The idea of my UI has been seen before, Sympa made up the idea with the informations on the right side of the screen.
I tried to get rid of as many things as i could. I do not have my actionbar visible - only a few important skills such as Ghoul, AoTD, Garg, Trinkets, UB, Macros etc. Below the minimap i have two icons displaying whenever i don't have horn/bone shield on (TellMeWhen).
Why i like it? I have to focus on my cooldowns, runes and still i have to focus on whats going on while fighting. I have caught my self screwing up to much when im either looking down at the buttom on the screen at my runes, or on the top. This works for me :-)
Grid is annoying as hell. I hate the way it's set up, but I love the way some people can make it look. So, I spent a good hour or two today going over every single nook and cranny and have made some headway with it, however, I still have yet to see an option that allows me to simply drain health from right to left as opposed to the standard top to bottom draining system. (I'd also love to be able to drain mana instead of health from caster's, but I'm assuming that's a bit too in-depth for Grid.)
I have Grid set to drain from right to left. I can't think of the setting right now, but I'll post how once the servers are back up. Also make sure to get Grid Mana Bars for the Mana thing you're talking about.
I'm a clicker at heart so I'm used to everything being right there below my toon and I've never changed it. Combat info to the right for easy glancing as needed.
Addons (not including things like DBM, group calendar, etc):

Thanks (in advance) for the Grid help. I'm curious, have you tried out the mana bars thing yourself? The feedback underneath the add-on does not seem to be very positive, and it isn't updated for 3.1, I'm curious as to whether or not that will allow it to work.

OK here's how to make them right to left.

Also my grid mana bars is working, not sure why some other people are having problems.
Of late I have found the Power Auras addon a nice visual way to alert me to procs such as killing machine and freezing fog. This is not to say that I was missing these through the normal methods, such as having the relevant timers appear in NtK or watching the buff appear, but I wanted a more obvious fallback for when my attention is otherwise occupied with some mechanic in an encounter. I'm using Power Auras to light up HUD-like in a large portion of the screen when I get procs and this is proving a nice feature to have.
Other tweaks to my ui in general have been a general tidying up and re-arranging of things to ensure my attention never strays too far from the heart of the action; where before I would need to glance down to bars for keeping an eye on my rotation and cooldown use. The basic use of Magic Runes, used to simply show which runes are available, while fading out those on cooldown with a relevant timer overlaid, continues to serve me well (I have tried other systems such as bars, but always seem to come back to this).
Otherwise non-dk specific stuffs. I have always favored basic buff displays with mm:ss timers, over list-like buff timer mods, which I find take up too much space (the timers on the basic buff frame addons tell you duration without the need for a large set of bars). Dominos for action bars is still a mainstay, as I find it the easiest to tweak and the quick keybind assignment options are very nice. It's probably also worth to say that Pitbull4 has allowed me to do some pretty nifty tweaking of the unit frames and aura displays.
I use XPerl and recently got the Sigil of Deflection. When the buff is up, my unit frames believe I am dead, as the buff is called "Shadow of Death." Does anyone know how to fix this?
Stop using the failure that is XPerl. If the addon author hasn't updated it since SoD was removed as a DK skill then you'll be better served by putting in the hour it takes to learn Pitbull4 or the basic lua editing in an oUF layout.
[IMG]picture[IMG] Thanks to Sympa for the concept, and idea.

Why on the right instead of the left? As a native english speaker a left-to-right alignment would seem to me to be the most natural towards preventing tunnel visioning, as it would habitual to glance left to right as you gather your information concerning cooldowns, runes, and whatever bad circular fight mechanic you are about to be standing in.
For this setup I use:
SunArt Viewport
X-Perl Unit Frames
Bartender 4
Prat
Sexy Map
Omen
Recount
DBM
Bison (buff handler)
ErrorMonster (eats all the red error messages...you know the annoying red lines that fill your screen)
Titan Panel (hidden until mouse over)
PowerAuras (Nothing active in Screen Shot. Placed to the right of target of target)
SCT (incoming damage/heals over player frame, outgoing damage/power gains/dodge/miss/parry on right over Target frame)
Call me stupid, but I can't figure how to set up NeedToKnow, and explanations I've read are not great (guess maybe because english is not my main language, who knows)
I entered by Frost Fever and Blood Plague, and it seems to not triger anything, and yes it,s set on target, and I tried a few variation.
I used to use Scrolling Combat Text to do that, until we had another DK in the raid and noticed it was tracking his diseases as well, so not too useful to know when to refresh yours. But I really enjoyed having audio alerts, as I have enough things to do without having to watch cooldowns.

here you go, I always like visuals for stuff like this so here you go! Hope it helps.
1 unlock needtoknow .
2 right click on the bar and go to “Choose buff/debuff to time “.
3 enter the name of the buff/debuff ex. Frost Fever.
4 right click on the bar again and set Buff or Debuff for Frost Fever set to Debuff .
5 set unit to monitor to Target.
6 Done!
Great UI compliation. I was hoping you could tell me which mod is putting the single icon just to the upper right of the minimap...it usually has the number "58" in it.
@Bungie / Exige: Really nice layout here, just responding since you actually asked for thoughts. Overall I really enjoy the layout and styling. I do feel it may become a bit complex in a fast reaction-time-requiring-situation however That can be easily remedied with a bit of time to get used to the UI or a bit of different spacing. Moving on I would recommend involving recount more in your UI. As it is it seems static and off to the left, which may or may not be a good thing. On the aesthetic side it seems a bit dull to just leave it there like an ugly step child. However on the function side I can understand not wanting to involve something purely informational and non combat based with other bars and frames involved in split second decisions. Due to the cooldowns you have being displayed I'm going to venture a wild guess that you are a tanking dk. I'm a bit surprised not to see omen or some other threat mod used which got me thinking again about recount. There is a threat module for recount which basically turns it into omen ic and recount ooc. This may also help you incorporate the addon a bit more into your core vertical column of information. Good luck.
As an aside, I feel this topic has decayed a bit from its original purpose of fleshing out how best to represent DK information. Most of the strategies have been fleshed out and there is no real new information being generated. Feel free to use this as a simple UI thread for dks as it appears many of you already are.
I have to say that is undoubtedly sexy and looks functional as well. As a tank, where do you display damage done to you in an easy-to-see fashion? Or do you aside from your unit frame? It also looks like you have a lot of repetitive information, such as damage done in the lower right as well as to the right of your character, which I am curious about. A final question is do you have trinket effects listed anywhere? In your cooldown timer block perhaps?
Is there any chance you could bundle your UI or at least post your PitBull code? As I am a PitBull failure that would probably be the most time-intensive part of trying to create a similar setup, which I would very much like to do.

Very nice looking UI you have there. I think I am going to give SunArt a try - I like the mini map off to the right. currently have mine in the bottom center where the vehicle UI tends to cover it up... If you happen to have a raid - fight screenshot with the SCT in action I would love to see it.
My UI for my DK using
Runevolution
Classtimer
Pitbull Unit Frames
InQuest
Skinner
Cowtip
ButtonFacade (Apathy)
Chincilla Minimap
Recount
Omen
Fubar
Elkbuffbars
I think the Screenshot is pretty much selfexplanatory. For those unfamiliar with Power Auras: those textures only show when the said conditions are met.
The bar at the bottom is configured with Bartender4 and Kgpanels in the background. Chat has been altered with Chatter. Not visible is a set of bars from Needtoknow. This addon displays three different bars directly below Magicrunes that give countdowns for both diseases and Ghoulfrenzy. My version is still a little buggy with other Dks in the raid but so far I've managed around that.
The initial intent was to stack all the relevant information as closely as possible to the character. My recent changes were more directed at clearing up the view and making it more visually appealing. Omen and Recount are still a little large in my oppinion.
On a side note, I've managed to somehow drag my Power Auras control panel out of line of sight. If anyone has an idea how to retrace it, feel free to send me a Pm. Thank you very much.
Edit 2: Solved the issue. If you should encounter this problem go to WoW/WTF/Servername/Charactername/layout-local.txt and edit X and Y to 0 where it says
Frame: PowaOptionsFrame
FrameLevel: 11
Anchor: BOTTOMLEFT
X: 0
Y: 0
W: 328
H:
Edit 1: Ok. This is much, much better now. Omen, Recount and Chat scaled down considerably (harder to read now though)
It also demonstrates Pitbulls utility in displaying Raidframes (upper left corner).
Edit 3: This is my latest build.
If you look at the first screenshot inside the quotetags, you'll see what most means. I've scaled down some more things to improve the view. The Bone Shield is now displayed via the red shield and the Gargoyle turned into the turquoise arrow. I've added the six triangles. This texture now activates when neither Horn of Winter nor the shaman totem are present on me.
You can also see the Needtoknowbars. Those now also count the Greatness and Fallen Cruser Proccs. The new addon on the bottom right is TipTac. I've only found it today but it can do some neat stuff.
