank window you see player cooldowns like druid battle rezzes or shaman self-rezzes.

DOWNLOAD LINK OVER HERE

Before downloading, make sure you back-up your Interface, Font and WTF folders. Then remove them from your game folder. Now you can extract the .rar file you just downloaded straight into your WoW directory. Go into "WTF/Account": Here you modify the folder "ACCOUNTNAME" to your own account name. Enter this folder and now rename the "SERVERNAME" folder to probably Doomhammer. In the Doomhammer folder you now rename the folder "Charname" to your own character's name. For additional characters, create a new folder with their character name, and copy all the files from the "Charname" folder into the new one.

Edit: If you have a rogue or mage, you can use the Magecharname or Roguecharname folders instead and leave the Charname folder for other characters.

You're now good to enter the game. Check that "enable out of date addons" is enabled.

Once you've logged in it'll be very messy. That is because you need to set up a few profiles.

- First type /dominos. Go to profiles and select the Default profile.
- Go to /Omen > profiles, select the Default profile.
- Go to /Sexymap > profiles, select the "DefaultMap" profile, NOT Default.
- Go to /Eavesdrop > profiles, select the Default profile (under "existing profiles").

You're now ready to rock if you are a melee class.

If you are a mana user there is one more thing you'll have to do:
Type /pitbull and go into profiles. Click the profile named Mage (melee classes use the Warrior profile). Now instead of the power number on the right of your player frame, you'll see a certain number and an X. Inside the Pitbull config window, go to Player > Text > Power. In the Custum field it will say "[Floor(MP / 463)]x". You can edit the number 463 to the mana cost of your main nuke spell. For instance for a warlock you could set it to Shadowbolt's mana cost. Now in the player frame it will show you how many more times you can cast this spell before you run out of mana. If you rather keep the normal showing of your mana, then stick to the warrior profile.

Credit for the basic idea of the unit frames goes to Oomm.
