I'm using the Magic Runes addon in between the two unit frames.
The textures are mostly original.
I'll be honest, I wish I had that kind of artistic skill. My question though, what does the recharge look like on your runes and where do your disease timers show up? Aesthetics is one thing, but I can't see the function in your UI.
I like that you enabled pet's target though, I never could work out the symmetry between left and right sides with the;
pet-player | target-targettarget layout.
Regarding my own UI, I've gone for a very simple layout with rune cooldowns and health bars close to the center, as seems to be the norm. I find that having to look around for my cooldowns actually forces me to move my eyes from the center of my screen allowing me to notice when I need to move or something isn't right. If I have everything in the center, I find that I tunnel vision more causing raid wipes on Grobbulus and Utgarde Pinnacle type fights.

It's utility functions perfectly for my playstyle, although I know I can't speak for anyone else. Generally, the only information I need to do my job is my cooldowns and the rune bars - which are both in the center and easy to see. It could probably be easily modified to fit the rest of the bars in, but I don't see the point when I have them all bound... actually having the bar there is redundant to me.
To get more precise timing on the runes, I highly recommend typing /dki and turning on rune slide (Port), and dragging it to the middle of your screen.
I just wanted to post this only because I've been toying around with it for a few days now and its kind of new and funky, not sure if it's a DPS improvement though!
I use various Power Aura's at the top of my screen with various conditionals. The 3 main top ones, Gargoyle, Bone Shield and Horn, are relatively self explanatory, there are in my face reminders that my buffs are missing or that I could use Gargoyle, I am terrible at forgetting to reuse him near the end of fights!
The 5 others, are for a kind of priority system I've been using. Howling blast shows if I have the Freezing Fog buff, then I have a reminder if Frost Fever is missing, the middle one, most important, can I cast Icy Touch. Then bloodstrike (but this only shows if icy touch is not possible, so I don't waste death runes). Then blood plague, and finally Death Coil if I have over 60 rune power, I am toying with this threshold as a reminder.
Anyway, it's nothing magical, but its a fun way, I never look at my action bars now, or spam buttons, I keep simplerune there because I love it as the above poster mentioned I couldn't use bars/timers etc. But even that could go if I get this feeling right.
On a side note, thanks for all the advice and information on these boards
Nothing special, I like to keep it as minimal as possible.
Things you dont see:
SCT for combat text
Omen appears in the bottom right grey box.
ECB for casting bars.
Because when I attempted to use that it was what I'll call 'FUBORKED' and just completely nonfunctional.
Works fine for me, use it to display boneshield/IBF/Lichborne/UA pretty much. Wish it showed Bone shield charges though. Talking about that, anyone knows an addon that can simply display the charges on it without anything else pretty much? I just want a floating number I can move(maybe with a scalable icon, don't care really) to put somewhere closer to the middle of my screen, it's annoying having to monitor my buffs on sartharion to find out if I should be ready to IBF next breath because I'm on last charge or if I'm good.

Classtimer is very good about giving me a duration/charges bar for BS that I can move as desired, stacked with any other buffs I choose to track. (Blight/IBF in this case.) I have mine floating roughly "overhead" between the bars of my HUD.

Yeah I meant something else than bars, I can use various addons to display bars, but I'd just like a numerical counter for charges, not the duration which is pretty useless. I guess I can just work something out with needtoknow was just wondering if there was something that could simply display a floating number for charges.
I use OpenRDX for a lot of my UI (unit frames, cast bars, lots of heavily tweaked buff/debuff information). One thing I've done with it is to make a floating number for bone shield charges by gutting all the other information out of the frame.
It's hard to sell such a large UI package, especially one with a huge learning curve, but needless to say it's quite possible, and it works better than bars (in my opinion). I also have a custom trigger with MSBT to flash a quick warning when Bone Shield fades.
I don't know a lot about the API, but I think you could make a floating number for the number of stacks left on a specific buff with very little code.

You can pretty easily do this with ElkBuffBars. Just white list Bone shield and set the bar text to hidden.

Well, I'm pretty sure it was called Classic, but try this link out Power Auras Classic : WoWInterface Downloads : Buff/Debuff/Spell Mods maybe the Curse one got corrupt or something. I don't remember having any issues with it and I get 99% of my mods just downloaded/updated with the Curse App. I can post an addon list or even host a zip of the folder if you would like and its any extra help.

Check the dog tags thread. There's something similar for the Shaman's Watershield. I've implemented that one, but haven't made a proper version for the Bone Shield yet. I -think- it's on the very first page, roughly half way.
It'll simply display a number of dots above your player frame equal to the amount of charges left.
Ignorance can be solved with a book. Stupidity requires a shotgun and a shovel.
Consolidating the thoughts of the posts a bit. The main thing we care about is simply runes and debuffs/self-casted buffs. My question then is how best to organize this information. I've seen a few screenshots with people using rune addons that display the runes in an icon format but the buffs/debuffs are not really that close to the runes. Just did this as a preliminary design subject to change but it seems to address the problem. I'll post to my blog when I have a more standardized design for it.

Can you link or post the entire UI that goes with that?

I think that'd require pitbull unitframes to run unless I'm mistake, which isn't very useful to me since I don't use pitbull, or unitframes in general(use a HUD). Thanks anyway.

That seems like a nice way to do it, I'll check it out, thanks.
Well, I changed almost all in my UI. Now it's a little more cute! I used Magic runes, and changed the background skin (made by myself this one too). And few things more
Its a SS in a raid, i think it's everything shown!
I try to keep a lot of information on my screen, to be there when I need it, but not to interfere in the game in any way. I try to keep things small and clean. Having built my UI over and over again, I tend to go bakc to a design where my chatbox is on the lower left corner, action bars in the middle and buffs in the upper right corner. My second alt (a dps class) taught me to put my own and my target's unit frames in the middle of the screen as well, and playing a shadowpriest for a long time taught the importance of dot timers.
Put always the most important stuff in the middle of the screen, and keep them big - you want them to be easily seen. Pitbull is awesome for unitframes, you can configure them almost as much as the old Discord... I too use MagicRunes for the runes, I've positioned them next to my unitframes for obvious reasons. NeedToKnow is my choice for the dot timers, they're simple and very configurable. I could use ElkBuffBars for it as well I guess, but I've grown so fond of NTK already, might be hard to leave them now.
I changed from Bongos to Dominos (which I didn't like) and then to Bartender4 (which I do). The two 3x4 bars on the right side are usually shown on mouseover, and only contain stuff I have bound to keyboard or very rarely need. I saw someone having his petbar next to his pet unitframe, and it seemed like a nice idea - I tried it, and it is.
I always need to have raidframes on my screen now (my old main was a priest), and grid does a good job there. Grid is small, configurable, and contains all the information you need in a quick glance. Omen and Recount in the right corner are pretty much self explanatory, as is SCT shown in the middle. This UI will work for alt healers when I need it to as well, Grid is just that good.
FuBar isn't as hot addon as it used to be, but I still like it. I usually only use the icons for the FuBar modules, but in some cases the text labels are there as well. If I need more detailed information, I can mouseover the icon, and I'll get what I want. oRA2 does a good job for MT targets, raid cooldowns (rebirths, soulstones, reincarnations etc) and acts as a resurrection monitor, all those three are located on the top of the screen. I should lock them, so the titles would disappear, but haven't gotten into it yet.
I started using Aloft for replacing the nameplates for mobs when I was tanking on my druid, and found out that it's pretty silly not to have them up. Aloft also has a threat meter included, is again very configurable, I can recommend it to all tanks or melee classes, for that matter.
It's a combination of the one I had + an old one of mine.
The Nameplates are going to get replaced soon, I only use em on some occasions so ..
Normally recount is hidden.
I want to use another Rune addon, but it's bugging me (look at it p3lim =()
Anyway, I like it and I'm proud of it.
Main addons:
. Pitbull
. Dominos
. Chinchilla
. LynStats
. AzCastBar
. Satrina's Buff Frames
. TipTac
. Omen
. Recount
.. Some small addons
My UI is comprised of OpenRDX, Omen, Bartender4, GhostPulse2 and Msbt.
OpenRDX because it allows me to filter and resposition so many aspects completely seperately and as I please. It's a mod that I've used for ~3 years so I'm pretty comfortable with it for all my solo/raid layouts.
Self cast longish duration buffs show as icons below my player frame, ie HoW, BS (shows stacks). Proc effects or shorter duration buffs, Blade Barrier, IBF, Rime, trinket procs show above my player frame as colour coded bar cooldowns.
The raid frames at the bottom are built on a custom layout, sorted as 4 windows - ranged, melee, healers and tanks. For this I built an editor where I can add a player name based on a specific role, ie if our pally is Prot, Ret or Holy I enter their name in the coresponding role editor and their position in the raid layout will alter accordingly. I favour this setup as I can move people around easily depending on their spec during raids (planning ahead for dual spec). The raidframes were originally based off Xenios' Kalecgos frames broken down for my ideas and changing the timers for boss debuffs.
Target debuffs are filtered to only show raid essential debuffs. Targets target only shows debuffs for taunt switching etc. Focus frame (which sits above player frame) uses Deathgripping/Chains of Ice mouseover macros for when I'm spark controlling during Malygos P1.
Well, there's a lot ways to go with the DKs UIs or UIs in general, and you can change it as far as you want.
Here's my UI.
The full UI has been designed by me, with Photoshop and then using kgpanels to insert them to the UI. I use X-perl for frames, and Grid to see the hole raid. To move the buttons i've used bartender3 and simpleminimap to change the map config. I was using Cycircled to change the buttons border, but i didnt work fine. For buffs Simple buffs bars and titan for the upper bar.
It's quite clean as I like, I like seeing all since im tank! xD So, any questions, ill be glad to answer.
Hi! I could upload it, but I wont. Im sorry m8, but the painting its exclusive. I'll tell you what I did and which addons I used, and you can findout yourself!
-For Buttons Bartender4.
-Xperl for frames and Grid for raid frames.
-Simple buffs bars for (obviously) buffs.
-Simple minimap and detached minibuttons for map and gadgets.
-TitanBar for the upper bar.
-For casting and debuff on the target Quartz.
-Prat3 for Chattext.
-SCT and SCTD for combat text.
And the most important, Kgpanels. This addon creates a panel that lets you put any screen at this panel. Then you just have to create an image (I did it with photoshop) and configure it for Kgpanels. That's all!
(Also, I've got DBM, Omen and other raiding addons, but this is more personal for eachone of us i think! :] )
Anyway in youtube there's a tutorial about using kgpanels and if you google a little there's a lot of good tutorials!
