I think this thread could be an annoying dilemma.

Like most of you, I’ve played this game since day 1 release. Again like most of you, I’ve done most of the raid content. I don’t play as serious as I once did, but I still enjoy watching the instance race to defeat encounters.

My most enjoyable “observation period” was probably the nax40 4h, when everyone was struggling to even develop a decent strat to nail the counter, let alone execute it. Since wow has begun we’ve seen moments similar to this where the more casual players get to sit back and enjoy watching the uber guilds bang heads again these extremely difficult (or poorly tuned) encounters until they can overcome them.

I wanted to ask people what their thoughts were about the “hard mode” vs guild progression is. For instance, when WOTLK came out, we saw guilds “clearing all content” in a few days. Later, they completed the hard modes. But lets say it had played differently and guild x decided to clear everything on hard mode the first time (maybe like… sard 3d + immortal)… is the guild who “cleared all content” first no longer the title holder of world first?

I’ve heard a few people mention the idea of basing everything off achievements.. and that seems reasonable, but I feel like Blizzard has gimped our ability to follow progression of new content with as much excitement in the past. Others say to use the websites that "auto-rank," but they are still limited by their design.

Let me give you one more example of the problem I am speaking of: guild A gets hung up on hard mode of boss 2, guild B also gets stuck on boss 2. Guild A decides to grind it until they can kill Boss 2 on hard mode, guild B decides to kill the boss on easy mode, and proceeds throughout the instance. Guild B clears the whole instance that week, all on hard mode, except for boss 2. Guild A, does the same thing, as well as killing boss 2 on hard mode, but 1 day later. So my question – who is the better guild? You could argue either way, and that’s a problem. Achievement-wise, Guild B will receive much greater reward for giving up on Boss 2 early.

Anyone see this an as annoying dilemma? I think I’d like to see blizzard implement some sort of way to prevent the hard modes starting in the unlocked position so we could as least keep high end progression linear. But then again, I’m a spectator these days so I’m curious what the guys who are killing the content rapidly think.
