"Boo hoo, they nerfed my favorite spec." Don't whine. It's annoying and we don't want to hear it.

I don't think players would be happy if there was a set bonus that was strong for Frost or Arcane but weak for Fire. They would not be happy at all.
I think what irks me most about the treatment of Arcane, and it's the most childish of things, is that they were so fast to nerf it when it was considered overpowered but they've been slow slow to buff it now that it's underpowered.

The PvP nerfs essentially wrote Arcane off as an Arena spec. It wasn't particularly overpowered either if Arena representation was anything to go by, and certainly no more bursty than Destruction warlocks are today. There was just a lot of bitching from people in battlegrounds with no resilience versus arcane mages in PvE gear. The spec was overnerfed and never buffed back when it lost its competitive edge. Frost PvP meanwhile has received buffs by way of a reduced healing effect and faster cast frostbolts.

Then there was the same for Arcane PvE. The glyph was nerfed because it as considered overpowered. The 'shatter' bug was nerfed, because well, it was a lag bug (though to be fair the concept of interupting missiles to throw a Barrage as a shatter before the last missile tick wouldn't be so terrible a mechanic and would require timing). And of course there was the Barrage co-efficient nerf that had it fall out of our rotations. And then nothing. The frustrating part is that if they weren't so over-eager to nerf Arcane (I think it had a week max of being overpowered) Arcane mages now would actually be in a competitive place. Not overpowered and not underpowered. As it stands though, Fire is getting buffed and Arcane left untouched.

Once again Fire is the PvE spec and Frost the PvP spec. As an arcane boy at heart I can't help but feel incredibly bitter at how quick they were to nerf the spec for both PvE and PvP, leaving Arcane as a subpar spec in all respects. I've already given up on Arcane for PvP and jumped to Frost. With 3.2 and once I can collect enough gear I'll probably have to do the same for PvE and jump ship to Fire. I enjoy Arcane more than any other spec but I don't enjoy feeling like I'm not pulling my weight in a raid environment. Who wants a lower dps spec with zero utility?
