Upgrading all my Veteran's Gear and getting a new Cloak is somewhere in the ballpark of 90k honor. That's whole lot of retarded bg zerging right there, and that's only for one character. Some people don't mind suffering through shit games all day every day for a few weeks, but I do. Honor/Arena gear is viewed as easy to obtain because you can fail all the way to the rewards but we are talking about some serious amounts of grinding here.

With regards to upgrading, unless you are playing at a super high level I would say that upgrading your honor gear (assuming there is new honor gear) isn't really worth it. 10 resil just isn't worth the grind.
I've made about 300k since TBC came out. 90% of that has not been difficult - just multiqueue whenever you aren't doing anything else. I live in a fairly small apartment, so it's easy to do other things (dishes/TV) while guarding Frostwolf. My guild gets premades together fairly regularly, which are good fun for a couple of hours. It can get be a pretty tough grind if you feel you have to have a certain piece by a certain day. My least favorite part of it is actually EotS/WSG marks. EotS takes 15min even if you are getting stomped, and in WSG the game might never end.

Well the biggest problem with introducing additional battlegrounds is that it would further dilute the queue pool, I know at some odd times of the day there are only 1-2 of each battleground open - for my entire battle group. Possibly what they could do is replace the battleground specific battle masters with game type specific battle masters, and rename the tokens appropriately.
You could queue up for capture the flag (WSG) or domination (AB). It would be nice if AB was modified to use the same flag capture mechanics as eye, and replace the flag in eye with another base to make it an AB equivalent. Introduce new maps for each category to round out the options, and randomize which battleground map it sends you to for a little bit of variety.
It would also be nice if they introduced a "team death match" category, where you just get placed into one of any of the BGs randomly, but none of the objectives are activated. First team to however many kills wins. I know a lot of people already queue without any intention of playing the game to win, this would help a lot to isolate those players. The down side is that there would be no objective based bonus honor.
I'm not sure what you could possibly do with AV, I don't think you could make another map that is similar enough to be lumped into the same category. Not only that but 40v40 was a huge mistake in the first place, in my opinion. It pretty much necessitates a race to the enemy faction leader, because with 80 people clumped up in one spot with PvP going on, nothing can get accomplished through all of the lag.
All of this translates into a lot of extra work, and I'm not sure if Blizzard is willing or able to sacrifice the development time. They have already promised a large number of features for upcoming patches and the expansion, so I suspect that they have their hands full right now.

New maps would be great additions in my opinion.
Changing AB to the proximity mechanics of EotS seems dubious simply because one of the best parts about AB is fighting off a superior force with less people - not to mention that adding in another node for a maximum of 5 further spreads out defenders such that Zerg tactics would be even more prevalent in AB.

Tigole said at blizzcon that one possibility they are thinking of doing is to allow queuing based on size of map, with multiple maps chosen at random within that pool. For example, there would be a 10v10 queue with WSG and others, and a 15v15, and whatever else there might be. That way they could add unlimited maps without diluting the queue too much.

I remember a thread like this a while back, the idea I like most, is just allow a chance for side swapping (AV in particular) so alliance start from the horde base etc. Both bases have the same NPCs just different names. Just have them swapped and voila! a "new" map.

This should have been in from the beginning. Hopefully they go with it and get around to it relatively quickly (WLK or before).

There's nothing to say they couldn't just institute a very small amount of bonus honor per kill if kills were the objective. I suspect this would make the other battlegrounds into ghost towns, but you might have the impossible happen and get 15 people playing the game on each side when they did fire.
Making more AVs would be easy -- AV is just a lame pve encounter. Threre is certainly a lot of room to make different terrain, npcs with different abilities, etc. Now, it probably wouldn't be a good idea...because AV is just a lame pve encounter.
