This is probably working as intended as the Blood Shield has never been affected by healing buffs/debuffs.

Based on the other tank 4 piece bonuses, I'd say it's a "bug".

Blood Shield is based directly on the 20% of damage taken, or the 7% of maximum health, heal from death strike. So unless it's specifically coded to affect death strike's basic healing formula, (like the old improved death strike / Scent of Blood) Blood Shield ignores it. So the set bonus is likely an oversight, but who knows if it'll get fixed.

I know that VP is not affecting blood shield either, which is weird based on our mastery description:

"Each time you heal yourself with Death Strike while in Blood Presence, you gain 50% of the amount healed as a Physical damage absorption shield."

On Grand Empress for example, death strike heal did 15% of my self healing. So that set is worth ~1,5% self healing increase? It seems incredibly low for a 4set bonus, you know...

"Your ticket has been escalated" - still waiting for GM confirmation, no ETA this time...

EDIT: GM didn't know if it's a bug or not, and told me to report it as a bug and see what happens. At that point I think we can assume that it is working as intended and it's the worst 4 set bonus of all tank specs.

I think there's a mistake in the section Balancing out Dodge and Parry, where you say
Reniat compiled a macro for us that will print out how much parry rating is ideal for your current dodge values

Since making the comments here I made a couple macros for my guide that will tell you how much parry % you have based on how much dodge% you currently have.
So it should be %, not rating. I got a bit confused for a sec.

Definitely a bug, seems to be fixed in 5.1

Yes, but since the implementation of the mastery things like vampiric blood (40% increased healing) and mortal strike (50% less healing), have never affected the blood shield, the shield you would end up getting was always one as it the heal had neither been buffed/debuffed, now, I am not denying that if it is not a bug, it does make the 4 piece rather weak, but it makes one wonder if it has been bugged into relation of all of those things since the beginning.

Blood Shield being affected by healing buffs / de-buffs would cause all kinds of balancing problems. It's probably for the best that it isn't affected by them.

Just looking at this tier alone, theres Touch of the Titans on Elegon and Cleansing Waters on Protectors of the Endless. We really don't need +50% to Blood Shield on these encounters. At the same time it would make bosses with significant mortal strike effects, "Blood DK Killers". All of our staple abilities would end up weak, or useless. As is, we can at least depend on Blood Shield for mortal strike encounters.

would you switch from 496 gear to the 483 lfr set for the set bonus(es)? i can't really decide but i think it's not really worth it.

The 2pc is amazing. knocking 20s off VB's cd is awesome. The 4pc is less amazing, but still worth it if you are doing any content that can be remotely bursty. If you aren't doing damaging content then the added raw heal doesn't really get as much value. especially when you factor in the ~800 mastery lost from using the poorly itemized tier pieces (compared to better itemized non-tier raid pieces with mastery on them).

TL;DR
the 2pc is definetely worth getting. the 4pc depends on the content you are doing.

Just for clarification, does this mean you tested it on the PTR before the patch went live? I can't find it in the patch notes anywhere.

From what I see in game our 4 set bonus has been fixed, even though they didn't say a word about it in patch notes or hotfixes. I did some tests on a dummy, and it seems that I always get absorb as high as I should with 4 set bonus healing included.

This makes it again a VERY good bonus.

Can someone explain this to me: even when my deathstrike misses or is dodged, i still get a heal, but it is smaller than the heal i would get if the ability would land - about 60-70%. I can understand deathstrikes not healing if they miss, i can understand them healing even if the ability does miss, but what's this 60-70% heal then? Can anyone explain the actual current mechanics regarding death strike hit/miss/dodge?

My testing confirms that missed/dodged Death Strikes don't interact with Scent of Blood (they neither consume the stacks nor benefit from them).

Has anyone else noticed that Dancing Rune Weapon is behaving strangely recently?
Physical damage copied by DRW is only doing half as much damage as it should be whereas our spells like Death Coil, Blood Boil and Soul Reaper's shadow portion is still doing full damage.

I wonder if this is just a bug or if DRW actually got a stealth nerf here?
