I'm a well Respected Shadow Priest because of my dps/dmg alone. So here's a few of my opinions after reading some other threads. Starting with Talents, 13/0/58 is really the only way to go.
For Single Target DPS, VT,MB,DP,MF,SW:P is the best way to go at the start of the fight...but even more importantly, keeping all dots up on your target is priority. Especially Vamp. Touch because of the amount of dmg it does in a 15sec. period.
Now I'm a Spriest that uses SW: D But Only when I know that there is less then 2 seconds left on my "Cooldowns". The reason why is I don't wanna use MF throughtout it's full duration and let another spell just sit there. I don't wanna cut off a MF mid channel knowing I may not get the 2nd tick out of it. So using an instant Cast which will potentially do more dmg then half a Mind Flay just seems a whole lot easier and less wasteful.
I've never had mana issues. I have approx 21kmana Raid Buffed and will use my ShadowFiend when I get as low as 13k. The one thing you wanna watch for is approx when a "Heroism" is gonna be used. Your fiend will do a ton more dmg increasing your own dps but at the same time will give you anywhere from 15k-20k mana back in return. In a fight vs. Emalon, my shadowfiend was used twice...once during Heroism and that li'l bugger did just about 40,000 dmg for me and returned 30k mana in that single fight. Dispersion on the other hand I haven't had to use except when my life depended on it. so if you're worried about your dps and hate using dispersion, "Veiled Shadows" talent is awsm.
Ooo ooo, if you have a mage in your raid, have them put Focus Magic on you....Shadow Priests(even with the low crit we have) are awsm to keep that baby running. "Shadow Reach" talent is another one I LOVE having. I hate moving around during Boss Fights because that means less dps. And "Imp Vamp. Embrace" is not needed in pve. Even at 3k dps, Vamp Embarce itself is pushing 450HPS and you can PW:Shield if needed.
When we talk about AoE damage/dps. Losing the Ability of Pestilence being able to spread DP was rough cuz that was pretty l33t. But next time you're in 25man Sarth, on the first Trash mobs, DoT them all up with VT and SW:P, then follow up with a Mind Sear. With all the dots Tickin' away and Mind Sear Finishing it off, your dps will skyrocket. I could go on and on but thats just a rough draft.
