Inflation is a very real problem. Instead of inflating currency via multiple daily quests to pay for respecs, repairs, and consumables these issues should be addressed through appropriate game mechanics. For example, giving players two specs that can be freely switched at inns, adding more gold to respawning trash to pay for repairs, and consumable tradeins from raid/instance drops. Some of that is already in place, of course.

I can't agree more. Blizzard took the easy way out and just threw gold at everyone. What amazes me is that the ONE daily that actually gave mana potions they took away.. WTF!!! If anything that should BE the reward.... screw the gold! The Shattered Sun Supplies were a good option, but rather then just DE mats, why not have a random elixer or potion.. or even a "rare" flask??
Why can I just imagine this discussion at a Blizzard development meeting:
Dev1 - "You know raiders really have to spend a lot of time farming materials for raiding... we should do something"
Dev2 - "WOW... that's groundbreaking... we need to do something"
Dev3 (the only smart one) - "Well we could make raiding semi-self sustaining where raiders will get enough gold to pay for repairs and even have things drop within the instance that they might be able to use"
Dev1 - "No, no, no... that's far too complicated and would break our pattern of illogical action"
Dev2 - "I have it!!! Why don't we create dozens of mindless tasks that players can do each day... call them DAILIES. These would take a couple of hours to do but would provide them with an endless source of gold to buy what they need"
Dev3 - "Aren't you just substituting time spent farming the materials for the time spent to farm the gold and essentially reducing the player based to a bunch of Chinese gold farmers??"
Dev1&2 in unison: "and your point is..."
