At this point should I socket to 8% or should I just wait till it comes with gear?

This is really a question of whether you are poor or not. If you can't afford to regem every time you get a new piece of gear, then don't. You will see a damage boost if you do. To me not doing so would be like leaving a socket empty. Sure you can raid like that, but it is not optimal.
