Opinions on my build
MM Build
The World of Warcraft Armory
This is my build right now. I have been going back and forth with the 3 points in Lock and Load and placing them into Surefooted, but I can't decide what I like best yet. I'm also rolling with a crab as of late; I utilize the snare very well. I want to get opinions on it, and why I should change it.
I've only recently started to pvp and I can't seem to get a hold of 2v2. What class pairs up well with MM hunters, or should I respec into another tree? Or are hunters meant more for a 3v3 or 5v5 bracket. I do pretty well in BGs, staying alive and keeping healers alive, bu that hasn't worked out for me in 2v2s.
I don't have problems with DK's at all, but rogues and pallys tear me up. If anyone with PvP and especially arena experience has some advice, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hunters don't do well in 2s at all, but if you're hell bent on playing 2s, you need to go surv and you need to find a druid or shaman.
Hunters do much better in 3s and 5s, where the comps you can run are wide open

Ive encountered some very very mean 2's of a hunter and a resto druid. I havent done arena since pre WOTLK but i assume that the combination is still viable. So if you really want to 2v2 I'd try grabbing a druid preferrably resto and someone who is good at evasive playing.

You lose Kindred Spirits and Spirit Bond, but the surprise factor worths every penny.
After patch, the fuss will be on MM in my opinion due to its high burst and silence capabilities. Especially coupled with Readiness it can help a lot in a 3v3 or 5v5 situation. Double Silence and Scatter is taking a healer out of the game, especially on those crucial burst seconds.

Grumhul,
After reading about your post I wanted to know if you would be so kind as to post a link to your BM adapted spec of 43/21/7 in the forum. I am going to adjust my current BM spec and wanted a comparative view of another alternative. While my PvPing is limited, I do occasionally BG and even seek retribution while in the Basin with 51/15/5. My desire is to maintain Beast Mastery as I enjoy the confusion that my Spirit Beast causes.
In addition if ANY other Hunters who would also like to post a link to their favorite BM it would be appreciated.

My hunter is gonna hit 80 tonight and i am going to to use him him as my PVP/Arena guy. I was trying to decide what pet to use when i noticed birds of prey have a disarm ability. Does this make them a viable pet, if not what pet should i be looking for? I'm starting off with a MM build but will prob try survival at some point.

Spell Penetration as MM
I have LnL/arcane in my PVP MM build. I am wondering if I am shooting myself in the foot keeping my Spell Pen Gems when I could have so much more Agi...
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Hey guys. I got a few questions for those of you that may be more experienced than I am in the PVP field. Ive been PVPn a lot lately on my hunter. I havent specced for it yet because i cant figure out which tree I want to use. My main questions are what kind of gems should I go for with my current gear, which tree is best suited for fighting which class, and whats the line where I should worry more about damage I do versus resilience? Any pointers are appreciated.
current pvp gear - The World of Warcraft Armory
Thanks
One other thing, I have gotten the deadly glad helm recently and dont know whether to use it over the currently equipped one.

I think you'd enjoy a spec similar to mine
The World of Warcraft Armory
My second spec is PvP the 5/5 in endurance training is really moveable to different things if you like
As for what you want to do with gear vs. resillience I'd say don't stack Resillience gems. If your trying for survivability you could always stack stam but it nerfs your damage, The good thing about stacking stam with this build is you get 1/3 Stam to AP so you get some decent AP along with the survivabilty although your crit is a little bit nerfed, but to be honest I'd say as long as you have 500 Resillience 5% hit and 75 Spell Pen you should stack damaging stats.

Thanks Diablos. I got 2 new PVP pieces last night so Im over 700 resil now so I guess I'll start going towards damage now. I put a resil gem in just because it was a yellow socket. I noticed we're on the same server so I might whisper you sometime if I have any more questions. Thanks for your help.

Well I cant give you a macro that would do a shift but I have a macro something like
/cast [target=focus] wyvern sting
as well as
/cast [target=focus] scatter shot
and
/cast [target=focus] viper sting
and
/cast [target=focus] scorpid sting
or pretty much any ability where the ability is, the only reason i have scorpid btw is so that I can take the wyvern sting dot of to continue CCing

Hey everyone, my first post here! First of all, here is my profile: The World of Warcraft Armory - I hope you view it when I'm wearing PVP gear and not PVE, though both are pretty imba. :P I'm wearing quite a lot of PvE gear as you can see, I have 655 resilience and will have well over 5000 attack power if I go surv. I've not wanted to replace the PVE pieces with deadly crap since it would gimp my DPS too much. I should be getting the relentless neck soon though, which will bump me to round 700. Currently the MM build is my PvP spec obviously. Here are some questions I have:
We are rocking Death Knight / Druid / Hunter in 3v3. Our death knight player also has a warlock, which I've heard is absolutely amazing with a hunter and druid, but we do not wish to give up on the DK yet, he's been gearing up so much. So:
1. Should I spec survival for Wyvern Sting since I guess we lack CC? (Succubus)
2. Is my pet OK for this comp? (Serpent) I'm using him to make up for curse of tongues mostly.
3. As for my build, should I go for the 5%+ health talent in BM or use the 5 talent points in surv?
Here's what my end-tier survival spec would look: (Lacking master tactician for example)

Level 80 Hunter (5/14/52)
Resourcefulness - Rank 3/3
Reduces the mana cost of all traps, melee abilities and Black Arrow by 60% and reduces the cooldown of all traps and Black Arrow by 6 sec.
Expose Weakness - Rank 1/3
Your ranged criticals have a 33% chance to grant you Expose Weakness. Expose Weakness increases your attack power by 25% of your Agility for 7 sec.
Wyvern Sting - Rank 1/1
A stinging shot that puts the target to sleep for 30 sec. Any damage will cancel the effect. When the target wakes up, the Sting causes 2460 Nature damage over 6 sec. Only one Sting per Hunter can be active on the target at a time.
Thrill of the Hunt - Rank 3/3
Gives you a 100% chance to regain 40% of the mana cost of any shot when it critically hits.
Noxious Stings - Rank 3/3
If Wyvern Sting is dispelled, the dispeller is also afflicted by Wyvern Sting lasting 50% of the duration remaining, and increases all damage done by you on targets afflicted by your Serpent Sting by 3%.
Point of No Escape - Rank 2/2
Increases the critical strike chance of all attacks on targets affected by your Frost Trap, Freezing Trap and Freezing Arrow by 6%.
Black Arrow - Rank 1/1
Fires a Black Arrow at the target, increasing all damage done by you to the target by 6% and dealing [RAP * 0.1 + 2765] Shadow damage over 15 sec. Black Arrow shares a cooldown with Trap spells.
Hunting Party - Rank 2/3
Increases your total Agility by an additional 2%, and your Arcane Shot, Explosive Shot and Steady Shot critical strikes have a 66% chance to grant up to 10 party or raid members mana regeneration equal to 1% of the maximum mana per 5 sec. Lasts for 15 sec.
Explosive Shot - Rank 1/1
You fire an explosive charge into the enemy target, dealing [RAP * 0.14 + 386]-[RAP * 0.14 + 464] Fire damage. The charge will blast the target every second for an additional 2 sec.

MM vs Surv in Arenas
Hey guys I have a few questions regarding MM spec in 3s. I've played as a survival hunter since Wrath was released. During the Burning Crusade I was BM and before that I was MM. Now I'm considering revisiting the MM spec for arenas. So here are my questions:
1. If I have Lotrafen, Mjolnir Runestone and Giant's Bane should I stack Arm Pen? How effective is Arm Pen in arenas? Would I be more or less bursty with Arm Pen or Agi?
2. How viable is Survival if I go crazy stacking Stam gems? I heard a long time ago it is possible to stack Stam, get over 30k health and only lose like 5% of my dmg. Is that still true?
3. MM vs Surv in arenas? Tips or general thoughts are welcome.

I have a question about DW Vs 2H in Arena
Although the stats are comparable in some sense would I benefit more with DW (with AP, and Titanium wep chain) than with 2H (Either massacre or wep chain, probably chain since i Arena as BM).
I would only assume that DW would be more beneficial seeing as you get 2 enchants, with chain and AP. However, the stat allocation for the 2H is > than DW. More effective Stam in the 2H than MH/OH combo. Through s6 I used mh/oh combo with AP/chain as enchants. Although im seeing more hunters arena with 2H weps. Also with more 2H wielding hunters i see a lot of them using PvE weps at that, I have Hellion Glaive from 25 man anub, stats are nice but unsure if saving arena points and using PvE weps would be a good idea.
Ok after doing a little more research into it I found that the stat difference is marginal at that (10 more stamin from 2H and like 40 more AP with DW [enchanted]. However, even though the stats are minimal difference the cost is 700 more arena points. 2H costs 1400 pts, where as MH/OH costs 2200. I'm thinking that I'll get a better upgrade faster if I go with the 2H, if any disagrees I would like to know what your thoughts are behind that.

the syntax for doing what you describe is this
/cast [modifier: shift, target=focus] Silencing Shot; Silencing Shot
this will cast silencing shot on your target, or silencing shot on focus if you're holding shift.
Beware, if you bind this macro to say '1', and have the key 'Shift+1' bound to something already, it will not work properly.

A few things I would like to adress..
1. Even though stacking stam could be considered as somewhat viable as a Survival hunter do to the 1/3 stam to ap talent that you get your dps would be gimped considerably though your survivability would increase marginally..
2. I don't think that Armor Pen was ever a viable stat for arena.. I'm not completely sure on it but it seems as though with the recent 12% nerf to the benefeit per point in armor pen that it will not be viable either way.
3. Ravager's are Decent PvP pets thats what I curently use for the stun, and seeings as they are tenacity they provide you with a bit of survivabilty with things such as Roar of Sacrifice
4. MM is just as viable for survival depending on what type of team your building. MM Excels in steady sustained damage in arena whereas Survival relies heavily on bursting with lock and load procs. The mana draining in MM is much better then survival but the kiting is better as survival as well as the CC, I'd say to be completely honest that in 2s Surv dominates MM but in 3s/5s is when MM and Even the ocasional BM becomes Viable.
5. 2 1H is better then 2h's Simply because your really screwed if you have a rogue sitting on you and youc ant scatter/deterence.. No matter the slight loss in health and the quicker you can get your 2h then your 2 1h.. Seriously though for me my melee weapon is bottom priority of my PvP gear list, I go Armor > Ranged > melee In the hopes that while I pick up my armor I can get to the advanced quality of weapons.
Hope I've helped you guys out.

Couple quick questions I can't find up-to-date answers for:
1. I currently run with three 25 spell pen gems; I've read that the 35 spell pen cloak chant is the best bang for the buck, but what's the suggested combination? If I replace a my back chant with the spell pen, and a spell pen gem with an agi, I gain 10 spell pen but lose 2 agi. Or do I just run with one gem and the back (but that drops me to only 60 spell pen). Is there a combo I'm not considering?
2. I'm following some advice I've found here and going with two one-handers. One with a chain, the other with...the 65 ap?
Thank you.

I personally go with the 2 20 spell pen gems and the 35 spell pen to cloak. Honestly when the stats are that small of a difference in Agi its not going to make a noticeable difference. But you need at least 75 spell pen. If you put the other in and gain the small bit of spell pen to make it 85 its not going to hurt, and probably help a small amount. I put my spell pen gems in my belt to grab socket.
Also the 2 1 hander thing is somewhat debateable I personally use 1 2h with massacre and put 3 points into deflection. It really just depends on you though. But I figure the extra parry couldn't hurt and my wing clips would hit slightly harder and I only stack 5% Hit so I'm not going to miss any rare OH swings.

The World of Warcraft Armory
That is the build I am currently arenaing with on my hunter in 3s. I chose it because of the extra damage reduction from aspect mastery. I also wanted points in BM so I can revive my pet if its killed. But here is my question. Is it worth while to lose scatter shot for the damage reduction. I havn't been able to tell much of a difference in the way matches go at my level which is 980 ranking. We started last week. Just hoping for some feedback on the build. Also a quick question how do you generally open shot wise? Do you go AS-serpent sting-Chim shot ... or do you start w/ the serpent chim shot ... just curious thanks in advanced.

I don't personally play MM and as such I might be the worst person to answer this particular question but it seems to me that as Chimera shot uses a portion of the DAMAGE DONE by Serpent sting that I'd open with serpent hope that it doesn't get dispelled and put up Arcane Aimed and then Chim. If they have a dispeller on the ball I don't think it would matter much because you'd have to use Serpent right before Chimera.

I PvP with a Survival Hunter, and he is about to purchase his Relentless melee weapon (got his ranged weapon a while back). However, he noticed that many other hunters advocate dual-wielding 1h weapons over a single 2h weapon. Why is that? I ran some numbers on the stats:
1-hander x 2 total stats:
176 stam
62 crit
78 resilience
202 AP
2 blue sockets
+16 AP socket bonuses
2-hander stats:
204 stam
74 crit
74 resilience
271 AP
1 red, 1 blue socket
+12 AP socket bonus
So the 2-hander has 28 more stam, 12 more crit, 4 less resilience, and 65 more AP (factoring in socket bonuses), plus socket color differences (red is better for straight damage). Assuming a 65 AP enchant to one of the 1-handers, and weapons chains on both the 2-hander and other 1-hander, that's still a fair difference. Factor in the Arena point cost (2-hander is 700 points cheaper), then I would also pick 2-hander weapons myself.
Looking it up through other threads, it seems very clear that raiding hunters prefer 2-hander weapons, as they confer better stat bonuses. It's only in the PvP thread that I see advocates of dual-wielding. What is the reason for this?
Edit:
Tier 2 PvP weapons are the same. The 2-hander has 32 more stam, 14 more crit, 14 more resilience, and 40 more AP (factoring in socket bonuses). In this case, the +65 AP enchant more than makes up for the difference in overall AP (excluding the socket color differences, which actually favor the 2-hander), but overall the 2-hander simply gives more, assuming weapon chains on both the 2-hander and a 1-hander.

Yes, the 2-handers gives better stats. I believe the reason some hunters choose to dualwield two 1H's, is that they can put weapon chain on it, and then free up 3 talent points from the 50% reduced disarm effect talent. They dont stack so it's a choice you have to make. What gives best damage? 3 talent points placed differently or the better stats from the 2H.
