Rated game matched vs Skirmish - intended?

I know many people have experienced rated matches being bugged out, like in this example:

Now that was actually the second game we had against that team, first one also didn't count. (same scoreboard error), so when we lost again, I joked "You won't be getting any points anyways", to which they replied "why should we get points for skirmish?" to which I replied (visible) "we signed up for a rated game" and they replied that they did not.

I'm not quite sure if this warrants its own thread but imho it is a huge issue. Out of 12 games today, 4 were not counted and this isn't a particular unlucky day for us.

This has happened to us about 10 times in the past few weeks. I asked a GM, and they said it was intended that you get 0 points against teams that were low rated enough, which I didn't buy. Our warrior speculated this is what was happening.

Did the GM also say that it's intended that the 0 point game doesn't even count in the statistic?

Yes there is the possibility of getting 0 rating if the rating disparity is big enough, and its also true that it won't count in the stats. Don't know if the second part is intended or not.

On the same note, on some 0 rating games the scorescreen can bug out, showing that your team loses 17k rating as the lowest integral or somesuch (comp sci friend mentioned this).

I had this happen twice after the most recent patch (both on that patch day). I believe it is an error with the matchmaking system. Also the chances of facing a team you'd get 0 points from would seem phenomenally low, wouldn't that require something like a 2000+ team facing a 1000 rated team for it to not be worth even one point?

Keline 06/18/07 12:57 PM

no, per 25 points difference in rating, 1 point differs from the average 15. So 15*25 = 375. So if you have 2175 rating, a team with less than 1800 will not give you any points.

However, in my example we lost and our rating is less than 375 below the #1 team (and those guys were not the #1 team anyways), so they should have received points for these wins.

This is a known exploit that many top teams do. They manage to bug out the system to make it think that its a skirmish when it was a rated game. It is possible to do this on command while inside the game. I think that it relates to the disconnection = no loss change they made to the arenas.

We've had it happen, even where we've faced people from multiple servers. It said we recieved points and we got nothing. I reported it, and the gm told me that there was an issue where points weren't showing up on your screen, and we actually got the points. We didn't.

The worst part here is how GMs straight up lie to us :(

Have you observed any teams doing that repeatedly? This doesn't appear to be related to what happened in our case

Have people been noticing queues taking longer when you disconnect, but pop right after? Could also be related to something like that.

I don't think they lie intentionally, they just have no idea whats going on so they give you the best answer they possibly can without saying "I don't know." This sounds like a pretty serious issue though...

Amera 06/18/07 2:50 PM

The 2 GMs I talked to seemed to have no idea what was going on, so I stopped pressing the issue.

I saw some anomalys on my alt hunters 3v3 this past weekend. We had back to back games which we won, but got zero points. Then won another like 2 games later where the scoreboard read something like (rating gain +1894890504). Sadly, we didnt get that much rating. Nor, did we wind up having any points refunded for the games that scored out as zero. FWIW, the armory was also borked during that time, so I am guessing it was somehow related.

Yes. We've beaten top 10 teams who we straight up whored and they all yell to us enjoy the 0 points, right before they are all beaten, and sure enough, bam! Zero points. It also explains their ridiculously high ratings with virtually no losses.

Armory links?
