Ouch I missed that since I'm writing posts from my very old ibookg4..
Overlocking isn't my thing, I tried it for the heck of it but in the end in my opinion the performance gain is not worth it in term of added work coming from possible crashes and hardware damage; another factor is that my computers must be fully operative for at least 5 years and overclocking doesn't work well with long term endurance..
I'll also lower my shadows, they look pretty but are so demanding that it's not funny. :\

After upgrading the CPU to a quad core and setting the processor affinity to the appropriate level I couldn't be happier with my rig, and it only cost $200 as opposed to building an entirely new rig.

What do you mean with setting the processor affinity? I've read something about it on tomshw but never tried anything
EDIT: Am I the only one who's really pissed by how WoW hw requests have gone wild over the years in respect to what it offers? I can't really figure out why this game is so heavy on our systems; there isn't any AI to manage (even if sometimes pug people make you think they're badly programmed bots), the graphic and sound are outdated and adding some visual effects shouldn't have such a huge impact on a 2004 game.
This is going to the point that I'm really concerned by cataclysm because I'm not sure I'll be able to enable the new water stuff. People around me are all experiencing this issue as new fights are introduced ("sorry guys, I'll do my best while my usually rather smooth system drops to 5fps on Hodir") and is getting worse and worse.. This whole thread with people asking about using quad cores shouldn't really exist and I really hope blizzard is going to do a lot of work over this issue because by keeping this pace the game will be unplayable for a lot of people.
