Just tossing this here in case it gets deleted off of Raids and Dungeons:

A few days ago I awoke, looked at YouTube - Malice - I am God, and thus reassured I inspected WoWprogress, and hmm looks like there’s been 4000 Anub’arak kills in 10 man Hard mode. Four thousand? I ponder this for a while. Four thousand? Doesn’t click. Four fucking thousand? How long has this instance been out? 3 weeks. How is that even possible, how could this possibly be called a hard mode, what do the people that have cleared this have to do for 5 months? Oh that’s right, farm, and hell get rewarded for farming better than they used to.

Okay, most of those 4000, say 2500 of them are probably going to wander into 25 man hard mode ToC, and poof 3 bosses dead in a couple of weeks, 4 for a good deal. Fourth one eventually dies maybe 1750 times before leveling off a bit, but the only Anub’arak that even resembles a difficult boss encounter will of course get nerfed, probably within the month.

So you wind up with 1500 guilds killing him within another month or so, and I guess they’re supposed to be content with improving how good they are at farming for another 3 months, assuming it takes Blizzard 11+ months to produce a good instance, and by Alec Baldwin you better hope they take that long, or you’ll wind up with Black Temple +/- 2 somewhat difficult hard modes. So what do you say in the amazing blizzard board room? Well guys, we fucked that one up, hell it’s the biggest joke in the history of the game.

I can understand the first part of the expansion being almost universally trivial (though there still at least was a lot of raid content), because there’s all these random new achievements, DK’s to level up, 5 mans to mess around with, and a fairly intriguing arena season (at least for a couple of months), that’s fine. But you can’t just say oh lets half ass one part of this raid instance and just say fuck it for the other half when you’re already 2 damn tiers into the content. I suspect a good portion of the raiding population isn’t greatly intrigued at the prospect of farming for 7-11 months once they finish Sunwell/Ulduar/Icecrown, and while we’ll have 8 million Chinese playing at Cataclysm release that doesn’t exactly tell the whole story does it? Good job on the 12 million guys!

Puggable 25 mans completely annihilate the concept of 10 man progression, hey here’s 2 raiding tiers, I’m sure you’ll independently go through whichever one without benefitting from the easier component to help you out. It’s hard to say just how large the 10 man section of the WoW populace is, but I’d assume it’s at least a few hundred thousand people, with the 25 man section being a few million, and the zomg lets pug everything cause it fucking works section is several million deep. Do those few hundred thousand just get hung out to dry by this? Or do you really expect them to follow the tier strictly just for one achievement? How many 10 man guilds are even willing to do that in the first place? A few hundred at most?

Twilight Zone 10 man was tuned excessively difficult for the first “hard mode” available, but that doesn’t mean future 10 man tiers have to be easier than it in every conceivable way, of course 10 man raids are constrictive due to the game not being balanced around 10 man buffs, but that’s the whole point of normal modes. “Bring the player not the class” does not have to apply, except very roughly, to hard modes that should be the bleeding edge of content progression, of course having a specific raid composition makes hard bosses easier, every feasibly useful ability would have to be given to several classes and specs for this not to be the case. Homogeneous class design is an atrocious thing.

Its progression, you know how I know, because there’s better loot and that’s all that matters. Maybe most of the population really is stupid enough to believe that, but for all your accessibility pugmasters, there’s hundreds of thousands of people who aren’t that dense. At least, I hope there are.

It took a month and a half for the first Algalon 10 kill, there’s still only 1200 kills of it 4 months after that, and yet 3 weeks in we’re sitting on 4000+ guilds. Yeah, its too late to tune it back to appropriate standards, because you’d cut off 80+% of those guilds from their phat lewtz. Have fun farming in your one room instance. It’s gotta be a blast. As a wise man once said: There should be a sign at the end of Heroic ToC 10 that says “Haha fuck you.”
