Combat isn't far and away better than assasination, and when you're more comfortable as assasination, and (if) your gear is optimalized towards assasination, you shouldn't be surprised that you come out ahead with it. And even disregarding all of that, if you look at two parses by the same rogue on the same boss, then there will be a difference in performance even with the exact same gear, specc, and raid-setup.
