It's a PvP fix for mages because all your opponent needed was to use an addon to see health values or scroll over the mages to find the real one due to the average of 3.5k hp and 5k mana on the MI. Yeah it made them lose their target on you, but not for long. Now the MIs will show your max hp and mana which gives you more PvP work room.
I have no idea as far as Arcane Subtlety goes, I had no idea that Ignite could benefit from that.

I have never understood why this even mattered. I pvp with the "V" key turned on, so i can see the health of my opponents over their heads. I also have the "Display Health Bar By Class Color" option turned on in the Interface, this makes any Mage's health bar appear in light blue, pally in pink, etc, etc.
Now, as soon as a Mage casts MI, he will spawn 3 image, and you will now be facing 4 targets, however, only the real Mage will have the light blue health bar over his head. The images, since they are NPCs, will have the standard red health bars. There is no confusion at all. You see 4 targets, 3 in red, one in blue, and u know exactly who is the real Mage.
