I wasn't saying that it is rare to take raid damage, but rather that it is rare to take raid damage that causes pushback. Regardless, though, the only real alternative to Healing Focus is Elemental Weapons (which, unless I'm mistaken, amounts to a whooping +39 healing for 3 points) or more esoteric talents like Improved Reincarnation or Healing Grace.

my 2 cents
I don't bother with the push back, I find with the high spike dmg fights in HM to the tanks and so forth more than makes the 3 points for your HW useful, couple it with the HW glyph and those times when your tank takes 30K dmg and a fire patch spawns under you, throwing a ~1.3sec HW cast that crits for 20 odd K to the tank and then heals u for 4ish K + potentially the extra from/to AW, compounds the usefulness of of the points, also good to remember that most raids will have at least.
Concentration Aura
Reduces casting or channeling time lost when damaged by 35%.
so you'll generally get a little push back resistance anyway. well that's what I'm finding effective enough right now till content/talents change/something better comes along for my style of healing...
The thing I really like about shammy healing is that although I appreciate there's definitely "best practice" ways of healing, there's also more than one useful "style" to heal with a sham. And generaly all of them are quite useful, and some more so depending on your raid makeup.
I think its also worth giving merit to the idea you also have to like/be capable of executing your healing style. If your having trouble healing the way some very good resto sham on Elitist jerks is suggesting you to heal and it affects the overall fun you're having, well maybe it's best to take a step back and simplify what you're doing a little, macro's and /stopcasting on various spells etc can imrove the overall effectiveness and probably enjoyment you have on your toon as well.
