Focus deep freeze is used all the time so you can actually cc a healer, and it's also used when switching to a druid so his hots fall off and he is forced to take hits/stay in place while your team gets there.
Deep Freeze's uses are:
-Stun/lock someone in place and shatter away
-Begin a cc chain
-Interrupt heals
-CC times a thousand
You will almost never cc a good priest/paladin without using deep freeze or blanket silence, and there's no way at all to cc a druid without it.
Hey, my mage just dinged 80 a week ago. I have never been specially found of pvp on my main and almost never play thinks like BGs and WG. But on my mage it's another thing and I'm definitively likes it a lot more and I'm going to start to get some pvp-gear.
I got a question according to trinkets, when I read different guides on the web and I check this forum almost everyone says that I should get Titan-forged Rune of Audacity and Dislodged Foreign Object. Well the first one is easy to get, but it will probably take a lot of time before I get the second one. What should I get instead? Something that’s easier to get.
Battlemaster's Vivacity? Battlemasters's Ruination? Medallion of the Horde? Something else?
Must say that the last one feels very interesting since I do a lot of dueling against Locks and having 2 trinkets that can stop fear would really make a different.
And another question regarding trinkets, when it comes done to chose between Titan-forged Rune of Audacity and Medallion of the Horde, isn't the 153 resilience worth more then the 111 spellpower?
1) Why do you need haste for arcane spec? I find myself using all the instants and not really casting anything. The common 60/0/11 seems to waste 10points in frost just to get icy veins, why not instant pyro/impact/burning deter./etc.?
2) Currently double arcane mage 2v2, would arcane/fire be better? (not considering frost/frost atm)
Please consider my background info when you my questions:
- Only concerns 2v2 with mage/mage
- Currently 1k rating 21-8 rec
- 5.7gs pvp gear
- Alliance

Battlemaster's is usually the best choice for people with not-as-great PvP gear simply because it's another cooldown you can pop. I'd recommend that. Please don't use double trinkets. I'd use the Spellpower version until your spellpower is over 3,000. Don't worry too much about haste yet.

Using one trinket puts the other trinket on cooldown.

Personally, I would recommend Medallion over Titanforged simply because of it's level, but you're spellpower is really going to be hurting. I would stick with Titan and get Medallion as one of your last PvP pieces that you buy with honor.

Specifically for things like sheeps. As arcane, you should be casting Arcane Blast quite a bit, as well as rank one frostbolts. You shouldn't just be spamming instants until Arcane Missile procs. Icy Veins is a very good cooldown that allows for quick sheeps, faster cooldowns, more damage, etcetera. Arcane in general needs the cooldown reduction, the mortal strike and ward and stuff and by the time you have the necessary talents you're already 10 deep. There isn't much left in the arcane tree after 60 points beyond useless talents.
2) Currently double arcane mage 2v2, would arcane/fire be better? (not considering frost/frost atm)
They're both very bad comps. Double Mage really, really doesn't work unless they're both frost (or, you could go Frost/Arcane and have the Arcane Mage pick up shatter). If you're good you could probably still break 1800, but it isn't something that's optimal or recommended.

Thanks a lot for the advice. Just to make sure, are you saying arcane/arcane(arcane/fire) could break 1800 if we're good or were you referring to arcane/frost?
Also, I'm definitely thinking about switching to frost but the reason why I didn't switch already is because frost, I believe, has a steep learning curve and I don't really have the time to practice it between my day job, gf and PvE. So to make my life easier I want to ask how do you guys play frost PvP? What are the basic rotations? When is a good time to cold snap? When do you cast rank 1 frostbolt? How should deep freeze be used?
Thanks a bunch.
EDIT: I know the request might be breaking the "No hand holding" rule but I guess I'll take the risk since I really couldn't find any useful information with the limited time I have.

You could run double fire, double BM, double Sub, double anything; even the most awkward combos (moonkin/warrior) can hit 1800 with the gear and rating inflation right now, especially if both players are good. You would have a much easier time being frostx2 or arcane/frost, though. Sorry if I was unclear.

Frost does not have a specific rotation for any given situation like it does for PvE. You switch around from defensive to offensive given on what cooldowns you have available, positioning of the enemies, and procs.
The learning curve is not as steep as subtlety rogues or discipline priests, it just takes practice and time to master. Play around with it a lot in battlegrounds and get the feel for how other classes will react to your cooldowns.
For example, Death Knights will probably AMS right after they Death Grip your Blink to stop the Deep Freeze. Rogues will always open with Garrote to prevent blinks. And so forth.
If you are in the open and have time to cast Frostbolt, you should be casting Frostbolt. You should always be casting something, whether its a Polymorph, Frostbolt, or Evocation, unless you are locked in a GCD, trying to get off a drink, or trying to distance yourself or LoS from someone.
If a Brain Freeze proc comes up, you should use it to either put on pressure or land a kill. Best used as soon as possible, but if a kill is assured in a Deep Freeze, by all means, use it.
If you get a Fingers of Frost proc, you should either Frostbolt-Frostbolt-Ice Lance, or if Deep Freeze is up, Frostbolt-Frostbolt-Deep Freeze.
Deep Freeze is used to either peel for a teammate, peel for yourself, or to stop a target and try to land a kill (usually a healer). Or, when you just want someone out of the game for 4 seconds to squeeze off 2 extra Frostbolts.
Cold Snap should typically be used if you already used Iceblock and think you'll be swapped to so you have the second Iceblock ready. I rarely find myself needing it in 2s, and only occasionally in RMP 3s.
Haste is so highly valued for arcane because Arcane Blast is more reliable for Missile Barrage procs than Arcane Barrage, and Arcane Blast is capable of hitting enormous numbers with Arcane Power and a DFO/CTS proc up. Frostbolt scales decently with spell power, but getting more haste to get off a whole Shatter combo in a Deep Freeze is superior. Don't worry about Crit Rating at all.
I personally use 4p Tier 10 and play with a Shadow Dance rogue, we usually end games in 10 seconds of the gates opening.
Any comp is capable of hitting 1800. It is just a lot easier as frost/arcane or frost/frost because you have reliable damage and reliable ways to stop damage. Fire is too gimmicky and dependent on RNG to win games and doesn't have the stronger Mana Shield or Ice Barrier arcane/frost has.

I have very much the same thought. I am getting done with heroics for the most part, and there are a lot of times when there are no pug-runs going for the lower raids, and guild not doing the higher ones, and I figured that PvP might be a good thing. Frost all the way seems the safest ticket. I wonder if I can get by with my frost raidspecc or if I have to get another one for the battlegrounds.
Please do share your experiences as a "new mage in the BGs". It would be interesting to hear.
I'm curious, why rank one frostbolts? To cover the slow?
Rank 1 Frostbolt does the following as Arcane :
Quick and easy way to get a 70% snare on your target. This is a separate snare from Slow so you can have 2 targets snared at once.
Adds Frostbolt debuff.
Adds 20% reduced healing. (If you put points into it, which you should have).
And if you are Frost, it'll do all of the above, and including :
Chance to proc Fingers of Frost.
Chance to proc Frostbite.
Adds a stack of Winter's Chill.
Tossing a Rank 1 Frostbolt on an enemy before Polymorphing them will add 2, maybe 3 debuffs that will significantly reduce the chance it is quickly dispelled.
It is quite essential that you have it keybound to something handy.
Edit : To clarify, as Arcane, the 20% reduced healing and Frostbolt slow will count as 1 and only 1 debuff. It's as Frost you get 2 separate debuffs, Frostbolt and Winter's Chill and possibly Frostbite.

Don't forget the lovely Brain Freeze!
Besides the snare, it can be quite nice to use it to get Fingers of Frost / Brain Freeze procs. Remember though, I'm not saying you should spam it if your not targeted, then it's usually better to go for a full rank frostbolt
I wonder if I can get by with my frost raidspecc or if I have to get another one for the battlegrounds.

I am in a similar situation...can't find a good frost mage to ask on server, and I haven't played frost or seriously PvP'd at all since Vanilla. Not looking for Arena, more for BG's and WG, but have now idea where points should be allocated. Any tips on stat weights, caps, talents and glyphs would be appreciated

so resilience isn't particularly necessary? I was under the impression that ~1k resil was pretty much the standard, even for BG farming
Oh yeah it is! Sorry I made the assumption that you'll be in full PVP gear.
Yes, as stated by Seriana there is no need to gem for it. But you should use full PVP gear, with some PVE gear to for some hit % (ie. Silent Eulogy neck, ICC25 rep ring).
Glyphs: Ice Barrier, Evocation, third can be anything (Icy Veins, Polymorph, etc.)
so you guys all agreed with after 2700 sp, haste become more usefull than sp? i got 3k sp and 600 haste on my mage.(forst ofc) should i cut from sp and transfer it to haste? and im not sure but haste soft cap is like 1075 cause of 1 sec globalcd is that right?
