Deep demo is not "nerfed to zero", it simply will not benefit from totem of wrath and thus (relatively) will fall behind the other specs which do. However, with no totem of wrath and no other DP lock then it shines for raids. If it were to be competitive on DPS (with totem of wrath) then I'm not sure the other specs would stay acceptable to raid leaders: "yeah boss I know 40/31 is not more DPS but I like the play style, I don't care if the ele shaman keeps dying early".
OT: Personally I'd like to see DP (and totem of wrath) nerfed as a raid buff like iScorch was, ie. personal buff plus a smaller raid buff.
