To start with some background, it was around patch 2.1/2.2 we all celebrating at Blizzards success at killing off gold spammers. I (like thousands of other users) was a grateful user of SpamSentry, and the gift of clean chat it gave us all. It was the patch that made me finally remove out (it just wasn't needed at all). Ofcourse good things never last.. they figured out new ways of irritating us, and being somewhat reluctant to re-install SpamSentry, I decided to just make my own.

BadBoy is created, with simple goals: "Remove that spam from my screen, forever" & "**** off asking me about reporting it". I wanted something I could Set and Forget, no fancy GUI's, no "Are you sure?". Just do it so I don't have to think about it.

Why would an Anti-Spam addon be my favourite addon? The addon's lifeline is the community that report the spam. Having started this thread with a page count recently hitting 49, it really showed:

• How pissed off people were
• How a community can improve an addon for everyone in the most simple way

Although a tad over a year old, BadBoy has only recently gained popularity, probably due to the lower development time spent on popular addons such as SpamSentry & SpamMeNot, having recently reached around 1k hits a day which I'm quite surprised with, bearing in mind it's purpose.

Being quite "thirsty" to "do more" with it, it's recently become a lineup of addons with set purposes, mainly:

• BadBoy
• BadBoy_Levels
• BadBoy_CCleaner

...each with it's on purpose and goal, making the "BadBoy series" an attempt for users to regain control of their chat, and flush out the insects that seem to infect it.

So where do you come into it? I'm basically just looking for simple user input.

Wether you use it:
How could they be improved? What would you like to see added? What suggestions do you have?

Or don't use it:
What kind of control do you want in chat? Are you happy with just ignoring the spam yourself, or do you want to help Blizz tackle it? Do you use something else? Do you prefer it?

Not being raid addons, they are not very popular, but input is always appreciated, thanks.

One problem I`ve been having with BadBoy is that it`s blocking /played on my alt but only on him. I have no addon enabled on that character that I`m not using on my main.

I have to say that doesn't sound normal, nor does it have code to actually do that. I realize you've stated you use the same addons on both characters, but could you tell me if the issue still remains if BadBoy is the only loaded addon?

Also, are you running silent mode?

Are you sure you haven't disabled the SYSTEM chat "channel" on your alt? Since that channel isn't used much, you might not notice it.

The one thing that annoys me, beyond what your suite already covers, is the misuse of trade chat by people advertising for things that aren't actually for trade. The main annoyance for me is guild adverts or excessive LFG/LFM/LFBoost etc. At various times I've gone so far as completely ignoring excessive advertisers like this, but I've then run into problems when the same people are running Wintergrasp groups, or Argent Tournament daily groups..

What I'd personally like is an addon that allowed me to put people on ignore for the trade channel only. In my mind I envisage an option on the right click of a player's name in chat that said 'Trade Ignore', which would add them to a saved list and would filter out everything they said in trade chat. A page on the addon options would show a list of ignored people, and perhaps the message that caused them to be ignored, with an option to remove them. Perhaps an additional option to remove people automatically after a period of time.

This would obviously only effect trade chat, so anything else involving that person; group invites, trades, whispers etc would still all work fine, I'd just be able to go afk in a major city for more than 5 minutes without trade filling up my whole chat log.

I presume you want to save your chat log for guild chat or whispers, i had the same problem. What i did was make two chat windows, one for all chat channels, and one where i have blocked out general chat / trade chat etc, so that only whispers and guild chat is saved in that channel, this can be easily done using the blizzard chat frames, just uncheck trade chat and general chat in the new chat window you make.
