Played around with swapping during combat last night outside Karazhan. No problem (with both myself and several members put into combat). Once inside Karazhan, once again, I could not swap people. Hmm. I don't have many mods that become active in a situation like that, that isn't already. BigWigs, is the only thing that comes immediately to mind.
Another officer attempted to swap outside, and could as well. Once inside, he could not. He also has BigWigs, but uses CTRA.
As for the raid setup, I still use RaidRestore ( http://wow-en.curse-gaming.com/files...raid-restore/), with local fixes to get it working on 2.x.x. (Lua changes, nothing changed for functionality, though, I may have to enable paladins (being horde), not sure as I haven't looked into it yet).

There was a post in the Gruul thread regarding swapping people in combat, and it reminded me of this thread. I still can't get people moved around in combat. I basically gave up for a while, but now my rage has been refueled, as I also saw the Curse video of Morogrim had hotswapping in it. Did anyone find a solution to this problem?

I've read in the UI forums that if a mod makes changes to the default Blizzard raid window, the UI considers that window "tainted" and will no longer allow you to move those frames in combat. CTRA is one such mod, I believe - after disabling CTRA I can again move members around mid-fight.

Would this include a mod such as Skinner? Where it changes the background textures of all your windows?

It's very possible. Either that or something like Clique depending of how it handles clicks on character names in the raid window.
These two are the only addons from the list in the OP that I don't use and I never had problems with moving people in mid fight.

Hmm, well, I do not use Skinner, nor Clique. Let's see what else I do not have that is in the original list:
!!Warmup
ElkBuffBar
(Various FuBar plugins)
GMail
GotWood
Grid
HealPoints
ItemRack
OneBag
Prat
WitchHunt
There, none of the above are used by me, and I still (as of last night's Karazhan) cannot swap during combat. Interestingly, after dragging some folks around, and making someone else leader, I do notice some changes in groups, but I've never been able to consistently notice what the pattern is (it never seems to match any of my attempted swaps).
Of course, this approach of elimination is assuming that a single mod we have in common is causing this. I dunno, just trying to figure this out.

I haven't stopped using any mods -- just updated with new WAU versions regularly -- and at some point I started being able to swap parties midfight again. Go figure.
I can't open my spellbook in combat though -- the only mod I can think of that touches my spellbook directly would be Clique, but don't a million people use that?

Is it a feature of the blizzard UI now that you can't even target someone by clicking on their name in the Raid window? If not, I'm going to have to find out how to use the Ace Taint checker. http://wowace.com/wiki/TaintChecker is the link. I haven't had time to check it out yet though

Yes. There were a lot of taint issues with it, and when tainted the raid frame wouldn't work at all in combat.

I can swap parties mid-fight.
I don't use Clique and I cannot access my spellbook during combat either, and it has been that way for a few weeks.

Thanks for the link to TaintChecker. I'll give that a go.
I wonder .. I use Raid Restore fairly often, and I only made it "work" with WoW 2.0.x, I didn't clean any of the code up. Hmm. Will try disabling that tonight.
I also update nightly with WAU, so I would assume any taint issues by Ace2 mods have long been fixed. But, with TaintChecker tonight, I hope to prove that one way or another.
I haven't tried the spellbook thing during combat, but can give it a go & give some feedback at least. After work, unfortunately.

I sat in Durotar for about 30 mins today turning on and off mods trying to figure it out. I never had the spellbook locking issue, just was never able to change groups in combat. I isolated it to Improved Error Frame, which is funny because none of you guys are using it. I messed with TaintChecker after testing group swaps with Improved Error Frame on and off. Taint Checker spit out lines and lines of this:
RAID_CLASS_COLORS["WARLOCK"]["b"] now tainted.
GREEN_FONT_COLOR now tainted.

Related to this, has anyone had difficulty opening the arena panel. I can open the PVP panel just fine but when I click on the individual team the whole thing goes away. Any advice as to what may be causing this?

I have the same issue in-game, have not idea what is causing that to happen. At least my personal Arena stats show properly.

I had the same problem in my raids but simply updating ALL mods eventually fixed the issue. (Like you, I didnt really want to spend the time to sift through 20 mods or so :P)
The spellbook being blocked is completly intended by Blizzard and has already been confirmed.
> EDIT
Just last night, and all week I swapped for Bloodlust, dead players, Mana Tide many times and never had the problem. Update ALL your mods and the problem will be fixed.

I noticed this issue recently, after i finally got around to joining an arena team, and eventually narrowed it down to Extended QuestLog (god alone knows how a quest log mod is screwing with the arena team panel, but disabling it fixed the problem). For now i've just disabled it on my main, and left it enabled on my lowbie alts (since pretty much the only quests i've got left on my main are the heroic trials/SSC key quest/etc, and i'm obviously not arena'ing with my alts).

In that case I must somehow be unwittingly exploiting, as I can open my spell book without issue in combat.

What about opening bags in combat? I get an error (from MoveAnything, I think) when I do that, and instead of all bags opening only the main backpack does.

Just to give a bit more information on what definitely isn't causing it, I'm fully able to open the raid frame and swap people in combat, aswell as being able to open bags and spellbook in combat.
List of mods is:
Buggrabber/Bugsack
Wowhead Looter
Ace2
Acedruidbar
Ag_Uf and Layouts
Allplayed
Bartender3
Bigwigs
Buffalo
Cartographer
CBRipoff
Closetgnome
DFilter
Deucecommander
DynRepBar
eePanels
Fubar+FuXP
Grid+Side indicators
Hotcandy
Inflight
KTM
Lithetooltip
Nabufivesec
ORA2
Parserlib
Recap
SCT+SCTD+menus
I've never had any problems with moving people in raids, opening frames or bags, and have been using all of those mods since the start of TBC and using WAU regularly.

Update your "bag" mods.
If MoveAnything is causing an error, then updating it to its lateast version might be a good idea. If it doesnt have an update then I suggest trying OneBag, OneBank instead.

I used to see the bug with Social Panel going haywire and Spell Book panel as well. It was random occurence too. Hitting ESC a few times would allow me to open both in combat or out. My issue was that if I were to open and panel from Character to Social and Spell Book it would go invisible while staying open.
I think I will try and get rid of more mods tonight and maybe even switch to RDX5 now named RDX10 which is still free. It allows for all things bigwigs/ora2 do. I can even not install boss mods from RDX10 and go with DeadlyBoss Mods which I like better anyways due to the fact that it has auto-responder built in. Here's a link to RDX10 if you're interested(hasn't been updated with boss mods for TBC as they are waiting for 2.1.0 patch so use bigwigs or deadly boss mods): http://rdx.emoemu.com/downloads

I'm not entirely sure, as I've never ran into this problem, but at one point and time I was told that if you had any old CTRA/possibly ORA files in your .wtf folder yet, they can cause this problem. It might be worth checking.

I got my group swapping functioning by disabling !ImprovedErrorFrame. I'm curious what reasoning modders have for having the ! in front of the name. Is it purely for alphabetical sorting to get their mod to the top?

The ! makes it load earlier as well. I believe they are loaded alphabetically. Mods that deal with others--error catchers, font mods, the like--are generally the ones you'll see with those in the name. I haven't run into any cases where it seems an author has named the mod with a ! to get it to show up earlier on the list for vanity reasons. I'm sure some exist though.
