Has anyone messed with a rotation when your lightning shield is capped, shocks, elemental blast, lava burst, fire elemental, ascendance, earth elemental on CD and searing totem already down?

In the provided situation, is it a DPS gain to:
-refresh Searing Totem when it's already up (and how much of the duration has to be left and how long does it have to be up afterwards, and not replaced by fire elemental/destroyed by boss mechanics)?
-use unleash elements?

Also, if you just cast lightning bolts, it is a DPS gain if you increase the distance between the boss and you, due to longer travel time, giving you the opportunity to hit earth shock, before lightning bolts hit and potentially waste rolling thunder charges.
