[Arcane mage] Battleground Compendium
Intro
The aim of this thread is consolidate the communities knowledge and to create conversation on Arcane Mages in Battlegrounds and Rated Battlegrounds. I intend for this to be a living document and as such will be edited and updated as and when it is necessary. Spec Arcane has a certain degree of flexibility to its talent spec in battlegrounds. An example spec is here which focuses on silencing and controlling the target to nuke them down. Where as this spec focuses more on nuking an already controlled target. Glyphs Prime Glpyhs [Glyph of Arcane Blast] [Glyph of Arcane Barrage] [Glyph of Mage Armor] Major Glpyhs [Glyph of Blink] OR [Glyph of Frost Armor] [Glyph of Evocation] [Glyph of Polymorph] Minor Glpyhs [Glyph of Arcane Intellect] [Glyph of Mirror Image] [Glyph of Slow Fall] Gear A WowHead search of Mage resilience gear can be found here Enchants Gems
Stat The stat priority for Arcane mages in Battlegrounds is Intellect > Hit (to cap) > Spell Penetration (to cap) > Resilience > Haste (to soft cap) > Critical strike > Mastery > Extra haste. The hit cap is 4% or 409.78296 rating. The spell penetration cap is 240 rating. The haste soft cap is enough to reduce Arcane Blast to a 1sec cast time. With TW & the 5% Haste buff this is 13.9% (1779.96 rating), with TW this is 19.5% (2497.12 rating), without the 5% haste buff or TW this is 55.4% (7094.37 rating). Notes I hope that with the help of the community this can be expanded to encompass all possibilities of the arcane mage in battlegrounds and rated battlegrounds. As always EJ forum rules still apply. Please feel free to PM me directly or discuss any issues within this thread. Updated 1oth May 2011 - Created. 13th May 2011 - Edited haste cap information. 24th June 2011 - Added haste cap rating information. |
Thank you for this post. First one I've found, very helpful.
If this question doesn't belong here, please delete it - I don't want to be banned. Forgot to mention, I'm playing a mage lvl 85. I've searched everywhere and can't find an answer. My question is regarding trinkets. I have two PvE trinkets, one is the Stump of Time, the other is an i346 blue one. Both add to hit which I don't need, but both can also increase spell power, one over 1700, the other over 1900, if I remember correctly. Looking at PvP trinkets, they mostly add 301 resilience, and the few that increase SP, the number is like 900-1000 points lower than the PvE trinkets. Is it worth to swap to PvP trinkets for the added resilience and lose the increased SP, or keep the other two because of the higher SP? My resilience right now is a little over 2400 - after 10 days of running non-rated BGs. I have problems with melee characters stunning me, and sometimes blink doesn't release me. If I switch trinkets, should I take the one with SP, or get the one that lets your character break free of stuns, etc.? |
The choice between Resilience trinkets or DPS trinkets depends on how well your surviving. Personally I find I get focused a lot so [Vicious Gladiator's Medallion of Tenacity] was my first priority for trinkets. If however you're not being focused or not dieing to quickly then the extra DPS trinkets could help you.
