One thing I am finding the sheet missing is the hurricane enchant as the maelstrom crystals aren't in readily available supply yet for a lot of servers.

About the Grounded Plasma Shield tinker, it can misfire during raids, had it happen to me during the Valonia & Theralion encounter in Bastion of Twilight.
WoL Report

Works great most of the time, but 3 misfires in maybe 20 uses makes me want to take it off my Barkskin macro.

is great for dungeons...

Hi Hamlet,

I have some problems with wrathcalc.
System: Windows 7, Open Office 3.3RC

the version 101204 (normal and no tables) seem to do not allow gemming. ERR502
meta gems are ok...but not the normal gems.

Are you aware of this problem?
Can anyone confirm it?
Is there any workaround?

and another thing which probably is not interlinked...I am always asked when I open the sheet if I want to load files connected/referenced files/tables to this spreadsheet. (I tried all options but doesnt solve the problem.)

/Cheers

Hello,

Was wondering if it's worth refreshing the SUNFIRE DOT right before solar eclipse ends? And refreshing insect swarm?

Also, other than when Starsurge procs, if one is in a Solar eclipse, I'm seeing on some Training Dummy testing that it's better off to wait until Solar is just about over, then use the eclipse to get to Lunar faster.... Starsurge will act as either arcane or nature, but while not in an eclipse state our dps drops significantly.

I read an earlier post about starting boss fights with an eclipse already proc'd. I've been doing that, and wondering every time, what other class has to reserve spell on fights to get ready for a boss? I've seen this be a 2K dps or more swing.

I know this has been brought up many places, but I still believe the Theralion's Mirror (and Heroic) are being modeled incorrectly. In order to make this less confusing, I'll deal with the Heroic version only.

WrathCalcs is valuing the proc at =2178*20/100, which values it the same as a static gain of 435.6 Mastery.

If it was a static 435 Mastery, this would be fine, as the spreadsheet already takes into account that it only benefits spells while in Eclipse.

Due to the fact that it is a proc, you would expect to only gain benefit from that proc when it happens to line up with Eclipse. Effectively, the proc only has ANY value during the % of combat under which you are in one of the two states of Eclipse and therefore needs to have Eclipse uptime added to the forumla.

A more realistic model of the proc would be =2178*20/100*(Rotation!I39 (Solar Uptime) +Rotation!$I$40 (Lunar Uptime))

Modeling aside, leave Mirror for a class that can better utilize it and go get yourself Heart and Bell.

Mastery already only gives a bonus during Eclipse uptime (in the sheet). So when the sheet adds 435.6 mastery, the result is that the corresponding damage bonus is added to Eclipsed spells only.

Put differently, an Eclipsed spell has a 1/5 chance of having 1926 mastery at the time it's cast--so the sheet gives it 435.6 instead.

So even the "no tables" version is broken in OpenOffice? What exactly isn't working (i.e. which cells)? If you could unhide the computation columns in the front page you might be able to see more of what's broken.

WrathCalcs vs Rawr

In case you haven't seen, Rawr (http://elitistjerks.com/rawr.php) also has a usable Moonkin module. A brief try makes me think it's giving sane results. One interesting thing to note is that the optimizer goes against the standard gemming/enchanting advice by favoring crit over haste beyond the haste breakpoint at around 1425 (which is the highest breakpoint I can reach with my equipment at the moment). This seems reasonable, although I'm not completely sure it's right; it isn't consistent with the advice of WrathCalcs. It also suggests a Ember Shadowspirit Diamond over a Chaotic Shadowspirit Diamond, against standard advice; I haven't looked closely into why.

The one thing worth watching out for if you try it is that there's something strange about its OOM predictions; for my equipment/talents/glyphs, it predicts going OOM in under 5 minutes, whereas WrathCalcs predicts something more like 15 minutes, and I've never gotten anywhere close to going OOM in practice (although I haven't done any serious raiding yet). Because of that, if anyone else is trying it, I would suggest telling it to optimize for burst damage, as opposed to overall damage.

I haven't looked at Rawr at all since its 4.0 update. It was good in the past, and I used it to organize my own gear often. I might have less need to do so now that WC has more item-selection options. Crit being favored over haste is a suspicious result, but I can't say more without looking at Rawr in detail.

Finally I can write in threads.. Have you been able to locate and fix the problems? Its mainly, as said the gems that turns up with Err:502 and some reforging is bugged as well.. Tell me how I can help you locate the error and I'll do it : D

All about Thorns

I'd appreciate it if I could get some clarification on the use of Thorns as noted in the TTT.

Folks seemed to be speculating back in November that once the nerf to Thorns went in effect in 4.0.3a, it would no longer be worth casting on CD. After searching the Druid forums, as well as on a variety of other Balance sites, I still can't find any discussion/theorycraft that determined this was incorrect, and that it should remain a part of our rotation. If I've somehow missed the relevant threads/posts, and subsequently am looking like a complete moron, please point me in the right direction.

If I didn't miss this discussion, what is the community doing right now? Always casting thorns on CD? Potential mana issues with this? Or, as Graylo comments in his guide, more situational use for initial pulls and AoE? Trash vs bosses?

Apologies if this is more appropriate post for the Balance Cataclysm thread. My question relates to the contents of the TTT article, so I thought it best to put it here.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Is it a BUG?

i have used wrathcalcs for a long time to improve and test my boomkin's dps, but the lastest vesion seems to have some bug?
I set '5% Crit Chance:' in 'Raid Buffs/Debuffs' to be false, then all the data which is 'XXXDPS' appears to be abnormal.
for example, 1 point int provide like 892DPS????

Whenever possible, evaluate trinkets using the same metric you would any other item. Compute the average uptime of the proc or use effect to obtain an average stat value. WrathCalcs now gives good estimates of most trinkets.

The best two trinkets at the tier 11 level are [Heart of Ignacious] and [Theralion's Mirror]. [Bell of Enraging Resonance] and [Witching Hourglass] are also good.

Note that WrathCalcs will occasionally overvalue some trinkets with haste procs (such as [Witching Hourglass]), if you happen to be be near a DoT breakpoint. This is something that needs to be addressed in a later version. For now, just be suspicious if it tells you that [Witching Hourglass] is much better than epic trinkets.
I think this needs two adjustments:
First off the JC rare trinket is definitely worth mentioning. Even in full BiS gear, the spreadsheet shows it as superior than Witching Hourglass and most 359 trinkets. At lower gear levels it's even better than that.
Secondly, WrathCalcs doesn't seem to include the Darkmoon Card: Volcano yet and my own calculations show it as comparable or even superior to 372 Theralion's Mirror.
EDIT: I've checked WrathCalcs again. It does include DC:V but with a 12/60 uptime which is way below its actual uptime. The proc DPS is also way too low.

In my own spreadsheet (which is way too messy to be released) DC:Volcano is by far the strongest Moonkin trinket right now with the JC rare trinket as second for low gear levels and the heart of ignacious as second for high gear levels. Here's some quick napkin maths on DC:Volcano:

Assumption: 1 cast every 1.7 seconds on average

DC:Volcano
Passive(Reforged): 128.4 Haste, 192.6 Mastery
Proc: 1200 (shows as ~2000 for my druid actually and is increased by debuffs) instant damage and 1600 Int for 12 sec with 45 sec ICD (according to wowhead comments but also confirmed myself) and 35% proc chance
Proc average: 1600*12/(45+1/0.35*1.7)=~385.1 Int and a minimum of 2000/(45+1/0.35*1.7)=~40.11 DPS
Total: 385.1 Int, 192.6 Mastery, 128.4 Haste, 40.11 DPS

Theralion's Mirror (372)
Passive: 363 Int
Proc: 2178 mastery for 20 sec with 100 sec ICD and 10% proc chance
Proc average: 2178*20/(100+1/0.1*1.7)=~372.3 mastery
Total: 363 Int, 372.3 Mastery

In a table form:
Volcano Mirror Difference
Int 385.1 363 -22.1
Mastery 192.6 372.3 +179.7
Haste 128.4 0 -128.4
Proc DPS 40.11 0 -40.11

With current stat values, 22.1 Int and 128.4 Haste are easily better than 179.7 Mastery, and that's not even including that DC:Volcano has an additional minimum of 40.11 proc DPS.
And if you include that actual uptime of both trinkets will be higher than their average on any fight (because they can proc instantly), DC:Volcano becomes even better because more average Int is way more better than more average Mastery.

If you find any errors in my calculations, please correct me. I've purposefully not included any speculation about when exactly Theralion's Mirror procs. Its low 10% proc chance makes it impossible to adjust your rotation to its ICD or purposefully proc it at a specific point of time without losing way more DPS by messing up your rotation than you'd gain by the better used proc so the average benefit is going to be close to real world benefit. This is also not including the absolute ~5k mana you get from the passive Int of Theralion's Mirror but you can easily more than double that mana benefit by using Innervate on youself once DC:Volcano procs if you really need the mana.

And just by the way, Rawr seems to overvalue all items with a mana benefit even when it shows you as never going OOM. I wouldn't take its suggestions very seriously right now.
