Your post is anecdotal post of uselessness that never answers the question asked "can it be used there".

Basically if you ever come across the thought that smoke bomb might work on an encounter to avoid something, don't. One of the things that I do is basically pop smoke bomb on every encounter just for fun and talk about how useless it is, it has so far never worked to avoid a single mechanic on any of the encounters thus far.
