Perhaps something to add translucency to them might be nice but only if it doesn't greatly increase resource loads.

I don't plan on removing the icons. I'd presonally have a much harder time seeing text, and I'd probably have a hard time adding text. My wow UI experience is fairly low, so If someone puts together a display demo for using text I can try to incorporate it as an option, but I probably won't code it myself.
