I don't think it's really needed to do such a dramatic change, it's not for everyone you don't have to play every week if you're a casual player you aren't going to get a drake and you aren't going to get a very high standing anyway, i'd rather see giving you the ability to join 2 teams, or give teams a better reason to queue for unrated games to screw around.

Regarding the post in the thread you linked, making gear equal would just be stupid I really don't think I need to go into it why, but look at the current sets and people complaining about those.

There are no consumables or repairs to speak of, either. You're out what, candles and poisons?

There's definitely repair bills (especially when you're a healer and you get pounded on for 3 minutes straight each game), but it's of course nowhere near raiding repair levels.

Enchants and Gems, though, are quite expensive for both raiders and Arena competitors.

There will be no consumable costs for raiding either, as of 2.1 =p

The Washington Post helps perpetuate a common and pernicious misreading of the decision, referring to "the Supreme Court’s judgment that corporations have the same rights as people when it comes to political speech." What the Supreme Court actually said is that people do not lose their free speech rights when they organize as corporations, including nonprofit interest groups as well as businesses.

I havent left/rejoined a team before but i believe that when you do your TOTAL games played for that team is essentially reset (correct me if im wrong).

So if a player in a 2300+ rated team (likely in the running for a netherdrake prize) leaves, helps out other teams and then rejoins, then he is effectively wiping his total games played in the 2300+ team.

Correct me if im wrong again, but there is word floating around that you need like 20% or more games played total (out of the teams total games) to qualify for the netherdrake/title prizes.

So by doing what they're doing, if their high rated team wins the netherdrake + title prize, then they have disqualified themselves from also receiving it by leaving/rejoining their team continuously...... so their lose. (this is assuming the high rated team has so much games played that the player doesnt have much hope of reaching 20% if they keep reseting their total games played)

There has been no such confirmation by a Blizzard representative.

The games are indeed reset. You are also dropped from your guild, all arena teams and lose your friends list when you transfer you character between accounts, so don't do that near the end of the season if you are on a high rated team.

Q: To obtain the netherdrake at the end of the season, will all 10 players in the 5v5 team get the netherdrake? Or do you need a certain percentage played? If so, is that percentage based on the last week or the whole season all together?
A: You need to have played at least 30% of the matches to be eligible for the armoured Netherdrake. It's based on the whole season.
