It seems pretty straight forward to me; kids have different issues to adults. Dealing with kids issues isn't a whole lot of fun. A lot of adults having no obligation to deal with those issues and don't really want to until they absolutely have to.
You might get lucky and find caring, sharing people who don't mind "taking you under their wing", but a lot of people simply can't be bothered taking a gamble that you don't come with kiddie baggage. They'd rather enjoy themselves in a child free environment.
There you go, now we've both justified our positions.
