Okay. Now give the disc priest the same haste, plus the extra haste he gets from talents.

Get the point? Disc priests have the same gear as you, if you spec disc you get that extra haste. You're never going to have a faster cast than a disc priest, unless you outgear them.

Disc priests are better tank healers, penance is better than greater heal, and while I have no problem with holy priests who tank heal and raid heal, saying that "OMG DISC IS USELESS LOLOLOLZ" is stupid. You can tank heal as well as a disc priest on Patchwerk. Congrats, Patchwerk is serious business, have a cookie.

But don't pretend that is MATH. Disc has more throughput tank healing than holy, in 3.08, 3.09, or 3.1. It's not even really a question. If you need one of the two specs to heal a tank, 100% of the time, with no raid healing, you take a disc priest over a holy priest.

Now TBH, you don't really need the extra throughput of disc to heal the tank in any of the current content, but that's less a function of the math, and more a function of the 'difficulty.'
