I have found SS to not only offer the additional percentage of avoidance, but also the flexibility to swap to another runeforge like Spellshattering, FC, or even SG without losing uncrittability and having to regear/gem. I am not saying that those other runeforges are necesary in any encounter (mainly Spellshattering and FC) but not being tied a runeforge without the need to regear in some way is nice.

I was fooling around with this build on the ptr:

UH Threat Build - Shadow spec.

I was using PS spam, the rp generation mirrored shadowfrost. Was wondering if anyone else decided to go that route?

I'm going to be going with the 10/51/10 Frost spec posted a few pages back in this thread. I have found Frost a superior tanking spec to Unholy, both in terms of mitigation and in the ability to pick up adds (Howling Blast)

I've decided to go frost for tanking (since I was a frost tank prior to re-speccing as dps), and I'm a bit torn on the last few talent points outside the 51 in frost. (And actually, I'm curious about the 10/51/10 spec posted earlier that only went 4/5 in killing machine in exchange for 1 point in Hungering Cold. Has HC become an actually useful talent now?)

What I'm currently looking at: 10/51/10 because I do like the DnD on shorter cooldown for morbidity, but with the new changes to Scent of Blood, I feel like I shouldn't be missing it in my spec. The alternate specs I'm considering are 13/51/7 & 12/51/8.

Questions:
- Is Scent of Blood worth sacrificing points in other talents for? Any frost tanks on the PTR experimented with taking/not taking this talent? I'm especially considering dropping the 3/3 in morbidity for the first time and hoping that blood boil will be good enough to pick up the slack of a DnD on longer cooldown.
- With the new 15-second diseases, is it still worthwhile to pick up 2 points in virulence? Or just put 1 point (or even none) in the talent? Specifically, dropping those 2 points (provided I also drop the 3 points in morbidity) would allow me to pick up the 2H specialization talent in blood for a build like the one Lucke posted.

I'm a new 80, so I expect to spend more time tanking heroics for the guild and aoe-tanking rather than MTing. So I'm wondering if I should sacrifice some threat talents like bladed barrier/2H specialization for morbidity or if I'm okay with dropping morbidity.

I believe this will be my Spec going live today. 15/51/5

http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?deat...4&version=9767

Killing machine, and Death Chill gives my howling blast and pestilence/bb pretty much godlike AE threat. Frost dominates this category.

Pretty Much everything else in the spec gives single target threat bonus. Scent of blood, Glyphs, the works.

I haven't really kept up on the tanking side of things which is making me a sad panda now because with the duel spec in game, I've been asked to pick up tank spec as my duel for back up reasons only.

Now, I've seriously done fine having to MT very rarely as my DPS self and just swapping gear and presence. And OT, can handle that in an oh shit situation.

I've went back 20+ pages so far and I see a lot of different specs for tanking being thrown out and talked about, but nothing definitive as the top winner of choice. Anyone have suggestions on what build I should go with, keeping in mind that I am a top DPS'r and I only OT on certain bosses when we are short on tanks for the night.

For the record: The patch note about Scent of Blood is correct. It does generate 10 RP per charge and has no internal cooldown. It is simply the talent tooltip which is mistaken.

Anyways, although it has been stated before and I'm sure will be asked and inevitably stated again, there is no 'winner of choice' when it comes to tanking specs. All three - blood, frost, unholy - are perfectly viable, at both aoe (new bloodboil for blood, howling blast as always for frost, and unholy blight and wandering plague for unholy) and at single target (same as always for all of them, just better!) threat. From a mitigation perspective, each have their ups and downs. Blood is my personal preference, but there is no 'best' spec, and no point in asking for such.

Now I'm just a bit torn about discretionary points for everything.
Impurity or Desecration or both and forgo necrosis/bcb?
Imp AMS?
Bladed armor and 2h spec worth it for the threat?
How about Toughness?
Forgo Gargoyle? More in Wandering Plague?
Do we really need Imp Icy Touch to get it to a full 20% slow?
Max SoB?

I personally like to spec for "all rounder" if I'm tanking, and in terms of my situation anything works cause I rarely tank beyond heroics (never had to MT for a raid yet, not likely in the near future either), but I still like to know what I'm looking at in terms of easy numbers.
I'm personally liking this one though
Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft
Might go with it unless someone finds something blazingly wrong with it.

Impurity or Desecration or both and forgo necrosis/bcb? => Impurity > Desecration = Necrosis > BcB imo
Imp AMS? => maybe on some fights, but not on you're main spec i think
Bladed armor and 2h spec worth it for the threat? => Bladed Armor for the moment, maybe 2h spec will be better when you'll got a 232 dps wep
How about Toughness? => a must have imo
Forgo Gargoyle? More in Wandering Plague? => Gargoyle is a dps tool, it doesn't generate threat, so a little bit useless for tanking. Wandering Plague isn't that usefull with the low crit rate of tank gear... go for necrosis and BcB i think
Do we really need Imp Icy Touch to get it to a full 20% slow? => i don't think so. Personnaly i put 2 points here because i have nothing better, but it isn't a must have to me
Max SoB? => Definitly yes.

Re

Current spec i'm trying out

My tanking build
-The one point in epidemic is just because I was a second or two off hitting the 4th oblit...so figure I would test it out

I was thinking about going this as tankbuild 55/5/11 I know I don´t have Annihilation but I thought I toss the Obliterate on the end of the diseases and then renew them and spamming HS in between.

also I was wondering if this 0/52/19 which is a dw dps build would work in trash mobs assuming I dw tanking weaps or would I take too much beating without anticipation and toughness? I´m usually the MT but we run with 3 tankadins almost all times to raid, but question would be if I would overaggro them and take too many mobs on me in dps build? (tanking gear ofc, I know TPS in dps gear and frost presence is insane :P)

Why would you use a DPS build to tank or a Tank build to DPS?

Why not simply have one DPS build that you DPS in, and one Tank build that you tank in?

well it´s just that I think that the blood tank build kinda sucks in AoE threat but works excellent on bosses.
sometimes ppl in raid overaggro on trashmobs. i.e rogues :P and complain about untanked mobs. in those cases the HB would be helpful in keeping tank aggro. in anyway it was just a wondering if.

Darknae,
The new blood tree now enhance Death Strike with Improved Death Strike and Might of Mograine. You shouldn't use Obliterate.

Blood: 54/7/10 Is the build I was going with in Ulduar last night.

Overall I was rather satisfied with the build (for what my guild managed to accomplish before a few server resets). I, in a raid setting, did not realize how beneficial DS was while tanking until tonight. Take the adds on Razorscale, it was pretty easy to control most of them at once just with the self heals from DS (using empowered rune weapon when I got dangerously low on health). I think my Max DS heal was 15.7K last night.

Now the only thing I'm not entirely sure if it was intended, or just a bug with lag and whatnot was with Scent Of Blood (as well as having Rune Strike macro'd to every ability) I stayed above 100 RP the entire night unless I decided to do a DC Rune Dump. If that much RP is intended from that talent, that's awesome, but I'll have to test that more tonight on a more "stable" setting.

I will also say, in my opinion, with the Blood Boil Changes being able to control AOE threat as blood is rather laughable, especially with 4 Death Runes and 2 Blood Runes, BB was hitting mobs on average for close to 1.1k minimum a piece last night (non-crit).

I am thinking of replacing my Rune Strike glyph with the Glyph Of Disease. Thinking from a threat standpoint having that extra rune to HS/DS is more important than a chance glyph? (Or thinking of replacing Vamp Blood instead). Not entirely sure what I will be going with yet.
