As a new DK tank, should I worry about dot clipping or just try and keep diseases up 100% of the time?

Agility

I've recently begun using RAWR to find the best gear upgrades available to me, however most of the upgrades have, not strength, but agility. I've scoured the internet for information on agility and DKs but all I've come across are agility classes complaining about DKs rolling on agi gear. If strength is a better stat for me, should I ignore all upgrades with agi instead of str? Even the Ashen Verdict ring says the agi one would be an upgrade from the str band.

If threat is a big concern, then the rune you use to clip your Blood Plague may be better used for another attack (death strike, heart strike, blood strike, obliterate depending on if it's an Unholy or Death rune). However, you may well find yourself in a situation where you'll be using Icy Touch for burst threat and in that case you will be clipping your Frost Fever DoT, but the threat gain from Icy Touch itself will outweigh any threat gains/losses from a clipped Frost Fever.

Generally, you shouldn't be too concerned about DoT clipping - just aim to have them up 100% of the time. I don't know what spec you tank in, but for Blood, I find it comforting to know that I have my DoTs up in case I need to substitute in a Death Strike for self-heals. I try not to let my diseases fall off, even if that means I need to refresh them a bit earlier than normal. Unless it's an abnormal situation, if I refresh one disease, I refresh the other as well just to keep the consistency and keep the "pair" of runes (F-U) going.

Also, just to be thorough, if you use the Glyph of Disease, assuming you are Blood and have Death Rune Mastery, managing your disease uptime should be relatively simple so clipping shouldn't be a problem (even if it does occur).

I am having problems using Army of the Dead. Normally I like to get all my buffs up at the start of the fight, then pop a Potion of Speed and cast Gargoyle & AotD. I find that when I do this, AotD almost always immediately cancels itself, but still uses up the runes & cooldown which costs me a ton of dps. For example, from last night's log:

[22:58:38.018] Suzaku gains Army of the Dead from Suzaku
[22:58:38.018] Suzaku casts Army of the Dead
[22:58:38.018] Suzaku's Advantage is refreshed by Suzaku
[22:58:38.018] Edaws casts Obliterate on Sindragosa
[22:58:38.018] Shelby casts Claw on Sindragosa
[22:58:38.018] Suzaku's Army of the Dead fades

There was nothing that interrupted the cast, and I did not move while casting. This seems to happen only when I try to cast AotD after using a Potion of Speed. I have no problems using AotD mid-fight when I don't have a haste buff.

If anyone could shed some light on this, that would be great.

are you using a macro, and by chance is there a stopcast written in or something of the like?

No, I don't use a macro for AotD. It is just a straight cast.

I tested using a Potion of Speed on a dummy and then using AotD and there were no problems. It seems to only happen in a raid when I try to do it in the middle of a fight.

This was discussed in the Unholy thread a while back and it has something to do with Chill of the Throne debuff. Please do a search next time.

Discussion regarding AotD interruption is around there.

I actually have a quick question. May seem noobish, but in regards to Hysteria. I always give it to a dps, seems pointless to use it on myself as I don't have threat problems. Which is it more beneficial to give it to, a rogue or feral druid? They're both on pretty even ground in terms of gear, obviously the rogue pulls out ahead on single target fights but not by much. I've always given it to the druid, but lately the rogue is crying about it.

A fair portion of a rogues damage is nature damage from their poisons which is not affected by hysteria. Ferals are almost entirely physical damage and have a cooldown (Beserk) which stacks very well with Hysteria. So as long as the feral druid is making full use of Hysteria by Beserking with it (they have the same CD) then it is best used on them.

While viewing the forum in thread view, look in the bottom left of the page (you may have to scroll). See the selection frame that says 1 month? You can change that to show threads from the beginning, the last week, the last day... On a forum as large as EJ it's useful to cut down the initial clutter when you hit a forum by having it set to only show the recent activity, but if you want to see everything you still can.

First star to the right, and straight on till morning.

I'm normally frost but I've decided to do Unholy for the shadowmourne questline. I know the generalized rotation from the unholy thread seems pretty straightforward but sometimes it will get messed up due to movement, etc. Often times I find my diseases falling off in a few seconds and I have a pair of UF runes deep into cool-down and another pair ready to use right now. Should I A, scourge strike now and let the diseases fall off and reapply them later with some deathcoils/bloodstrikes in between, B, reapply the diseases right away and risk clipping them, or C hold off on the currently available UF runes until the diseases fall off and reapply them right as they fall off, using a DC or two in between if there is enough time? Thank you for your time.

I'm currently hit capped, about 8.11%, and my expertise is still lagging a bit behind. I can augment that a bit with +exp food, but I was looking at Rawr and it appears that armor pen is offering a bigger threat gain than expertise. I haven't tried any of the other downloadable stat optimizers, but the DK FAQ mentions Expertise in the 'threat generation' section but nothing of armor pen. Am I missing something? I'm well beyond def capped, my effective health is plenty adequate, and I'm looking to focus on getting my threat gen up, so should I be focusing on expertise or armor pen? If expertise, why is Rawr telling me armor pen's better (flaw in Rawr?)

If this has been discussed already, I apologize. I couldn't find anything by search Feel free to PM me with a link to the answer and I'll read that instead. Thanks!

Kow, first ask yourself - do you have any problems with single target aggro? If not, then it doesn't matter if ArPen is better than Expertise.

But, I would go for Expertise because some bosses do parry-haste. Especially Sindragosa and Halion do parry-haste and can cause problem if you got parried a lot.
