I also posted this in the WoW Warlock Forums:
With the upcoming 2.4 patch promoting Haste as a new primary stat along side spell damage, and severely lessening the amounts +hit on the new Sunwell gear, it is honestly time (more so now than ever) to start looking at Spell Hit considerations for Destruction, which, since the introduction of T6+ level gear, has become the primary raid spec for Warlocks.
Since the start of World of Warcraft, the Destruction talent tree has been denied a talent providing even the slightest amount of hit rating, while every other casting class has maintained a talent that increase their main sources of damage (for example, Shadow Priests get a 10% hit talent). Even as Affliction, a Warlock's primary source of damage is their Shadow Bolt spell. When it comes to speccing for DS/SnF, we take a massive hit when it comes to choosing gear, and this becomes even more of a problem with the release of the new Sunwell loot.
Hyjal and BT have been fairly kind to us, providing us with some +hit on gear here and there, but if we wish to truly maximize our DPS (which is highly demanding especially on new fights such as Brutallus with his 11 million hit points and 6 minute enrage time), we are seriously required to focus on getting Spell Damage and Spell Haste gear, instead of focusing purely on keeping our 16% self-buffed hit rating.
Sure, we can easily lower our hit requirement to 12% if we are grouped with an Elemental Shaman (13% for Horde), but that option is not always available, and is NOT something that we should be relying on.
As a result, one of our Destruction talents simply requires a revamp to include an increased chance to hit with all Destruction spells. To be quite honest, a minor 5% Hit Chance would be an absolutely wonderful addition to, or replacement for, a talent such as Aftermath, Pyroclasm, or Cataclysm. Even supplying us with an amount such as 5% would assist us indefinitely in our Hit Rating dilemma. As it stands right now, Cataclysm is near useless (arguably it's a good talent for PvE), and Aftermath and Pyroclasm are 100% useless in a PvE setting (arguably they are good talents for PvP, but Destruction is not really the best PvP choice).
I would be interested in hearing any intellectual comments, concerns, opinions, or additions that others have to provide to this situation, and it would be nice to keep flaming at a minimum since this is a legit proposition.
Thanks in advance for any input,
Draxyl, <Might> US-Turalyon
