[top]How to Submit an Article
[top]Introdution
This article aims to outline the process by which an article is submitted to the Theorycraft Think Tank. It does not give any information on how to write an article or abstract, simply the steps that take you from concept to product.
Note: this process is still under review.
[top]Submission Process- Contributors wishing to write an article must apply to the Authors usergroup, and submit an abstract to a screening editor. To apply to the Authors usergroup, go to your User Control Panel page, select Group Memberships at the bottom left, select the Authors user group and click "Apply". Along with your application you must submit an abstract; this should be be PMd to one of the two current screening editors. Applications without a supporting abstract will be denied.
- Screening editors: masanbol, Wraithlin.
- For more details about abstract formatting and screening, see here: Abstracts
- The initial submittor of an accepted TTT article is the primary author.
- Accepted Authors will be able to post in The Vetting Machine sub-forum:
Authors should post either their abstract, or a first draft of their complete article in The Vetting Machine. At this stage the article will be edited and critiqued until it is ready to for the TTT wiki.
We hope to soon include a guide to Wiki formatting and the standard layout of TTT articles.
The editing process is yet to be formalized, we hope at least one editor will shadow each project, checking content, style, and accuracy.
- Once completed the Article can be posted in the TTT, but will have to be approved by a TTT editor before it is visible to the public.
[top]Secondary Authors- If the primary author of an accepted article wishes for one more more secondary authors to support his article, particularly while it is still being worked upon in The Vetting Machine, then both the primary and the secondary author should PM one of the screening editors with the request:
- Screening editors: masanbol, Wraithlin.
- Secondary authors are not required to subit an abstract.

Well, by no means a complete guide, but here's the concise version I used to keep posted on the guild forums:

Aggro mechanics.
1) Pulling aggro. Mobs exhibit a certain stickiness to their current target. In order to switch to a new target:
--When the new target exceeds 110% of the current target's threat, if the new target is in the mob's melee range.
--When the new target exceeds 130% of the current target's threat, if the new target is not in the mob's melee range.
--Your threat is compared to the current target's threat (to see whether you've pulled aggro) anytime you perform an action or gain threat, but not at other times.
Example: Tank has 1000 threat. Warlock DPS'ing at range has 1300 threat, and pulls aggro. Mob runs over to Warlock. Tank will not pull aggro back off of Warlock until Tank has 1430 threat.
Example: Tank has 1000 threat. Priest at range has 1200 threat, and is safe. Warlock, who is standing next to Priest, reaches 1300 threat and pulls aggro. Warlock dies. Mob kills Priest (who would otherwise have been fine).
Example: Tank has 1000 threat. Priest at range has 800 threat, and is safe. Warlock, who is standing next to Priest, reaches 1300 threat and pulls aggro. As mob reaches Warlock, Warlock Soul Shatters down to 650 threat. One of Priest's HoT's ticks on someone in the raid, increasing Priest to 801 threat. This causes mob to notice that Priest has more than 110% of Warlock's (his current target's) threat. Mob turns to Priest and starts attacking. Tank, even though he has the most threat, does not get aggro back until he reaches the mob and hits it.
Example: Tank has 1000 threat. Warlock at range has 600 threat, and Priest, standing next to Warlock, has 500 threat. Tank gets Feared, making him an ineligible target. Mob runs after Warlock, his highest-threat target. Warlock Soul Shatters down to 300 threat. Priest's HoT ticks, taking aggro from Warlock. Fear breaks, but mob remains on Priest. Tank casts Battle Shout, causing mob to notice that Tank has more than 130% of Priest's threat, and mob runs back to Tank.
2) Taunt.
Taunt, Growl, and Righteous Defense do something that no other abilities in the game do. When you Taunt a mob:
A) The mob attacks you for three seconds (an ability also mimicked by Mocking Blow, etc.)
B) You are instantly given enough permanent threat to make your threat equal to that of the mob's previous target.
C) You are mob's new target, for purposes of the 10/30% rules.

For the threat thing, you should include Rogues, Druids in cat form and such natural threat modifiers. Also, for B) under taunt you should make it clear you cannot get lower threat if you are taunting off someone who has agro but is lower then you are. (at least that is how I understand it to work.
There should be a part on how healing has threat compared to damage as well.

Yeah, that's why I said is isn't complete. Most of us know all those basic facts, but nobody (including me) has typed them out here. I can imagine you can pull the relevant info right from Kenco's thesis.

I have this included in my tanking guide, and kenco's guide to threat by whiteknight is good as well.

I think the limitations of the system are pretty well indentified (at least by me). What part of the process is still cloudy at this point?

(For now) Including a link to http://www.nuhit.com/forums/nuwiki-d...ki-syntax.html and possibly http://www.forkosh.dreamhost.com/sou...x.html#preview could be useful.
It might also be worth noting that disabling your signature should be done when submitting an article. While I'm unsure if that's only an issue if you're previewing the article, when I was previewing my revised version of the Protection Paladin post the footnotes I had included were duplicated while I had my signature active. That fixed itself when I disabled my signature.
Also if you triple stack headers (So you get section 1.1.1 for example), the standard settings for the font becomes extremely small. You can work around this by using:
[/size="3"]======Example header======[/size]
There's also some quirks that putting any formatting tags within a header will cause the header to break.

The NuWiki, Wiki-Tex etc should all go into a separate article on article formatting and layout.
All those are good points, but really we need someone to put together a formatting guide with that information presented as part of the whole process.

Is there a Warlock entry being worked on currently (mainly in the Vetting Machine, I'm wondering)?

There are currently zero articles in VM, mostly because there are very few "author" class users.

Two. I don't think we need to pre-populate everything. Class articles in particular can be added over time, especially as viable builds and talent trees change.
Really, the important things to get hammered out now are the actual process and procedure articles.

At this point Id say the procedure is set enough we can start.
This thread and the one in the ECabal have not been touched with any new ideas in several weeks.
